you mean asus rtn12hp? good choice. just check yr wifi channel is not crowded by neighbors if they are on unifi too.

unless yr house is cluttered with lots of steel or iron bars, unifi30 will should do for normal streaming jobs, incl hd.

play around with the antennae positioning to get optimal.

the signal is the form of a "bubble" - get the best shaped bubble for what u want - sphere or flattened bubble, orientation, etc.

i hv the opposite - router downstairs, one q5ii upstairs wifi - good.

downstairs with ethernet, the q16 does even better.

popcorntime.io, the original is dead.

but... popcorntime.se, a fork which has a better version for androids, is well and alive.

these apps do come and go, a matter of 3 months or 3 years!

as long as there is a couple of good ones, it's good enough for me.

at this time, i am primarily using:

1. hitv
2. popcorntime.se
3. mobdro
4. cloudtv
5. kodi

for those on unifi with hypptv, do explore hypptv if u haven't.

there are several new hd channels now incl red hbo, dreamworks hd, bbc earth hd.

hypptv is a good low cost iptv compliment to what u can get by streaming free on android.

once upon a time, there was a mother of all addons in xbmc called mashup.

it was good, while it lasted.

one day, the owner decided to call it quits due to many reasons incl legal, shut it down.

from the ashes of mashup, phoenix arose in kodi.

took a while for it to come up but it is good now.

it's never guaranteed, so enjoy it while it lasts!

just a word for those having q16 and looking for a new tv.

i just bought a sharp 4k uhd tv.

after 2 days, here's what i will say:

.. the q16 and the original hdmi cable can handle 4k material, no problem.

.. on a 4k tv, 1080p and bdmv material playback comes up a few notches superior than an lcd - more colors, much more detail, like watching new.

.. 1080i streams from hypptv (and astro, i guess) - very good.

.. online streaming - even chinese hd streams in puding and hitv become superb, impressive!

.. 720p streams are just ok.

.. sd streams or playback come out poor - so poor i don't watch anymore.



so, if you are using an old lcd, time to upgrade. with the q16, go for 4k UHDTV!

it's been 1 year of q16 for me - it's been a great experience for me - loads of good entertainment, works good with 4k videos, hd audio.

.. easy to register and get working
.. easy to use
.. smooth, no buffering
.. eng and other subs


.. limited selection
.. not all tv episodes are as up-to-date as u like
.. at best 720p (for ultra hd option), close to hypptv's 1080i

4K UHDTV (2160p) is 3840 pixels wide by 2160 pixels tall (8.29 megapixels), which is four times as many pixels as 1920x1080 (2.07 megapixels)

my experience with Q16 playback 4k material:

there are many video output settings in Q16, the highest two are 2160p 24hz (or fps) and 2160p 30hz.

if your TV is full hd and not 4k, Q16 will detect it, will not u allow to set higher than 1080p 60hz.

if yr TV is 4K, it will allow u to set any of the available settings.

note the HDMI cable Q16->TV must also be 4K compliant.

the source, i.e file for playback - most 4k videos at this time are uhd 4k 24fps or 30fps, so no problem for Q16.

there are some uhd 4k 60fps - these will not play well on Q16.

such videos are rare and very few external devices can handle 4k 60 fps at this time.

but the latest higher end 4k tv's can play with direct usb.



i have played a few 4k movies with Q16 on my 4K tv.

just use the native player, i.e. with file manager or media center.

kodi can handle too but apps like es file explorer, mx and vlc cannot.

of course, you must also have:

.. 4k TV
.. all hdmi cables must be 4K compliant.

the original hdmi cable that came with the Q16 is 4K compliant.

just a reminder on imgotv or mango tv.

there should be an auto update to version 4.7.17.

update is auto for q16, q5ii, not sure for h8.

this version is good.

you get good stuff, incl "vip - free", in 720p hd.
