I'm doing a PHP/MySQL-based school content management system project including the student learning system. Target audience is the ministry of education administrator, school administrator, teachers, parents and students. How do you guys rate the price for such project? I am thinking not greater than RM2000. What do you guys think?

It depands on what is inside the Learning Management System. (LMS) What kind of module/ what functions are in there. It really depands on what is inside to get the price. Hope you can elabrote more.

what's a Learning Management System anyway..? huh.gif

if your system is good, you can sell packages to government sectors at maybe even RM2000-5000 per package under a license that's renewed every year for support and free upgrades..etc.

i hope you're doing real user testing on the target audience especially feedback on friendliness and how they get along with your system. smile.gif

Licensing my pakcage? I don't understand but it sound privacy, protected and limited. What advantage do I get and how do I do this license thingy. The project is forwarded to me from a very close friend from ministry of education. Their department is trying to implement such system into every school if and only if the project meet what they want and of course I will be dealing with real user. It's an experimental project. I will give you tries if you intereseted become beta tester later. smile.gif

Sounds interesting and alot of requirements to fulfill depending on the list of things they're planning to do with the LMS. From reading the Wikipedia definition, I take it you're going to use an Open Source project available?

Anyway, a project of this scale (Wikipedia said large scale) it can cost anywhere between RM5000-RM10000+ depending on their list of requirements and if you're building everything from scratch.

don't forget, you might need to provide documentation, training or support later as well if the LMS goes through any troubles.

as for licensing, well, if the whole software is built from ground up then you could approach an Intellectual Property lawyer for consultation and cost of licensing your software.

cheers.

I supervised a building of Learning Management System LMS before (my previous job) in private sector for local universities. There is few programmers and and grapich artist. Well from my experienced it really depands your modules. How much is the government willing to pay? and read thru the contract. I think the government will want the rights from you as companies do. A good LMS with video conferencing and interactive is not easy to developed and it normally takes a team. We charge quite alot (annual fee) for students using it. biggrin.gif Maybe you can show us the structure and which part you are develping.

I don't think I have anything to show right now but when the good time comes, I get back to this thread again. I think I can do this alone. Besides, it's not like building rocket-science thingy. There will be no sophisticated features. smile.gif

Well to you it might me not a rocket science thingy. But you need to sell it as a rocket science thingy in order for people to pay more. Its all about marketing. Seen lots of good products failed because they do not know how to sell. For example windows is full of flaws but everyone is using. marketing marketing. Sometimes with even a sub-graded products you can as for premium price and people are willing to pay. tongue.gif

user posted image .mmm.. you are right. Then I need someone that's good in marketing since I don't have any clue when come to this kind of thing. It sad when good quality product ended like that. It's like an insult to the product creator.
