I received a call from this lady a few days ago. She wanted to know how much will it cost to hire a private nurse. So I give her the usual rates, RM90/8 hours etc etc.

She asks me a lot of questions in regards to the nurses and process of hiring. I provide necessary information and I ask her for the patient's details.
She says that she will get back to me after checking with other family members.

Yesterday I received a Whatsapp message saying that they have decided to send their mother to an Old Folks Home.  sad.gif
I was really speechless.

Because I always thought that if anyone resorts to sending their parents away, it is because they did not know that they have the option to keep the parents at home and hire nurse to come to the house instead.

Everyone is busy working, I understand that. But I am working too. And despite that, I can never imagine sending my mother to a nursing home away from her family. Like what the hell?
You can spend the same amount, in fact lesser amount to keep your mother at home with her family but you want to send her to a nursing home??  vmad.gif

I really felt sorry for the poor old lady who had no say whatsoever in her own life.

fren it is not easy...if i am old and senile, i would want my kids to send me to a home..instead of burdening them. of course a good home lah.

people who gone senile, they sit there like zombies, stop talking...they stop recognising you, they don't even know if they accidentaly pangsai...they have to be mouth fed...bathed, clothed, change dipers...

its sad truth but it is really hard work for the caregiver family. i know some people had to quit their jobs to take care of their parents full time. but usually these people are singles who don't have family. what about those with job and families?

Which is why you can pay the same amount and keep your parents at home! If you are working, someone else will be there to care for your parents.
In fact, when you hire someone to your house, you can even keep an eye on how they are taking care of your parents.

In a home, if one messed-up staff is force feeding your dad because he is eating too slowly, who is going to stop that f'd up person?
Do they even have enough staff to care for everyone?
