if its going to be 3 piece final print out work...
and if you can get it done by 2 full day work
the price of RM 550 should be reasonable for a freelancer.
One thing about freelancer charges, it should be cheaper than those professional with companies attached.
first, your overhead charges are lower, you only spend your time on the PC plus some electricity bills...
and if you are only going to just burn on the CD to pass the final works to him, you only had additional RM 1 or less for the CD cost...
unless, you need to print them out for him, then you have to add those cost for the papers and inks....
probably, its time you should come up with a graph...
your time - how much time u spend on working on that thing = ur pay
cost involves - what things you used that involves in getting the final work done
that should helps you give better quotation.
and lastly,
even if he is related to you. But if your price is good and reliable,
think that there would be more contacts coming your way = more $$$
words spreads by mouth.
Imagine your uncle having some mamak session with his friends, and his friends tells him about some works he needs drawing done. And then they your uncle tells him how much u charge. And you were way cheaper than the one he is getting from some one else...
then, voila ! you got a new contact coming your way...
thats how business grow...

@estuko: u have to bear in mind that professional charged is only viable if you have a reputable company, take blame for design error and runs the design on LEGITIMATE autoCAD copy (not crack, ehem ehem or student version punya)
trivia: AutoCAD LT (only 2D) costs rm 1,500+
AutoCAD full version (3d capable) = upwards of 10k for one license
now, that explains why professional fee is expensive

I think if you're still a student, use mclelun's advice.
Even if you're freelancing, use mclelun's advice as well unless you're sure of how much you want to charge.
My advice is that your uncle's friend seems to be a really close to your uncle so he treats you especially nice and tries to teach you the ropes of dealing. To be fair to him, charge RM5-10 per hour and then later this is how you calculate your time.
If your work is done in half an hour, charge for 1 hour and later small little changes you don't have to charge him. If you've been working 6 hours and 10 minutes then don't charge him 7 hours but 6 hours only. If he needs small changes, do it because you're a pro and shouldn't take long. However, if you feel that it's changes you'll be spending at least half an hour on then let him know you'll need to charge him an extra hour.
Being a freelancer or taking on open projects is risky in terms of changes if clients only pay a one sum fee because they might just use it to their advantage. It's a Malaysian culture thing and sometimes they themselves don't realize anymore.
Hope that helps.
Cheers.
