Hmm, coil whine caused by too high frame rate? Had some on my own 280x too, usually just happens when game just startup, not too annoying.
Ah, forced Vsync on and no more sound

QUOTE(Unseen83 @ Jun 21 2014, 06:29 AM) I painted my tri-X to light grey (original orange), I think it looks way better But of course that's not on the GPU anymore. Aftermarket monster cooler FTW. I do feel the original color is rather sux. |

QUOTE(commanderz @ Jul 4 2014, 11:10 PM) anything here i need to set or fix? Noticed several things:update: ok after testing on MSI Kombustor 3.0....it seem when my card go over 92-95 temp it just shut down the whole PC......maybe is PWS faulty ? 1, fan always around 25%? seems really low. 2, core under 1GHz but voltage almost 1.3v? sounds high to me. Don't hit that thing so hard... The way to do undervolt is decrease little by little and test for stability...
I do suspect there something wrong with the cooler though, as I see other people don't got such hot even on much higher settings. Try manual fan speed see how much it helps, 25% sounds like just ~500rpm. |

QUOTE(commanderz @ Jul 5 2014, 07:10 PM) Update : it seem i need to Manual set the fan speed to 40 -47% to prevent overhearting shut down....but when gaming still 94 C temp.....now feel regret from ATI jump to nvidia .... Best just send back to shop for exchange. Your card doesn't looks normal at all Screenshots / reviews around all maintain decent 70c+- even pushing near 1.35v. I will guess is the thermal paste not properly applied. Don't underestimate that little "thing"... This post has been edited by M1X: Jul 5 2014, 09:51 PM |

QUOTE(commanderz @ Jul 5 2014, 09:57 PM) really? but i saw few review also say when gaming it will go over 90 C? here the link that is reference AMD card, of course. http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/radeo...chmarks,11.html OK looking at your clock speed, you're using the reference version, I thought is Direct CU II. /ninja edited 999 times... QUOTE(commanderz @ Jul 5 2014, 10:33 PM) that reference AMD cooler is, well, trash.the GPU will be maintained 90c~95c, where the performance will start to get throttled (decreased) to maintain that temperature. despite AMD claims that is perfectly normal, but to be honest - that is insanely hot. up to you, if you're comfortable to let it run at 90c... as long as you keep the fan speed up to prevent it from overheating. otherwise do something about it - underclock, undervolt, change to aftermarket cooler, or swap to factory cooler version altogether. the voltage shown on GPUz is rather normal. Looks like that Asus software reporting false number again or something.
enable voltage control in MSI Afterburner option menu. you can try down it to 900Mhz core clock & then lower voltage 0.1v at a time to test for stability. don't save that few ringgit and skimp on cooling, especially on high end components. cooling is a serious business... found this nice line: QUOTE Its reference cooler shouldn't be considered reference at all. It's more of a torture device for an otherwise very capable graphics processor. sos: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/r9-290...e-290,3671.html This post has been edited by M1X: Jul 6 2014, 10:09 AM |

I am wondering if it wise to run a pair of R9 280x on my old Sandy Bridge P67 mobo... Asus P8P67LE to be precise.
PCIe x16 + x4 mode. Is worrying a single R9 280x not having enough juice for coming games like AC:Unity / Witcher 3... |

QUOTE(Acid_RuleZz @ Jul 31 2014, 11:27 PM) It is good but i think you still need to buy heatsinks for the VRM and VRAM since the cooler didn't cover it. If i'm not mistaken, M1X using it. it does comes with all the small heatsinks you require. but their adhesive sucks, might want to use a little of glue or use your own double tape to make it hold better.minimum 4 slots of expansion space required. |

QUOTE(S4PH @ Aug 1 2014, 08:49 AM) Yup i read it takes 4 slots for me no issues as my casing is corsair 500r nothing under my gpu and not planning to cfx also, so how is the temps is it worth the money spent? Result of overclocked R9 280x:https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...post&p=69169603 I don't really run that speed daily of course, just lightly overclocked 1100 core @ 1.05v, 1500 memory. my room temperature is ~30c non aircond, gpu idle around 35c I think. currently playing an old MMO @ 41c, pushing standard 3D games may still stays around 55c to 60c depends on the game's stress. the best part is, it's way quieter than factory coolers - after all you choose your own fans. currently I'm using a pair of freaking old Coolermaster 120mm fans wired to a fan controller running ~1000rpm. even at max ~1800rpm still pretty quite, not even as noisy as factory's 40% speed... QUOTE(llk @ Aug 1 2014, 01:17 PM) I dont think u can use the power connector on the gpu for connecting the after market fan, normally has to connect directly to PSU or mobo fan connector or fan speed controller. yea they mostly use custom smaller pins. best not to mod them in case one day want to install back for warrenty or something.can just connect to mobo's fan header, and use the mobo software to control fan speed. Not sure about other brands but Asus AI Suite have it. This post has been edited by M1X: Aug 1 2014, 03:53 PM |
