***Paste from other topic:***

I am currently in munich and was wondering:

To all you rockers out there: Would you attend a concert (old shcool 70s 80s rock, blues, psychadelic, gothic, funk, soul) although u wont understand a single word their saying? Is the text important when you guys listen to todays pop/rock songs?

I was just wondering if a german band (i assume maybe 90% malaysians don't know german?) would get an audience if they were to tour malaysia. Don't have to make it big or anything, just gather maybe a mediocre fan base, maybe earn some extra money.

What are your opinions? Just be direct. Will post some samples too after getting the green light from the composer.

***Thanks alot for taking the survey***

EDIT: Oh just remembered that we already have a midi sample on the net here. It's in german but just scroll down and u will see the song title "Komm heraus aus deinem Schneckenhaus". Right of the song title u can click the loudspeaker logo and listen to a short free sample of all the 3 songs listed there. Or you can download the first song ("Komm heraus aus deinem Schneckenhaus") for free. Let me know what u guys think. Thanks again!

i'll DL your song shortly.
just to participate : i'm french and I don't understand a word of most of the english songs ! Actually, I don't even try to understand them, it would require to much focus...

So most of the time I simply enjoy the music itself, and not the words smile.gif In france, nobody understands the english songs, yet everybody listens to them : it's about 75% of the main radio-channels contents.

i dl the song. i've no idea what kind of song is that laugh.gif frankly i'm not a fan of this one... your bass sounds good though ! but if i can comment :
- keybords.. a bit too much, especially while the singer is singing.
- cymbals... bright and loud !
- singer... the recording is weird. Reverb heavy + Very "in your face". Hard to describe, but it doesn't feel natural.

what, you didn't ask for my comment ? laugh.gif sorry then... can't help it .. the worst musicians (= me) are always the ones that love to critic other people work wink.gif

Yes I would listen to a foreign language band even though I don't understand the language...used to listen to J-Rock here (High and Mighty Color specifically).

Aw not Rammstein (just assuming)?

only germans can come up with the corniest lyrics and make it fit into a rock song cos of its language.

anyway, if the band you're planning on bringing is the said 'das tribunal'.
its going to be very hard.

and is that a drum machine?

thanks for tte comments.

The sample is the pre production version. Everything is midi. The drums and guitar are played live, but looped for the entire song. Equipment are not the best in the world, it is a home private studio after all.

Ermm, ya i agree that this song is really heavy rammstein style. I'm not a fan of it myself. But it was the only free sample laugh.gif laugh.gif . We do also have some more slow rock like 70s 80s style (hammond stuff and dave gilmour soloing stuff). i can't really compare since i don't really know many 70s 80s rock bands. Also some funky stuff, james brown soul stuff, basically we're kind off all over the place without a fixed direction. I don't know if that's a good or bad thing by the way...

And yea, german texts are the corniest ever. It takes a lot of getting used to. 100 points for Everdying laugh.gif .

The band i am intending to bring over is not this Tribunal thingy, but another one. It's complicated and long story, but Das Tribunal has somehow morphed into another band. So we use some of the songs from this Tribunal project since the composer is the same guy. So no copyright problems.

Further comments would be appreciated. Thanks

ok.
firstly, whats your target audience?
the german community?
kutu masyarakat? mat rempits?
underground scene?

secondly, you will not make any money to cover anything.

if you wanna try to cover back anything, bring lots of cds and tshirts obviously.
but then again, whats your target market?

thats a very good question. I have to say i dont know really. Because we are doing music in almost every direction. There are even some jazz instrumental pieces. So I cant really say what or who we are targeting.

As for covering costs, there are no big plans at the moment. The band is still young and i doubt anything will happen for the next half year at least. It's just an idea i had and was wondering if it would work.

But if it would work, i was thinking about starting off at music festivals for example the sure heboh by tv3 or similar stuff like that. Then after that when people know about the band, then we may have individual concerts and stuff like that.

Ah well, at the moment it's still an idea and will remain so for some time.

I love german band alot, i enjoy listen their fxxking great music haha.... eventhough i dont understand them, if the genre is right i definitely will go for it... but it also depends on the ticket price. The band i love is Rammstein, Haggard, Lacrimosa, Leaves Eyes, Xandria and also other ... european metal rox...

Problem is when u organize it big, will the government support u.. some extremist will say this will bring back influence, for them music is evil.

Umm as i said before, we don't have a fixed style or genre. But most of the songs have one thing in common which is ....about how politicians screw up everything (i don't want to go deeper into that). Which is why my biggest problem is our dear narrow minded government. I might get hanged for it laugh.gif .

Anyway....thanks for the comments. Keep them coming. I appreciate all negative and positive.

heres my view of songs with messages in them.

its still a song, so make it enjoyable somehow.
ie. creating a certain mood, making it memorable etc.

i dont see a point in reading lyrics if the song sux.
like that i rather go buy a book.

im not so worried about that part. It's because of our super sensitive censorship board. I don't know if the message will get banned or not.

I am here for the music.

But lyrics make good music.

Regardless, good music needs no lyrics.

well tamil is foreign to me. But if you understood it it wont be foreign anymore would it. But then again, there are many tamil speakers in malaysia, so i guess tamil artists will have quite a big audience already. How about something european? French, italian and stuff like that. How do you think the success rate will be like (for any genre...doesn't really matter)?

the government is very sensitive to the words "metal". so other shud be fine i think, but i doubt they will have big audience. I think most of the european music lover over here only listen to metal, thatz my opinion.
