What's the gahmen doing, waste so much tax promote here promote there, got sai at home don't want clean. To the guy who want come here live one, these are the sai locals facing.

QUOTE(bleo @ Nov 6 2014, 06:08 PM)
3)  My last pay was approaching 5 figures, but when I browse accounting positions that are similar, I am shocked at the low pay scale, even though "MNC" it is all SGD3000 - 4500???  I don't think I have high expectations, just expecting around $6K to start off, get a feel, proof myself to the boss, then worry about better pay later on.
*
MNCs are not multi national charities. They setup companies in other countries with their profit in mind, countries where cheap resources are available. 4k SGD and 10k RM seems equivalent. Why pay a SG worker 6k SGD for the same thing when they can get one in for 3+k SGD in MY? Switch the operation to MY better. Only charities would consider the higher living cost and make you happy by paying better.

Take a look at MOM's salary statistic for a happier life so you don't feel that you are underpaid.

Best investment in Singapore would be Hong Bao Toto. Invest 50 cents, possible return of 10 million.

QUOTE(AIAF @ Nov 11 2014, 11:20 AM)
Any way around any of these at all?

1) Rent - 600$ - 800$ (looking at single room if possible) Times 2.5 for deposit and agent fee. Stay with someone I know if possible.
2) Transport - 100$ No way around this I think.
3) Food - 300$  Eat less? lol.
4) Bank account minimum deposit - 1000$ Need professional advise on this.
FYI no I don't have a job secured yet. But I'm looking at relocating next year, so will have to manage my RM savings. Just traveled a bit lately so savings kinda low for now.
*
Some suggestions. I came here as a student so I did all these to survive on my 3600 per year scholarship allowance. That is 450 per month minus away the 4 months holiday in Malaysia.

1) Could get a free rental by sharing the same bed if you know what I mean blush.gif . Otherwise, survey harder for cheaper rent.

2) Depends on your location, if you find your accommodation within walking distance from your office then . Most area are self-sufficient within walking distance now. You can survive by walking to the surrounding shops for all your daily needs.

3) The key thing is to cook it yourself. Pack a personal rice cooker from home. 150-200 bucks can last you 1 month, I still use my personal cooker for lunch and dinner if my hubby go overseas visiting small 3. Fresh meat, fresh vegetable and occasionally small fish, steam it together with the rice. Stock up dry food if your landlord don't allow cooking hence no fridge for meat and vegetable, and cook your meal inside your room with the small cooker. Bread with butter and some ham, home made coffee for breakfast. Adjust accordingly with your budget, I knew people doing 100 per month for food but they cook in bulk among friends and share the cost.

4) Open your account in the beginning, withdraw all off it the next minute and use it to pay for your food/deposit/rent. Pay 2 dollar for admin fee is ok la. Bank people work very hard to maintain your account one leh.

Chap fan with drink also can below $10 a day la... Just see whether you want to dine in those food court only mah biggrin.gif Even in Orchard area I also think is possible. Just that everyday have to just choose between like 4~5 food courts. Other places too expensive biggrin.gif

$10 also can one day two $5 McD meals biggrin.gif

Everyday McChicken/McChicken with Cheese/Double Cheese Burger/Fillet-o-fish or other bigger burgers ala carte biggrin.gif

Hehe its ok. You have to start somewhere right. Not everyone is so lucky to start with 3 restaurant food per day. Dining in atas place don't guarantee gutter-oil-free food too. Just take care your health eating those fast food if you don't want to sponsor the doctor's mercs when you are old. Get some fruits or something.

can PR holder leave Singapore for long period of time but still maintain their PR? What is the maximum period?

My parents and siblings have been "relocated" back to Malaysia for more than 10 years now. REP renewal no problem. They maintain a SG income and pay taxes to support the country.

I always think the rich here stay in high rise condo with gym and pools, the poor stay in small house in some secluded place you can hardly see people around when I came here. So envy people in condo that time haha. We were poor and brought up thinking we are still poor, if not become ah tiong rich 2nd gen butt hole liao. Sometime I see bangala and lower class got looked down, I always feel the dejavu during early childhood.

Wow... My cousin is going to work here, in medical field (but not doctor/nurse, I also not so sure what position).

Seriously... In medical field, expat package is really common?

Fresh grad, monthly basic is already high enough. Then that's not all... Housing allowance, 600 each month. Then before start working, most expenses can be claimed too like hotel, flight ticket, relocation etc. Then working on shift got shift allowance lagi.

doh.gif Same fresh grad but salary more than 40% higher than mine. doh.gif doh.gif *I jelly*

Maybe I made wrong decision and went into the wrong field since the first day of my uni cry.gif

People here are rich, and most of all, kiasi.

Only foreigners have that allowance from the ministry. My sis work as registrar with PR, get nothing. Training is world class according to her, but pay little, end up go back home serve Jabatan Kesihatan after got the degree.

is ok to suffer as a registrar, when she becomes a consultant the salary can explode (7 digit annual salary for sure, if sick of working for people can open own consulting company and get more money). Also can work anywhere in the world.

My sister & her husband (both anesthetic consultants) at Australia told me SG government want them to settle down here give them 1-2 years (each) free accomodation. Salary package as pretty good, but lower compared to Australia. They might come over to do their fellowship here but still deciding between here and UK.

