I am a big fan of Alpha Centauri and definitely getting this.

The new quest system seems to be quite interesting.

It wont be a direct sequel to Alpha Centuri though, knowing how Firaxis design their games, they will always change some fundamental mechanics to provide a new experience.

Like what they did with Civ V with hexes and one unit per tile. And XCOM's more narrative driven gameplay.

Yeah.

I enjoy Civ 5 as well as the new XCom. Both of them provided a new yet familiar experience to me.

Pre-purchase Sid Meier’s Civilization: Beyond Earth and receive the Exoplanets Map Pack for free.

The Exoplanets Map Pack includes six custom maps inspired by real-world exoplanets. Specialized scripts produce randomized geographic layouts each time a new game begins, allowing for even more replayability on new alien worlds.

• Kepler 186f: This lush forest planet is one of the oldest known Earth-like planets.
• Rigil Khantoris Bb: Orbiting the closest star to the solar system, the historical records of this arid continental planet’s settlement are well-preserved.
• Tau Ceti d: This planet of seas and archipelagos features a booming biodiversity and a wealth of resources.
• Mu Arae f: Tidally locked in orbit around a weak star, the southern hemisphere of this planet is a blistering desert where the sun never sets, while the northern hemisphere is perpetually in frozen darkness.
• 82 Eridani e: An alien world of scarce water and wracked by tectonic forces.
• Eta Vulpeculae b: A mysterious new discovery with unknown terrain.

Meet Hutama, leader of Polystralia in Civilization: Beyond Earth

user posted image

QUOTE
Firaxis has been posting in-character interviews and letters from each of Civilization: Beyond Earth's faction leaders for a while now. The latest to fall under the spotlight is Hutama, leader of the Polystralians.

Polystralia is a pan-national civ formed from Australia and the Pacific Rim of South-East Asia. They're a generally less aggressive, more trade-focused empire, and leader Hutama embodies their preference for trade and diplomacy over more straightforward, aggressive tactics.

He began his rise to power as a student activist, leading "grass-roots campaigns against corruption and cronyism in reclamation projects only to become the dynamic face for a new generation of the Commonwealth." Now he's the head of the Polystralian colonisation effort.

In Beyond Earth Firaxis outlines the idea of an 'Inflection Point', an approaching moment when humanity no longer has the resources to send a spaceship off to colonise new worlds. Though Hutama is a populist politician generally opposed to propping up the few at the expense of the many, he realises humanity has little choice but to create Freeland, an exploratory expedition of ten thousand souls searching for a new home.

"On one hand you don’t send Freeland; five billion citizens of the Commonwealth suffer privation," says the man himself. "On the other hand you send Freeland; four billion, nine hundred ninety-nine million, nine hundred ninety thousand citizens of the Commonwealth suffer privation. But ten thousand live free and well. Maybe those ten thousand figure out how to fix Earth. Maybe they don’t. Maybe they all decide to drink alien kava and play house music. It doesn’t matter."

In terms of gameplay, an interview with Australian site Gameplanet reveals that Polystralians "tend to favour policies and gameplay tactics that make them lots of cash." On the other hand, they're not quite as fearsome militarily as some of the other factions. One to choose if you like sweet-talking your way out of trouble.

Civilization: Beyond Earth is out this October 24 on PC, Mac, and Linux.

Wanna buy this, but the problem is that I don't have time to play it.
Oh and I'd rather wait for all the DLC's to be released, by then for sure discounted a lot already.

If the sales are good, there will be an expansion.

Firaxis did say that there are a few major features that they could not implement in time. One of them is water based tiles cities and even more faction diversification.

Water based tiles cities would be very interesting as it was not in Alpha Centauri.

Hopefully the sales number will allow them to make DLCs / expansion.

A bit hard to say Firaxis is the best as nowadays, I think Amplitude who developed Endless Space and Endless Legends also have a lot of potential while had proved themselves with Endless Space. I didnt really like the game, due to the really dull combat but their support and communication is fantastic.

But I wont deny that Firaxis is still the best TBS company so far.

Endless Legend is more like another in the same universe that is set on one dying planet. Gameplay wise, both are very different.

You can find the Endless Legend's planet in Endless Space, if I am not wrong, as a barren planet.

Update: Already got the correct CD-key from GMG.

