I mean just look in case it is the CPU heatspreader causing you headaches......there are some C2Ds which have concave heatspreaders and have been reported in other forums.

I don't think the shops are gonna give a hoot about concave IHS'es... it's like you go to the shop and say Boss...my IHS is concave...he'll probably say: WTF?? Can jalan or not?... I don't think he's gonna give a damn about the abnormally high temperatures at 3+ Ghz lor.

Just use your eyes and look at the chip.  One way to test is to take a ruler and put it 90 perpendicular to it.  If looked from the side, there should be no gaps between the IHS and the ruler.  If you see in the midde there is a gap then your IHS is concave.

sigh. i just can't get past the 450. it's weird as i'm using 1g x 2 D9GMH. really heartbroken. once i set my 6300 to 450 on ds4, it just won't boot even into bios. stuck there with fan runnig. any sifu can guide me?

thanks for the attention. ok, i'm using e6300, ds4, mushkin xp2-6400 4-4-3-10. running 400, 1.9 vdimm (i assume +0.1v on DS4 = 1.9v) 4-4-3-10 passed 7 hours prime orthos.

then i try to push it higher, wanted to hit ddr900. i set 450, 2.0/2.1 vdimn fail too boot. timing i tested 4-4-3-10, 4-4-4-12, 5-5-5-15 all the same. vcore i tested fron 1.35 to 1.4. everyhing failed. and the mhp (not quite sure) tried +0.1v/+0.2v failed too. tried fsb voltage +0.1 too.

EIST and C1E all off. once i set the setting and safe it then restart, pc just stuck there. but fan running. i hope it's quite a clear picture.

PS: newbie oc-er actually. currently highest hit 440 but with error in orthos. hrmm... anyone want to help me test my ram. i'm really heartbroken invest on this ram when the performance is just like value ram, maybe even teruk.

The E6300 will smoke that P4 of yours at its stock speeds.  Definitely a good buy, but price wise you have to check around.
