I know that E3 has been all that much more hype than actual gaming these past 2 to 3 years, but attending is kinda like one of those things you hope to actually do once in your life. Like taking the orient express.

hurray! less money wasted on those glitzy marketing fellas & pointless hype. spend more on development & polishing games! better compensation for developers & testers! good games start selling well cos word of mouth! too bad the real world don't function that way.....

uhm... no?

even without E3 most game companies still have their own smaller expo's. and ppl like sony and nintendo still have TGS to exhibit.

and then there are "small" independent shows like PAX that are rising to the just about the scale of the big time show.

From IGN.com

QUOTE
According to the report, Entertainment Software Association president Doug Lowenstein is expected to announce within the next 48 hours that E3 in its current form has effectively ceased to exist. The report suggests that the catalyst for this radical departure appears to be a decision by the large exhibitors -- typically videogame publishers -- that the significant costs involved in an E3 presence were simply not yielding an expected return on investment in terms of media coverage. As an alternative, the exhibitors have suggested a series of smaller, company-focused events as a better use of resources.

Currently, the E3 2007 website is still active and has the dates for the Expo still intact, but if this report does turn out to be accurate, the event could very well be E3 in name only.

I think it is a good move. Spending less money on things that doesn't really matter.

The flashy show is finally ending and money can be better put into making better games.

I think E3 as an expo will continue to exist, just dont expect the fireworks. Which is not that bad, we are there to see the games, not some overglorified show.

When I first got into teh internets with relation to gaming, I was really into E3. I would read developer interviews, previews and some teasers (Was on dial-up, so sue me)

For the last few years, when I hear E3, all I care about is "Ooo, new videos to download" because that's all it is mostly. Its all about the videos and teasers nowadays... Even when reading the previews and interviews, its always about some "running demo" or "video presentation", so I just stopped reading them and started watching more.

Nice to see that they're limiting it to ppl in the biz at least now and not every Tom, Dick and Harry.

E3 NOT cancelled..just changed

E3 as we all know and loved it is gone...but a new, improved Next Gen E3 is coming next year.

QUOTE
The Entertainment Software Assocation, which hosts E3 each year, announced today that going forward the Expo will be an "intimate event" rather than a massive trade show, hosting press events and small meetings with media, retailers, and developers. According to Electronic Arts, the redesigned E3 will now take place in July.

the way i see it, even with the trade show gala going on, you didnt really see much of small and medium developers because of all the shiny giant sony, microsoft, nintendo, ea, ubisoft booths.