Every copy of Beyond Earth also comes with a copy of the game's soundtrack.

Here are 2 sample tracks from the soundtrack.

It really feels a bit like Anno 2070's soundtrack. hmm.gif

Dire, yet hopeful.

Nothing depressing about that, it feels out of place with that tudung girl still in her tudung in cryo. Where are the suits for god sakes.

Imma gonna play command and conquer music when I rock this game

Which driver are you currently using? 344.13?

I dont have that problem on mine. nVidia recent drivers seemed to have a lot of issues with running games on full screens.

The hardware itself is actually very similar. The only difference is, it is downclocked with some power saving hardware on it. Other than that, it is very identical to the desktop version.

There are modded desktop beta drivers for mobile GPUs and they run just fine. The only difference is they just modify an .ini file that allow the driver to be installed on the laptop.

really loving the tech web so far, non linear choices really makes you think a lot which tech to choose and where you wanna advance your researches

not to mention the new virtue system where you get bonuses by either going deep into 1 virtue or go wide with a few virtues

Just won another game with the promised land victory. By far the most annoying way to win this game.

Got to admit that this game is getting repetitive after a while, not that many nation to choose from. And the AI are just too predictable.

first victory on first play through (transcendence), was planning for a purity game cause of the floatstones at my starting place, but changed to harmony once i realized there's NO titanium at all inside my portion of map (the tectonic scanner perk came in handy there) smile.gif

took me around 300 turns to win it although it could be a lot faster because i was heading the WRONG way in research lol

one big gripe though, managing the trade routes are a pain in the arse since mid to late game i had like 10+ cities and each has 3 trade caravans/vessels to command sweat.gif sweat.gif

I am now trying to mix match the affinities a bit now since the late game upgrades for military units can go either pure affinity or 1 major and 1 minor affinity

p/s: is it just me or the purity level 1 ability (explorer won't be attack by aliens) are just pure OP compared to the other 2 level 1 ability? sweat.gif sweat.gif

Rising Tide expansion anounced
http://www.civilization.com/en/games/civil...th-rising-tide/

QUOTE
After the first wave of great colony ships departed Earth, the jubilation of humanity was short-lived. Those left behind fell into a violent struggle over the quickly-diminishing resources on their barren home world. From this tumultuous time, four new factions arose. These newcomers were grounded not in the idealism of their predecessors, but on opportunism, resilience, ruthlessness, and above all a commitment to their own survival.
Now, many decades after their first landfall on a new planet, the proud survivors of the first expeditions beyond Earth look up to see the skies darkened by a new breed of pioneers.
Beyond Earth extended the Civilization franchise from its historical setting into the possible futures of science fiction. Rising Tide extends Beyond Earth to new frontiers on the planet’s surface and beneath its seas, adding even more choices and diplomatic options as you continue to build “just one more turn” toward a new vision for the future of humanity.

FEATURES

Colonize the Ocean: Build floating settlements and access natural resources hidden beneath the seas of the alien planet. Alien beasts with unique abilities inhabit the water and challenge the player in new ways. The ocean provides a fully replayable map, new gameplay mechanics and strategic possibilities for players to reign supreme on their new world.

Dynamic Leader Traits: Players and AI Leaders alike unlock new Traits through gameplay and activate different combinations to respond to the changing world. These dynamic sets of Traits also provide benefits and add to the new Diplomacy system, governed by the new Fear and Respect attributes.

New, Enhanced Diplomatic Options: Shape the diplomatic landscape by using political capital to upgrade your traits, change diplomatic relationships, and leverage the benefits of your allies’ traits.

New Sponsors: Four new factions have been added to the game including Al Falah, nomad explorers descended from wealthy and resilient Middle Eastern states that possess a rich cultural and commercial heritage.

New Artifact System: Collect and combine powerful relics to unlock new perks, unit upgrades, and buildings for your faction on the new world.

New Hybrid Units: Affinities are competing visions for the future of humanity. By investing in multiple Affinities, rather than specializing in just one, players can unlock special hybrid Affinity units and upgrades.

New Biomes: Two new world types have been added. Primordial worlds are rife in volcanic activity and the chaotic landscape of a world still forming. Frigid worlds have cooled in their great age, their surfaces covered with icy oceans and frozen tundra.
