As the world's biggest and richest club, Manchester United reach a global fanbase.

Part of the attraction for fans around the world has been the football luminaries, such as George Best and Sir Bobby Charlton, who have graced the Old Trafford turf in a Manchester United shirt over the years.

Recently, Manchester United have continued to attract or develop some of the game's biggest names, with England stalwarts such as Paul Scholes and David Beckham having been regular fixtures in the Reds line-up.

The Manchester United team, past and present, reads like a who's who of world football.

It is only fitting that a great team should grace a great stadium. And with Old Trafford's recent development and the closure of Wembley, the ground is easily the largest in English football, holding in excess of 60,000 fans.

Despite this capacity, the demand to see United in action is so great that tickets are hard to come by.

But it isn't only Manchester United fans who flock to Old Trafford. The standard of the ground is such that it regularly hosts high-profile games, most notably, the Champions League Final and Great Britain rugby league games.

Rock fans have also made use of the Reds's facilities, watching a number of high-profile acts at the ground.

But it's football that will forever be synonymous with the Reds famous ground - and with good reason.

The last decade has seen Manchester United under the shrewd leadership of Sir Alex Ferguson maintain a virtual stranglehold on the Premiership crown.

Manchester United has won the league no fewer than 18 times in their history. They are also Cup Kings too, winning the FA cup 11 times, the league cup 4 times, as well as winning the European Super Cup, European Cup Winner's Cup, and 3 times being crowned European Cup champions.

Manchester United has long become a name associated with success both on and off the pitch.

As club profits continue to grow, Manchester United have become one of the richest sports clubs on the planet.

With supporters club branches on every continent, it's hard to go any where in the world and not see somebody wearing the famous red shirt of Manchester United.

QUOTE(zenix @ Nov 24 2009, 09:18 PM)
Hope Alien will sticky this info later.
Though written in 2006 so no Roy Keane yet.

Ex-United players that have moved on to become managers.

Written by Simon Stone (MARCH 22, 2006)

STEVE BRUCE (1987-1996): Took his first steps in management with Sheffield United in 1998, then swiftly moved on to Huddersfield, Wigan and Crystal Palace. Left Selhurst Park in acrimonious fashion after Birmingham targeted him as the replacement for Trevor Francis in 1991. Took Blues into the Premier League but after a heavy FA Cup defeat is struggling to keep his job.

MARTIN POWELL (1971-1983): Stylish and well-respected Scotland centre-half whose authoritative nature appeared to make him a natural for the management game. Lasted four months at Burnley.

SIR BOBBY CHARLTON (1956-1973): Arguably the finest English player of all time proved to be an unmitigated disaster as a manager. Claimed he was not given the resources to make a decent job of it at Preston but was never lured back into management following his departure after a single season.

STEVE COPPELL (1975-1983): After a knee injury cut his playing career short at just 28, Coppell turned his attention to management. Steered Crystal Palace into the FA Cup final and then third place in the old First Division - the Eagles' highest ever - the following season. It was the first of four stints in charge at Selhurst Park in a career which has seen him move to Manchester City (for only six games), Brentford and Brighton. Now at Reading and about to steer the Royals into the top flight for the first time.

PADDY CRERAND (1962-1971): A key figure in United's 1968 European Cup triumph, Crerand lasted five months at Northampton before getting the bullet and, like Charlton, never managed again.

MARK HUGHES (1983-86, 1988-95): Hughes was never tipped as a manager by Ferguson but has taken to the game with ease. Took Wales into the Euro 2004 play-offs. Took over at Blackburn shortly afterwards, steering Rovers away from danger in his first season. Currently in contention for a Champions League spot.

BRIAN KIDD (1967-1974): Another European Cup winner who proved to be a poor manager. Got itchy feet in 1998 after spending seven years as Sir Alex Ferguson's highly-rated assistant. Took command at Blackburn but dismissed six months later.

BRYAN ROBSON (1981-94): United's inspirational leader under Ron Atkinson and Ferguson. There are two schools of thought on his stint at Middlesbrough - he either spent lots and achieved little (relegation and two losing finals) or he laid the platform for the Teessiders to become an established Premiership outfit. Kept West Brom up in extraordinary fashion last year but back in trouble again this season.