The big 4 professionals that make money in SG, doctor, dentist, lawyer and "fill in the blank".

She went back to Malaysia, don't know what post now but got a room in gahmen's hospital, patients' appreciating face better than money in bank. Can negotiate for more if they want. MOH very rich. Ask them go to UK, much bigger island.

No doubts bankers make the most. Hell even the at the UK people are comparing how many prime minister compared to their bonus package.

no lar even at msia, the beauty of being a doc is no matter where in the world as long as you are consultant can make huge bucks. The only problem is to get that title need to eat, sleep, f*ck,shit with the books for years depending on specialty. Not to mention you need to work and study the same time. She next time can open own consulting company charge hospital big money. My friends dad have a huge mansion, a ferrari, a lambo and bought his doctor son a gradaute present of BMW back at malaysia. He is one of the heart surgoen consultant at Gleneagles hospital.

UK is just for fun to travel around Europe. But she really miss her friends here in SG. Work life balance is pretty much the same in SG as compared to Australia. Consultants have to take the shits and be sure to clean them up before they get to go home without OT in the private sector.

Most consultants in Australia do the half private and half public work, to maximise the income and get pension from the government. Not sure of that is possible in SG. My sis and hubby plans to open thier own company as well but just dont really know where yet, as for now  need to serve the community in another country to contribute back.

Banking and finance are not professionals, we get away so easy if we make mistakes. Millions lose their jobs, parents can't afford food for their kids, but for us, gahmen still come bail us out with truck lots of public money. Doctors do that once to patients, SMC come in, hang license and go Changi prison already. I still think most doctors are not in for the money, those corporate running the hospitals are. When my sis was a registrar, she earn much less, and work much more, but happier than me.

But the problem is... Engineers don't usually get OT.

and... When a project is running, project team all station at site, boss only come supervise like twice a week.

So normally although 8.30 work, 8.45~9 only reach. Usually 6~7 leave site. Only a couple of days when some activities requiring supervision is going on, need stay back till maybe midnight. Confirm everything going alright then can cabut. Take taxi claim company biggrin.gif But no OT pay la sad.gif

Haven't feel stress yet. Even less stress compared to study time doh.gif

Guys, what's your working hours average, per week, regardless of in or out of office.

Do you spare yourself some time for own leisure / work out time/ family time , in spite of the whole world is chasing you for their part to be done?

I think this probably a million dollars question.
*
2 cents question. You just have to finish your tasks at your working hours. No more, no less. My contract is 35 hours per week, including 2 hours lunch break per day tongue.gif , I go home on time at 5. If I flying home on Friday morning, I stay back until 6 the other days in that week to offset my unofficial leave and get things done before I leave. My family time and personal time after working hours are very expensive, my boss can't afford to pay me so no OT for me.

Hey recently a few of my friends who accepted job promotion transfers by their multinational companies from Malaysia to Singapore got rejected by MOM. Reason being no degree.

Then those with degree, still got their transfers WIP because Ministry of Manpower still pondering over their applications.

So if we apply directly to employer, we won't be subjected to Ministry of Manpower scrutiny right?
*
MOM will tell you the reason of their rejection? I thought always the "we are not even sorry for a bit, after flipping through your application for 1 sec, we decided to reject you for undisclosed reason"?

Dear All,

I need some advise from yours.I have job offer from Singapore company, I will based in K.L. But, I will have training in Singapore for 3 to 6  months.  I just want to ask :-

1) Is the company help me to apply the training Employment Pass?
2) My salary is paying in MYR, do I need to declare the Income Tax in Singapore?
*
Before that 2 questions, you need to ask you are employed under which company? The Singapore company may register a Malaysia company and you are paid under the MY one. Then answers to your 2 question are "no", and vice versa. Since you are paid in RM... should be under their MY's payroll.

Another few pending application to be reviewed. Been 3 months already. Looks like Singapore discourage people from getting transfer by MNC to Spore office to get job unless that person is an Ang Moh.

MOM tell you in letter or conversation because rejection because of no degree? Or you just guess and blame father blame mother because they don't approve?

QUOTE(studyboy @ Dec 5 2014, 02:21 AM)
Hi all,

What is this Letter of Intent thingy when it comes to renting? I don't remember writing this when I was looking for a room early this year. Have you guys written something like this before?

Edit: In addition, did you guys pay your deposit/ rent by cash, bank transfer or cheque? Apparently the latter is preferred as it can constitute as proof of payment (As suggested by HDB board lol)?

Next, say if I found a place to rent without engaging an agent, who is responsible to get the Tenancy Agreement stamped? I know I am to pay the fees though.

I ask for every one's goodwill to bear with my silly questions for a while! I had it really easy the first time round (renting matters) and was pretty fortunate that everything went smoothly! My previous landlady handled everything which I initially took to be the norm!  blush.gif
*
Letter of Intent not commonly used in room or unit renting. That is for larger scale rental say the whole floor in an office block or properties purchases. For unit or room rental, put down deposit then done deal already.

First deposit mostly by cash, or cheque if the properties are rented by companies for their staff. Your agent will give you a receipt, that should be sufficient. Future rental some prefer internet banking for records and minimum effort for rental income.

The person who want the agreement to be stamped pay the money. Normally agreement is not stamped even with agents, no?
