and there's a couple of people who are producing denim in a very limited numbers... and im not too sure myself if he made his jeans for public or self-satisfaction....

based on previous thread, ive read that evisu is outsourcing to china and macau.
so if you wanna buy ori evisu even though it is made in china just buy at the boutique la.
dont buy from mudah or other people unless you know and trust the seller.

leg twist is part of raw denim/selvedge is part of the allure. some people desire that look for the fades.

if you dont fancy it, try broken twill denim. left hand twill will also counter the leg twist if im not mistaken.
selvedge denim can also be source from countries like bangladdesh. lower production cost plus lower source cotton (non-zimbabwe cotton or non-texas cotton) can also produce cheap selvedge denim.

higher prices for jap denims is because of their source of cotton (zimbabwe being the best) plus the skill of the workers in the japanese mills contribute to more expensive but higher quality denims.

And sometimes the selvedge is just a patch/sewed on the denim lol!

GAP sources their selvedge from Bangladesh for their 1969 (?) range of selvedge jeans... however I think it maybe lower ounces due to the denim feels light and softer

Anyway don't need to go far if sourcing for reasonable quality selvedge that are mass produced on modern high speed high production shuttle loom. Our neighbors up north are making them and I have a feeling that's what they use for all the fake Momotaros or "Red line" selvedge Levis sold at chatuchak for 400 baht a piece

If those Levis with selvedge can be sold for about RM40 taking into account that the shop would earn at least RM5 from each pair that means the production cost for each pair would be less than RM35... minus out the labor for cutting, stitching and making the denim I won't be surprised that the denim cloth itself would cost around RM10 only

This is just an example of how an RM40 imitation selvedge can do what it's much more expensive RM1K brothers can... which is to stand (proudly) on its own lol.



I'm sure many would loathe it and say "oh it's just some imitation crap, can't compare to my real selvedge that I bought for >RM1K". But really, if using this same cheap selvedge denim and improving it's workmanship, much better quality stitching etc, some savvy entrepreneur could claim that the denim is Made in Japan and sell it for a premium.

What I'm saying is that to take everything in life including selvedge denims with a pinch of salt

im not sure about designer jeans. some swear those designer jeans (eg Dior and Burberry) makes decent selvedge and raw denims rather than jump on the bandwagon.

truth is, as a buyer, we know the trade off whether the quality meets the price.
honestly i dont mind where the selvedge and raw denim is sourced from. if the quality and workmanship is there at the appropriate price, i'd buy it.

many had doubts initially on hearing about redcloud, a denim brand based in China. but the quality is there, and some buyers can appreciate that.

i just dont support fake denims. if they come out with an original brand, i have no qualms about it.