GORDON STRACHAN (1984-89): Scotland international who won the FA Cup with United and the title of the pre-Premiership era with Leeds. Sacked after five years at when the Sky Blues lost top-flight status, then enjoyed success at Southampton - reaching the 2003 Cup final - before resigning to spend more time with his family. Now at Celtic, has recovered from a humiliating Champions League exit to Artmedia Bratislava, and, after winning his first trophy on Sunday in the CIS Insurance Cup, is set to clinch the Scottish Premier League.

NOBBY STILES (1960-71): Along with Charlton, one of only two Englishmen to have won the World Cup and European Cup, he replaced his former England and United team-mate at Preston, with limited success. After a brief stint in Vancouver, returned to England to take over as manager of West Brom. Sacked after five months, having gained just three wins.

Underdogs, overdogs.. whatever.

The most important aspect is that the team give their 100%. That is all I ask for. Play for the badge that you are wearing...respect it, love it.

No offense, personally i think Moyes should start Kagawa. He was brilliant over the last game.
He was bang on with the pass to Mata before the penalty decision

aiyoo, why la this Moyes fella ? cant he see what kagawa brings to the table? dah la no Mata....

I'm not putting giggsy down or what but giggsy should be coming off the bench for games like this, not start from beginning....

Giggs was godlike in the previous game he started.
Certainly for long range passing, he is better than Kagawa in that IMO.

With Welbeck who will be pressing the opponent's defense, long range pass and fighting for header might be a better game play.

Short game? We will be slaughtered.

i get what you mean and agree to some extent but then again, realistically, we will not be having a good ball possesion against Bayern so those long range passing would only come in handful.

haiz, difficult to be optimistic, can only rely on the players will to fight against all odds....

Imo fellaini is playing quite bad. I'm not exactly blaming him for poor passing and creativity. But he should at least be able to stop all the high ball effectively, since that is his main role on the team. So !@#$% frustrating

that Welbeck miss is unacceptable for striker....that's why i never like him and he will never be world class player....his decision making is so poor!

although to be honest he having good game on the 1st half...he look dangerous but that doesn't mean anything if he keep missing chance like that

It would be a surprise if welbeck can finish that.

I think that was a decent first half and Moyes got it right, managed to prevent their wide players to cutting in, remind me few period during CR7 era, only the difference it was Welbeck who fill CR7 spot -highest player up in the pitch with no defensive obligation- which sums up the reason why its still goalless.

perhaps fellaini could have done better in trying prevent bayern's goal but take nthg from the team as a whole, I'd gladly keep my head up high even if the results don't favour us at all.

i bet many were expecting a goal fest from bayern without a reply from united, but hey, united nvr die!!

They still got plenty to replace suspended players.

Yes our chance is higher, but we are still underdog, hope the lads can beat the odds.

I think Fellaini did good. Involve both in attacking and defending.
Surely, gonna regret the miss from welbeck. We could win the game since BM does not play well today.
The good news is BM will play wthout their midfield general next game at Allianze Arena. Hope we can exploit that.

Bayern played it safe far too much before we scored. Without a player like Messi, they will struggle to beat teams that defend deep.

Even if they dont have B.S and J.M, they still have a formidable midfield, just swap B.S with Gotze or something. If Dante not available, maybe put Van Buyten? That could be something the team can look to exploit.

Takut apa? Go to Munich and draw 2-2. Settle. United progresses on away goal rule. Winrar. inb4 dreaming.

But seriously, Bayern have the resources to replace Basti and Martinez. Dante is back. They have Gotze wub.gif , Thiago, Kroos, Muller etc to play in that role. And Lahm was phenomenal last night. Damn, I need to buy a Germany jersey with Lahm 16 liao since no one carries Gotze 19 NN sad.gif

When asked if he agreed with the decision, Guardiola offer a swift rebuttal: "Absolutely not," he said. "I spoke with the referee and he gave me his opinion. I have to respect."

But sometimes, they have to whine, either because they want to gain some protection/advantage or to misdirect pressure and attention, etc.

