Hi guys...

Need some input. While reversing this morning, knocked into some guy's BMW 5-series bumper. It's my fault and I told the beamer owner I will pay the cost of repair. He said will get back to me with quotation later.

How much it costs? This happened in KL. I think the beamer is a few years old only.

First time accident for me...

that is a msport bumper for e60. cost me RM4k to replace. Do you need to replace it? can't it be repainted?

Why do you need to replace the whole bumper???? It's just a minor accident. Just get it respray would do, roughly rm300 max!

A bus langgar me at traffic jam speed. I can only see a slight "wave" at an angle, but otherwise can't make out the damage. Ingress charged me 1.3 for painting. I claimed from Prasarana.

Guys, is it worth to claim insurance for this???? Or just settle with owner?

If yrs NCD < 5k, why not?
U need report polis first,
need fast oh, remember must be within 24 hrs,
but u need pay summon RM300 first.

If the owner willing to sette, why not?

My NCD is only $300+....with police summon $300. Total $600+.

I think better to claim own insurance then.....

If I make police report, then later settle with owner. Can? Any issues with police later?

You need to check is the clips got damaged or not.

Please try to sette with owner first.
If the amount is ok for u, then need not claim
your own insurance. Need not make a polis report.

If the damage is out of yrs budget, too burden for you.
then, u have no choice, but to claim your own insurance.
In order to claim yrs own insurance, u need make a polis report
to support yrs claim.

Not much issue with polis, they will study the case, if yrs fault, then
you get a max summon of Rm300.00. Need not worry, they wouldnot
detain you for 48 hours because of this, but please prepare at least a
few hour in polis station (traffic) waiting for report /question procedure.

Btw, yrs NCD RM300 only?, it comprehensive or third party insurance?

I afraid he might drag his feet. That's why I asked maybe should make police report first so that can claim insurance later if he wants 4-5k. If only few hundred, I settle with him in person. But after make police report, then still need to go back close report even if settled on your own? This is my first time accident, sorry....

Doesn't appear so....cause the bumper cracked only...

If crack only try to discuss with the owner to repair.
Just discuss with him on the mudguard/paint shop that he willing to go and talk to that boss on the cheapest repair method.
If found out that the clips are broken and need to replace(where the cost > rm1000 as said by other here), better report police, admit you are wrong, lose your NCD and pay rm300 fine(guess you may able to appeal at court for <rm300).
I'll make it simple, if your car's insurance premium need rm500(after NCD 55%), you need to start calculate back next year's premium till you get back 55% again. Also, your car value will drop year by year.
So if you opt for using insurance(guess your car also got some damage,right?), rm300, rm400(after lose your NCD, paying extra), rm300(3rd year after accident), rm250(4th year), rm200(5th year), rm150(6th year)
So, something like rm1600 you are "paying" extra.

Once loose NCD cannot get back? I thought can get back after 3 or 5 years?

You will start back with 0% NCD, then every year add back 10%.

My colleague just replaced his 3 series rear bumper for over 5k after kena bang from behind. 5 series probably won't be cheaper... You might want to consider report polis and claim insurance. These days I stay far far from bmw & merc when driving.
