got ppl offering me 1 month old 290 tri-x for about the price of a 280x. which i think it's a good deal. but wondering if i should wait for the rumored R3xx which will be around end of this year/early next.

currently using gtx460 which is years ago (damn EVGA card just wont die), on a 32 inch 1920x1080p TV.

Tonga coming in a few more months. The spec doesn't add up though, look like a replacement for 270s rather than 280s.

QUOTE
A fresh report suggest that we might see a first AMD Tonga GPU as soon as late August or early September and the first graphics card with the new GPU should be the Radeon R9 285.

The newest report coming from SweClockers confirms that AMD has finally decided on the name of the upcoming Tonga GPU based graphics card and it should launch as the Radeon R9 285. The report notes that the GPU behind the Radeon R9 285 will be the Tonga PRO, which also suggests that we might see a Tonga XT GPU at a later date, most likely as base for the Radeon R9 285X.

In case you missed the earlier report, Tonga GPU is pretty much the same GPU as the venerable Tahiti since it packs the same amount of stream processors, but will feature a narrower memory interface so the Radeon R9 285 should pack 1792 Stream Processors and 2GB of GDDR5 memory paired up with a 256-bit memory interface. Of course, AMD AIB partners will most likely launch R9 285 graphics card with 4GB of memory as well. According to previous reports, Tonga GPU based graphics cards should eventually completely replace the Tahiti-based ones.

Sauce: AMD Tonga GPU comes as Radeon R9 285

what do you guys think of this cooler http://www.prolimatech.com/en/products/det...id=2458#showtab

i like the fan size can use 2 140 mm fans

cant take my r9 290 stock fan already its too noisy  cry.gif
*
It is good but i think you still need to buy heatsinks for the VRM and VRAM since the cooler didn't cover it. If i'm not mistaken, M1X using it.

I think you can try find Sapphire Tri-X cooler from user that switched to WC since it use reference PCB. llk maybe? tongue.gif

QUOTE(Skidd Chung @ Jul 31 2014, 10:54 PM)
Hi guys, just purchased a 280x from someone but have not test it yet. I am currently still using my HD 6870 so want to ask some advice before I switch the card.
What software should I be downloading to monitor the performance of the card? I only know of MSI Afterburner. I do not intend to OC, just want to do some monitoring.
Is the Raptr software useful?
Any difference if I use Afterburner video recorder or Raptr? Since Afterburner also has VCE support, I wonder if it is the same.
I normally update drivers via Steam, not manually. Any difference with this card or do you recommend a more manual removal of old and installing of new drivers?

Thanks.

FYI: I don't keep track of software related stuff other than games. Though I DIY the PC myself, I don't really read much about the driver issues etc.
*
Just use MSI Afterburner OSD to monitor, Raptr don't have any hardware monitoring tool.
Raptr GVR is superior and recording performance hit is little to nothing in most games compare to MSI AB VCE, but Raptr GVR still lack compatibility.
OBS with VCE is superior to MSI Afterburner and better than GVR in term of compatibility.. it can literally record everything that show on screen or off screen.

with current stock cooling i dont dare to oc at all  sweat.gif

You need to buy 2x 140mm fans which probably make everything cost over RM300 and u need to make sure your casing have adequate space for this huge cooler.
It is a good cooler imo and look pretty badass.

goldfries did a review on this particular cooler, you can check his site.

The Verdict
The MK-26 is a stunning product but comes at a rather hefty RM 269 (approx 80 USD) but it’s well worth it because it looks really beautiful.
Just bear in mind that you’ll still have to factor the cost for a fan or 2. Size wise it’s huge, a tower casing like my N200 couldn’t fit a GPU with the MK26 on it. My BitFenix Phenom-M accomodates the cooler comfortably.

uhh.. don't let website like CPUBOSS/GPUBOSS mislead you. As a processor 8320 is superior esp on multi-core workload. hmm.gif

Someone posted the firestrike scores between this 285 and 280X and it's very close.

It's interesting since 285 specs is alot less than 280X.

Yeah it perform between the 280x and 280 but with 7870XT TDP.

R9-285 reviewed. As expected, fall between R9-280 and R9-280x except in 1 benchmark.

i'm surprised to see it perform better.

last i check, it was same amount of stream processor as 7950 but memory bus reduced from 384-bit to 256-bit

looks like the Tonga is faster than Tahiti. Wait till they come up with the 384-bit version, I think that'll be the 285X.
*
Apparently 285 use a new form of compression algorithm that make it have higher memory bandwidth efficiency compare to Tahiti with 384-bit memory.

Tessellation performance also improved significantly.

Bioshock Infinite and Thief benefit the most from these 2 improvement so far.

Tonga die is also denser compare to Tahiti albeit similar core counts.

2) 285 have four times the amount of asynchronous compute engines than 280, so better tesselation performance. In Assassin's Creed Black Flag which heavily uses tesselation, the 285 is faster than 280X.
*
Surprisingly, it is not that much faster in Batman Arkham Origin which used an absurd amount of Tesselation. hmm.gif

the 14.8 is older than the r9-285 driver. Catalyst 14.8 and 14.7 RC3 is rock stable for me too. gonna try the leaked driver nao.

Hey guys, got a MSI r9 290 gaming in my new rig recently. I was wondering how we redeem the never settle forever bundle? I assumed there was a coupon in the box or something but I can't find anything of the kind.
*
Did you ask your seller? My seller provide it together with my receipt. It's not bundled with the gpu. That's why some unethical seller can give the coupon even if you purchase Nvidia card or sell it separately.