Rest the players for next week's BM. Have to give these players some game time anyway. Build some confidence, and perhaps in their mind, if they play well

they might be chosen for BM game?

heard some say that we have the best away record in the league and that's supposed to give us some advantage for 2nd leg? come on la...

we have to dig deep again next week. vida has a point where he said man u have the pace to hurt bayern ( welbeck, valencia) but more importantly is for kagawa to be on in the starting eleven. that guy oozes calmness. keeps possesion and good pass completion. he will be the one responsible to unlock our strikers at the AA.

I think we should stick with Buttner. He has performed quiet well from what we all expected. Evra has the experience but don't have the speed that he had anymore. It's hard to track Robben like that..

Stick with Buttner. He showed that, what he lacks in defensive skills, he made it up with effort and fight. Evra might have the experience and skills, but lately if he went forward, he just jogged back. Sometimes, "better" players need a kick in the backside to make them wake up, and realise it is not automatic selections.

To be honest, Moyes never a fan of young players. Same thing happened back in Everton time too. So i doubt he will pick Buttner over Evra.

'honest' what? nah, thats just your assumption. did you follow his career or u just spout it randomly?

Moyes did gave a youngster a chance, i reckon as much as SAF did (but both did not do as much as, let say, Wenger). if we review the last 5 years works, comparing how Moyes and SAF did handled and eased youngster to 1st team, i think Moyes had better record. but its comparing apple to orange, because Everton and United got different expectations. lower expectation give manager more freedom to try and test young players.

(im not defending Moyes. IMO, i did find some posters here criticized Moyes for wrong things, things that actually he did good. he'll never be a great manager to United, i sincerely hope the board sack him soon, but not everything he did were wrong)

Buttner vs Evra. Buttner did a solid work against robben. shame he did injured. but it seem Buttner got an instruction to stay deep. his positioning always got criticized before, so when he staying deep, his defending work improved in the last game.

though if they both fit 100%, i will choose Evra. i might try double LB (with Buttner as LW) if we need to defend at dying minutes. let say the scoreline is 2-2, 5 minutes remaining. IMO chances to see Buttner do some silly mistakes are higher than Evra (experience)

from old business (club football) model perspective, yes we have an excellent youth setup. the likes of West Ham, Southampton etc also have a very good ones. but hell, even the likes of Bayern and Barca spent big on yearly basis.

but with the likes of PSG, Monaco, City, Chelsea, they revolutionized the game entirely. the deeper your pocket, the bigger impact /improvement u can make. the right manager+loads of cash =quick success. the youth development can wait.

i hate to say this, but Liverpool did well with moderate spending. whether they are 1 season wonder, time will tell.

football fans nowadays are impatient, they want to see a result. Arsenal fans for almost a decade, bragging about how good Wenger promoting youngsters. they believed they are breeding a stars, instead of buying them. but without a silverware for about 8 years, the talks these days are more to, which star striker Wenger should buy? 40 mil, thats not a problem. they spent more than that on Ozil.

do we care who won a reserve league, u18, youth FA cup etc? it wont matter unless we won the real ones (senior level).

and IMO, Moyes isnt the right man for Glazers to trust their fortune. but i do not care, its not my money smile.gif spend big or go home.. all i want to see is United success..

Arjen Robben compares Man Utd's approach to a handball team

Bayern Munich's Arjen Robben has compared Manchester United's deep-lying defence in their home Champions League last-eight tie to a handball team.

United had only 26% possession at Old Trafford but Nemanja Vidic's header earned a 1-1 draw in the first leg.

"We wanted to play football but they tried to stop us, just playing on the counter-attack, it was almost like handball," said winger Robben.

Handball teams often use all seven players in a tightly-packed defence.

The tactic forms a barrier in front of goal, aiming to limit the attack's scoring opportunities rather than regaining possession.

"It was not easy, as Manchester United played very defensively and didn't leave any gaps," added the 30-year-old, who played for Chelsea between 2004 and 2007.

Robben's manager Pep Guardiola made a similar observation after the match.

"When you see the second half and you see nine players in the box, it is not easy," the Spaniard said. "It's important that we controlled so well in this situation and we played with patience and found the goal."

