Hello guys, i have some questions that i need to ask from the sifu-sifu here.

I got a job offer from company A and it is going to apply for a pass for me soon once i am done with all the paperwork. Company B has just contacted me for a final round interview next week (and i think i will pass this final interview). My question is, if i decide to join company B, can i ask company A to revoke my pass application? Will the switching reflect anything bad in the Manpower records of me and make my pass application harder to get approved?

I am a fresh graduate from an overseas university with no working experience. Company A offers me SGD3000/month with no other extra allowances. How good is this offer?

Thank you very much for your help smile.gif

It is reasonable lah. Most employers in SG think local u > overseas u. Unless oxbridge/ivy league/or some US/UK top 25 schools. If you're from those schools then clearly they're underpaying you.

Thank you for your reply. I am still confused about the pass application. If i let company A to apply a working pass for me first and then is it possible to ask them to revoke my application if company B decides to take me in?

Finally, an alternative to go Ipoh. Four times weekly services to be launched between JB-Ipoh. Timing is not perfect, but should put downward pressure on SG-Ipoh ticket price.

Commencing 15 Sep 2014 - 25 Oct 2014
Johor Bahru - Ipoh Route  Day  Flight No  Departure  Arrival  Fly Time
Johor Bahru - Ipoh  Mon, Wed, Fri & Sun  FY2252  10:20  11:45  1:25

Thanks for your reply again Alaskan bunny. I decided to go with company A after taking into account of future job prospect.

I have another question. Can someone help me out? My company is applying for a pass for me and the official website says it is going to take 5 weeks. However, is 5 weeks really what it takes or will it be maybe 3-4 weeks? This is just so i can plan for anything-Singapore.

thanks thanks !!! wow you are right. My company submitted my application on Monday and today they informed me that my pass is approved and so the next thing is to do is just medical check up. Yayyyyyy!!

i am really really really really excited about this Singapore opportunity. YAAAAAAYYYY smile.gif

Now, i will go to Singapore without any pass, do my check up, then get my pass? Do i need to go to the customs to show them my pass after and ask them to clear my 30-day visiting day limit?

so now, it's also time to plan for phone plan and all. Can someone shed some light on which plan is great? I have done some research and it looks like Singtel is the go-to company. I am looking to get a prepaid plan with about 2gb of internet and just so that i can get a discounted phone, prolly an Iphone. Any suggestion? Maybe if i sign up for a family plan, it will be cheaper? I don't want to spend too much on this though, hopefully below $40/month.

Last time while i was shopping some Singtel staff also was handing out flyers with promotion like $49/month for high speed at home internet.. Is it a normal price range for home internet in Singapore?

Sorry if i asked repeated questions. Just am recently active in this thread so am not fully familiarized with the "etiquette" here. Thank you in advance!!

Thanks everyone for your help again. I am so happy to be joining the family smile.gif
Reign226, i will be working in the banking industry
Mules, if Singtel has more expensive packages and not better phone plans, why would anyone want to use it? Sounds like M1 is a better deal.

Hello! can someone suggest me a way to move my stuff to Singapore? I have a lot of luggage. Maybe by KTMB train? Or transport my stuff all the way to Singapore with a car? (the better the cheaper) laugh.gif

from where ? if in KL can contact our vigilante Lester1987. He helped some forumers before. Just maybe share petrol and buy him dinner will do. A friendly guy. I think car is the easiest way. Anything to declare ?

Yes from KL. haha, but no lah don't want to bother people lah!

Alaskan bunny, how did you transport your things by bus? How much stuff did you have?

I will have at least one big sized luggage plus two medium sized bags. I am thinking of going by bus/train, then from golden mile/woodlands take a taxi to my destination in SG. But but but i get headaches when thinking of transporting these big pieces from KL to bus/train then to taxi. Guss this might be the most viable way though?

yay, will be in Singapore in about 3 weeks' time! rclxm9.gif

1) change MYR --> SGD in Malaysia
2) change MYR --> SGD in Singapore

Also any recommendation as to which money changer gives better rates?

hello! my employer asked me to open an account with either DBS or POSB. I have got an E Pass. I heard that there is a minimum $1000 needed in the account to avoid penalty. Does the same rule apply to E Pass holders?

I cannot fork out $1000 in such a short time. I was thinking, if the penalty is $2/month, i can give them that and when my salary comes in then my balance from then on will be >1000 and so i don't have to pay the $2 penalty anymore. Thoughts?

Well here's my experience...
I started working last month so no salary for me yet but when i go to open my POSB account around mid of the month, they didn't even ask a single cent to open that account (I'm EP holder btw)...

and the officer told me that the condition of having 1k in account will only applies starting this month...
no corporate relation or whatsoever as my company uses cheque...

hope it helps  smile.gif

wow, bad news for me then! i don't have 1k, so i think i will let them "telan" $2 first.

Hi all, we can get tax reduction if we buy a laptop? I am thinking of buying one, but was planning to buy one in Malaysia since it's cheaper there. If i do it in Malaysia, am i still eligible for tax deduction?
Thanks in advance!
