Hello, i have a suggestion to make.

Do you guys think is there a need to make each post votable? (say, 1-5 poor - good)

I notice sometimes some posters simply post silly or irresponsible or low quality post to the forum. It is wasting more forum space if another poster trying to rectify this by saying "this is lousy post and blah blah" and then flaming continue.

I think it is more obvious and efficient if each post will have its voting rate appear at the bottom. Base on the majority of the vote rate, people can easily tell if one is right or wrong about the quality of the post.
So, all can save time from answering but just one vote will do.

(you guys can check out codeproject forum which they are having it)

Just my suggestion

I think it is a pretty good idea , somehow tedious though.
But eventhough one was rated low , he is still able to post
low quality posts right?

topic rating is indeed one of the features that we have included in our development cycle, it will be implemented, but we can't give you an exact timeline just yet.

thanks for the suggestion! keep 'em coming!

Eventough u can vote, it doesnt eliminates ppl still saying the above posts are lousy..

Different ppl have different opinion...although many ppl disagree but doesnt means its wrong.

it will not be a rating of the entire thread, and not just a single post in a thread. we will also might decide to implement a forumer rating system in the near future.

some users also simply post without anything of actual use.

for example, the ati/amd merger thread, half the posts there are from fanboys who dont have any concept of what the merger is about, and are simply posting ati rocks, nvidia rocks, or making baseless assumptions coming out of their ass.

if anything, i would back this suggestion to improve the quality of postings in the forum.

And whats the point of a forum? discussions..
U cant ban them from posting...unless u want less ppl in LYN...

I do agree there's alot of rubbishs in a good thread especially those specifc discussions..But thats how forums done...
Unless some mods do cleaning up and pinned the thread.

i shall counter that by asking you, what is the point then, of tin kosong discussions? i would much rather have FEWER posts with BETTER quality than more posts that contain as much value as the turd that comes out of my anus every morning. that, i believe, was the whole point of this thread in the first place: a methohd to encourage QUALITY postings.

Yes, i agree. It would be great to have a "reputation points" system where other members can give a positive or negative rep to a post which a forumer makes. The ones who can give rep points obviously need to be at least senior member (to avoid abuse by n00bs who registered 2 hours ago), who themselves don't have a negative overall rep count (this will discourage moronic posters who post simply to get post senior member status). Oh, and of course you can only give rep points in forum sections where posts are counted.

Some reputable forums implement this system, however i can see how this system can be easily abused here. So i do have my reservations.

The rep points have to extend to all members of course, regardless of position.

Does that includes kopitiam and all non post counting section?

If not, then only those few specific ppl would need to have this system only.

If you are referring to my post, no, it cannot include sections where posts are not counted.

If that's the case, tell me what's the value of the reputation points in teh first place? A phallic symbol which is purely virtual? Think about it. If that's the case, everyone should have then Elite and we will all be happily ever after. Owh I forget, sometimes the internets is meant to be an escapists outlet of frustration

not only there

Real World Issues
Debates on real world issues, politics, war and so on. Discussions here are to be handled in a mature and orderly manner.

but some threads are like kopitiam, with blatant bashing, crappy post/discussions, although the topic is interesting to discuss =___="

i think Kopitiam didnt need to rate for post...
coz kopitiam is always chat only
and the thread will be del when it died......

how if admin make a fame value to every forumer to give other ppl rate on him?
i think it is a good idea...

Since there is a way to measure reputation, why need another reputation point?

There is completely no democracy in that way, don't you think? Suck up enough and you'll get your "reputation".

The rep point system has the added benefit of deterring spam even for n00bs and giving direct incentive to make constructive posts.

another suggestion here... jz my 2cent

how abt do the vote for each forumer? but the rate only able to view by ourself, similiar like warn level...

if the forumer really contributing to LYN, highly vote for BEST, perhaps give some awards and encourage other forumer to contribute; if the forumer talking craps, highly vote for WORST, perhaps give some punishment (ban? whatever...), at least wont waisted the server's resources for useless reply...

No, the rep points have to be made public, else it would defeat the whole purpose of the system, which is to let everyone know where you stand. And like i suggested, it cannot be a completely open vote to avoid abuse. Senior members and above can only add a single positive or negative rep point in response to a single post by a person. And you cannot ban a person just because he has a lot of negative rep points, making all points publicly viewable is punishment/reward enough.

u have the point there too...

if the WORST forumer intended have real contribution after "spamming" in LYN, but his visible reputation level is 0% tat time and cant recover back in the shortest time... sound like not fair and all the forumers ignore him as well... perhaps moderator can reset his reputation from 0% back to 50% if the forumer really start to contribute... i forward my thinking only... can ignore my post if not relevant... smile.gif

actually, shouldnt the rep points be more like rating points for that thread only? so instead of recognising the member, the rating points apply to the entire thread, and not the thread starter, as some morons might fill it with spam instead.