Bayern Munich midfielder Toni Kroos, who played 74 minutes of the game before being replaced by Mario Gotze, told Munich newspaper TZ  that although he was impressed by Old Trafford, he will not push for a move to United.

"It is a beautiful stadium, but I belong to Bayern Munich," the 24-year-old said.

Kroos, who is yet to agree an extension to a contract that expires in the summer of 2015, has been linked with a move to Manchester United.

Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has said the German champions will hold Kroos to the final year of his current deal, ruling out any move at the end of this season.

defending are part of the game, as much as attacking. for a team short of confidence, only 4 defenders available (half of them not even regular), parking a bus are obvious option. i think, no shame of that.

technically Bayern is leading us (away goal), but the result very much better than most people expected. Bayern is the strong favorite, but United to nick a goal or 2 at Munich isnt beyond realm of possibility.

at least we making them sweat, the bestest side in Europe, and they need to give their best shot to overcome this inferior side of United.

i want to see Nani, Hernandez, Varela this saturday. shame we didnt have much choice on defense.

nah, u just generalize (hastily).. not all United fans got a very same opinion. in fact under SAF, when United probably among the best in Europe (Ronaldo years), United rarely had a lion share of possessions against top /better oppositions. we always better known as counter attacking team.

if any United fans undermined Chelsea's tactic under RDM (that won them CL), thats their problems. they just born bitter. for me, just play our strength. from history, CL not only won by the best team in Europe.

anyway, Bayern without Schwansteiger and Martinez are good enough to undone all United hard defensive work.

and u came here after last night result, nah.. defensive what?

Robben butthurt much? Just because he tried a couple of finesse shots and missed, and claims that we play defensive football? So we are supposed to open up the defense and let him score, that is called football right?

Glad we didn't sign sore losers like Robben. Tika-taka is good but there MUST be an end product, unfortunately Manzukic started from the bench, otherwise he would've made the difference. A false-9 formation can be risky, unless he's Gotze wub.gif

just counter generalized it.

yap..playing the team according to the team strength and opponents weakness..agree with you on some of your points, but media never really stamp that United park the bus..maybe something about us that irk the media..not sure why.

bayern without that two players..maybe a little lightweight..but still they can shift their AM to be CM..can play a little bit high.

well we expected to lose at Paris..but not on that scoreline. PSG play really well..it was quite open last night..both side attack..but their depth and bench quality is terrifying.

it'll be same game plan, same script at Munich. possession 70-30 to Bayern, resulting probably 7 chances for them and 3 for us. so its up to our forwards to use that use that little chances and pray (and play) the best to our defensive play.

em, what if Moyes use all fringe players against Newcastle, only to lose heavily (let say 0-4). what will be the reaction of our fans?

psg was no better than chelc. what differentiate chelc and psg was the attacking force.

I rather have evra as the LW. He bombed forward so much that it seems like he is trying to be the new(old) Gareth Bale to me laugh.gif . He is better than Buttner technical wise, besides, i think Buttner is more likely to follow instruction than Evra.

If we managed to score a goal first, we might stand a chance of getting through. Bayern will pretty much comes in and play the same way. They are very patient but it is also because of that, they failed to create more chances in the 1st leg. They only started to made more risky pass after we scored. If they did it from the moment the match start, i don't think we'll stand a chance.

Manchester United have been watching Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho all season.

Latest reports in Portugal suggest Manchester United scouts will be in attendance on Saturday when Sporting Lisbon take on Bebe’s side Pacos de Ferreira.

Some newspaper reports have even suggested that a deal for William Carvalho is all but done, with his agent Jorge Mendes already fixed up the deal with Manchester United.

Now it appears that even Google think Carvalho has signed for David Moyes’ side…

Stick “Man Utd squad” into Google and the picture above is what appears!

Guys,

I have question about museum tour. I am going to old trafford in May this year. I wanted to buy ticket museum tour but the ticket has many type. What are differences? I saw this types:

- Museum and Tour
- Legends/Leisure Cruise tour
- Legends Tour
- Old Trafford Experience
- Leisure Cruise Tour

What are they? Anyone mind to share?

a very good game. i would say the link up at the front is a joy to watch...a tiki-taka version of Man Utd. The combo of kagawa + mata + januzaj + nani is really nice and with a good striker they can tear up any defenses.

good win..isn't that hard to manage United Mr Moyes...u just need better brain for the decision of who gonna start the match and substitution...I'm pretty sure if those overrated English player haven't start ahead of Kagawa and Hernandez...we probably sitting comfortable at top 4

i will go hell for saying this but I'm so glad Young injured and i hope he be out the rest of the season for the sake of our club

Agreed that Fellaini really needs to improve, especially if he has dreams of playing as a DM.

Overall though, it was a good game today!

Lindegaard looked very good, especially since he has barely played at all this season.

Jones and Smalling got time to work on their partnership.

Mata ran riot, Kagawa did well, Chicharito scored too!

Januzaj didn't have his best game, but the goal was nicely done.

Great football from us, Our attackers are really on song today especially our Don Juan who looks effortless every time he gets the ball. (That free kick was tremendous thumbup.gif ).

Fletcher and Lindegaard too was very good. I'm seeing something in Buttner, can he replace our great Patrice? time will tell but he's looking good again.

Overall well done lads.

bayern game will decide my opinion on moyesin / moyesout

moyesout
- Cleverly start and end up lose the match. I'm getting very afraid cleverly will start bayern match. Resting in bench, regenerating. zzz he is fit again:( obviously we know he is rubbish at the moment. he can only start against bottom team match. funny we like to see cleverly and young injured
- Kagawa no start and end up lose the match. it's crazy not to start kagawa. pretty obvious the creativity he gave to the attack and had in hand most of the goals in recent matches.

moyesin for next season first 10 matches lol
- win against bayern, this shows he can outmatch top team, even though lose 99% top team matches in epl this season

on other note, fellaini is an asset with his height, but keep losing possession and sloppy pass in last 2 matches , just rubbish.. hope he improve though. buttner play much better than evra. on one occasion, some newcastle player just drift pass evra easily

Did you see that, Moyes? This is when you play Mata, Kagawa, januzaj, Hernandez.... and keep out Cleverly/Young/Welback/Valencia...

Now we MUST beat Everton at Goodison Park on April 20th and the last 4 matches...

and rely on Arsenal or Man City to beat Everton only we can at least qualify for Europa.

Assuming
1.) Everton wins the other 4 matches against bottom table teams.
2.) Tottenham must at least draw one of their remaining matches against current 6 second half table teams (#10 Stoke, #11 west ham, #13 Aston Villa, #16 West Brom, #18 Fulham & #20 Sunderland)

At last, Utd's fan dream line-up laugh.gif . 2nd half was a joy to behold, even more when Nani was in the side.

Valencia actually used the outside of his right foot to pass. OMG! Now, all he has to do is use it sometimes to cross as well.

Why was Feillaini given so much freedom to roam? sweat.gif

Exactly, that is such a blessing to have Fletcher Fellaini Carrick to rotate for 2 central midfielder slots. I have been personally preferring Fletcher over Carrick, and with him being fit again and still at the age of 30, he still has years ahead of him. And with this, Moyes can always keep Jones at central back.

Time for Moyes to trust another player to occupy the no 10 role, Mata. Rooney can still be useful in narrow right winger slot in the similar role of Mirallas, else Mata/Kagawa/Rooney can play together and dynamically switching side between them behind the striker.

Other than defender, United is well stocked from goalkeeper to striker. Coentrao , Coleman/Santon/Aurier would be dream to have, but who knows, back then Moyes only spent 60k pounds to buy Coleman, maybe he will pull another wonder to sign excellent player from nowhere at very cheap price.

A good win, though it was against poor-form side which lost 0-4 to Tottenham and 0-3 to Everton and Sunderland in previous 5 home matches.

Yeah, you are right. What to do? All the losses prior last night was pretty "taxing" on the emotional energies. Can't cope it. Plus, I think Moyes will be alright in the

end, just have to some "minor" things to sort out. He has to get the right acquisitions right. No more "overpaid" player, even though that would make any

"parents" happy.

Btw, how's La Masia nowadays? Heard that Korean child/kid (15 years old?) has very good reputation. Very very "young" and talented.

For the last several minutes, United played with 1 holding midfielder (Fletcher) and 2 attacking ones (Mata/Kagawa)? Would that be a sign that Carvalho is going

to be in that holding position in the future, and having the likes of Kagawa and Mata controlling the final third? hmm.gif Looks interesting as those two are very

intelligent footballers and works hard for the team.

Glad Nani is back and slowly introduced back to the team. It would be too early to play him vs. BM even though he has great histories vs. them.

Glad to see chica being more preferred than thatkid, and see the result? He's happy and celebrating again smile.gif hope he stays and get more time.

No RVP and Roo in BM UCL sad.gif same team? I think putting in janu mata and kagawa is really good in links, and chica can be the lone striker in front. 4231 formation? with fellaini and carrick as DM.

If Rooney can't be fit in time for Munich, who do you guys think will slot into his position?

A lot of people suspect it might be Feillaini to play there...

my logic, stronger teams are bound to get more 'lucks' /ref decisions than weaker teams..

better players, attacks and controlling games more, bigger reputation of players /managers..

i think this season, City got more decisions than any other teams..

nice result Everton. i always admire Wenger, but never real -life Arsenal fans ive known.. serve them right..

Looking at the table this morning...

Liverpool have done all they can by staying ahead with a win at West Ham.
Chelsea done enough to see off visitors Stoke by poking 3 goals at them. I'm wondering why they haven't recalled the on-form Lukaku since they need the legs for UCL and BPL.
City marched on with a 4-1 home win against Soton, still with two games in hand will they win those games and leap frog to the top?
As if Arsenal didn't have enough problems at Everton, Arteta forgot his shirt color and scored for his old club to make it 3-0 for the home side. With one game in hand and on-form it is very possible Everton leapfrog's Arsenal to forth.
Tottenham has a chance to leapfrog United and back into 6th place with a home win against Sunderland on a midweek game, which I think is possible because Sunderland is woeful!

first..Lukaku asked for the loan deal because of the WC, so I think he want to stay there for the whole season.

I think Everton paid for the loan..so..we cant recall him.

Mourinho was at the Goodison Park.. scouting Lukaku or maybe transfer target.

ideally, most of us want to see Kagawa as #10. but Moyes seem dont fancy the little Japanese. most of the time, he only use Kagawa as plan B.

the XI i want to see (considering Rafael and Rooney out)

DDG
Jones-Vidic-Ferdinand-Evra
Valencia-Carrick-Fellaini-Welbeck
Kagawa
Hernandez

Nani and Januzaj as game changer when we pursuit the game. Giggs to calm things down if we are ahead and need to close shop.

but im i afraid Moyes is cautious manager, probably he'll put Smalling as RB and shove Jones as 3rd CM. sacrifice attacking force, either Kagawa or Hernandez. feck Moyes if he do that.

Agreed with you on all counts.

If he moves Jones to CM (or plays Fletcher in CM instead. Edit: ok iirc he isnt registered in our CL squad) and drops Fellaini then it would be better, but like you... I suspect playing 3CM and sacrificing attack is quite likely.

As usual la... what do you expect from ABUs? Last time when Chelsea won the league @ OT with a blatantly offside goal, or beat Wigan and another team @ SB within a few weeks with some weird ref decisions in their favour... no big fuss aside from the losing manager.

With us, even the hint of an iffy decision and the ABUs bring out their lame banners and protests.

It would take an epic miracle. Top 3 are a tier ahead of the rest in terms of points, so it's basically 3 clubs aside from us looking at 4th spot with hungry eyes.

- Spurs under Sherwood are doing their expected downward trend now that the initial new manager buzz is gone. Won't be surprised if they end up behind us in May.
- Arsenal have been struggling of late, but are still a decent amount ahead of us. Eventually they should turn things around and recover to finish ahead of us.
- Everton are in seriously good form, they currently look well placed to take 4th. Even if they somehow mess up, Arsenal recovering would be enough for them to take it.

TLDR: Only if Everton AND Arsenal implode, unlikely to happen. Also, I dare not count on us to maintain a winning run until season end.. so many times this season positive results have been followed by small or big setbacks. Would LOVE to be totally wrong about this.

IMHO, the shift of formation in the last several minutes vs NUFC might be the formation to be used vs BM. 4-1-2-2-1 (or whatever variations of 4-3-3 when

attacking and 4-5-1 when defending). BM don't have any physical presence in midfield, might as well just leave Fellaini on the bench. Contrary to most people's

opinion about Clev, I think he would thrive when playing with players like Kag and Mata. He is not Scholes-type and will never be I think, but he is more pass and

move type, and he would be more compatible when playing with them. Just that, he is low on confidence at the moment, like some players but I am glad Tony is

slowly gaining it. He used outside of his foot to pass for starters! tongue.gif

the best we can get is 6th. we will catch Spurs, they blows hot and cold.

Arsenal and Everton will fight for 4th. Arsenal are exploding, but i doubt we can catch them. FA Cup might be a distraction for Wenger, but finishing 5th or 6th are not very much different.

i dont think loan deal between top flight clubs include recall clause. that'll be mad.

Lukaku still a raw talent. Mourinho clearly emphasize result over youth development, as he did in Madrid. he thought his strike forces are good enough with Etoo, Torres and Ba. since he's playing with lone striker system.

in retrospective, i think he should line up expensive /top quality back up plan when he try to buy Rooney. (rather than bought Etoo)

i hope we can be in the mix for Lukaku. Mourinho seem dont mind to dealing with us. as much as i like RVP, i prefer Lukaku over him (for a long term). though strengthening strikers position are our lowest priority.

Eto'o is a package come in with Willian deal..we sign him as free transfer because Anzhi wanna reduce their wages burden..and luckily Eto'o agree to take pay cut to join us.

our transfer policy is a little bit weird lately because of the FFP, and I strongly believe that Mourinho planned to sign a new striker next season since the start of the season..we tried Rooney but..failed..plus no one really available in the last summer transfer.

well, Mourinho let Mata go because Mata want to go.

and early this season..its Lukaku who ask for the loan deal because of the World Cup..he want to go to West Brom, but Chelsea rejected because it will be on the same level as the previous year..so Chelsea accept Everton loan deal.

plus Mourinho develop his team start from the back..defend..defensive midfielder..and attacking midfielder..what left is the striker..with Mourinho watched Lukaku at Goodison Park..I believe that we will use him next season..with rumors that we may clear out all strikers. biggrin.gif

I really hope Hernandez cont to play upfront with Kagawa, Januz, Mata, sorry Mata is cup tied, and Nani for the support. Welbeck can also but not as main striker pls

No Fletcher meaning that big afro Fellaini will be in the middle with Carrick or Giggs.

Back as usual....but pls, put Buttler instead of Evra, i prefer Buttler pace to make up his lacking experience but for rb, pls Jones there.

the rest stay the same

yap..because Mata is surplus to the way Mourinho want Chelsea to play..the way he bought players and set up the team more like his Real Madrid..fast paced counter attack..high pressing game..total football type of defending when we lost the ball..

with KDB and Mata sold, he buy Matic and Salah and still earn some profit. this is where the FFP come in.

and he want to bring in more steel to the pivot, Matic..he signed Salah to add more depth the squad for AM because we lost Mata and KDB at the same time.

yap..we signed him before this..but at that time..our midfielder were Lampard, Ballack, Deco, Essien and Mikel..he cant even break thru..we bought David Luiz with cash+Matic to Benfica.

He developed really well at Benfica, Mourinho come in..and want Matic..so thats why we felt a little weird when Luiz and Matic partner in the defensive midfielder..maybe the best partnership so far for us at pivot position.

KDB..well he want to leave..because of WC just like Mata.

Cleverley will play instead of Kagawa next week. Cleverley motm against Bayern and in the semi and final and won Ballon d'or.

United thru to UCL next season via winning it this season and knock Arsenal who is in the 4th place.

matic was a CFC player earlier in his career but couldn't make it then, right?
i understand salah is a cheap replacement but why sell KDB since he is considered home grown player, that helps their FFP rite?
*
back then we were really in need of CB, that was why matic was the make weight for david luiz deal.

as for KDB, if we cant promised a youngster game time and he decided that he didnt want to fight for places who are we to stop him from going. keeping unhappy players is like a ticking time bomb.

Another problem would be keeping that incredible man between the stick at other side of Madrid. One of the best goalkeeping talents out there. I for one glad

United wouldn't have that problem in the foreseeable future, as DDG is developing well and getting steadier after each passing week. Lindergaard is one of those

very good back up that wouldn't complain much without minutes on the pitch. At least, I hope not. tongue.gif

Manchester United have reportedly joined in the chase for highly-rated Benfica hit-man Rodrigo.

David Moyes is looking to freshen up his forward line and sent scouts to run the rule over the Brazilian-born Spanish striker in Benfica’s 1-0 Europa League win at Dutch club Alkmaar last Thursday.

The 23-year-old has been a goal-machine at Benfica, scoring 38 goals in 58 starts and 11 substitute appearances.

And the Daily Mirror website have now claimed Moyes is ready to meet the £35 million valuation and bring him to England.

yap..we signed him before this..but at that time..our midfielder were Lampard, Ballack, Deco, Essien and Mikel..he cant even break thru..we bought David Luiz with cash+Matic to Benfica.
He developed really well at Benfica, Mourinho come in..and want Matic..so thats why we felt a little weird when Luiz and Matic partner in the defensive midfielder..maybe the best partnership so far for us at pivot position.
KDB..well he want to leave..because of WC just like Mata.

Rodrigo? Already knew he will be a superstar. His goals for Benfica is always consistent. Quick, accurate and has that knack of scoring goals, I don't understand why does Torres gets the nod ahead of him for Spain. At only 23, he has yet to show his full potential. Come on Del Bosque, get rid of Torres. He don't deserved to be called up.

Rodrigo-Diego Costa. Spain forward line hnghhhh.

winning CL are more likely than get the 4th place.

not that winning CL are easier, but to get the 4th we are much depend Arsenal, Everton and Spurs to be in bad form. while winning our every games.

in CL, hypothetically there's 4 games left. win 3 games and draw one ensure us win the cup without thinking much what happens to others.

anyway, just enjoy the Bayern's game. either we will be in euphoria mode or back default 'MoyesOut' mode.. this game probably might be the only +ve highlights of our Season 2013/14 Review DVD..

Based on paper, Man Utd and Arsenal could win all the remaining games while Everton could win 4 out of 6. But, that is on paper. I hope that MU win all game while the team like Sunderland/Southampton or even Hull to take some points off Everton and Arsenal. Not to forget, Spurs as well. Mathematically, it is still possible but it is a slim chance.

Want it or not, we have to make it in CL to qualify Next year CL. It is a mountain to climb but with recent performance, we have a chance. But again, with Moyes Yo-Yo performance team, anything can happen.

ill be happy if we win all our remaining league (and CL) games. dont matter what Spurs, Everton and Arsenal do. i want Europa spot, but thats hoping for Arsenal win FA Cup to ensure it.

but most important thing, i wanna see more games like last saturday. free flowing, swift passing, very delightful. need to 'sacrifice' rvp or rooney to see that again..

QUOTE
Sylvain Distin has admitted his surprise that some Everton followers would give up a Champions League place to stop city rivals Liverpool winning the title. Everton’s push for a top-four Premier League finish has set up the possibility of a dilemma for the club’s fans in the closing weeks of the season.

Roberto Martinez’s side host Manchester City in their penultimate match on May 3 -- knowing that a home win could enhance Liverpool’s chances of a first league title since 1990. City and Chelsea are the only two sides with a realistic chance of overtaking the Reds, who secured a ninth successive Premier League win on Sunday by beating West Ham 2-1 to go back to the top of the table.

• O'Farrell: Martinez outfoxes Wenger in Prem
• Usher: Defense rules for Liverpool vs. West Ham

Everton, meanwhile, are just one point outside the Champions League qualification spot after beating Arsenal 3-0 on Sunday. They also have a game in hand on the fourth-placed Gunners.

Centre-back Distin, 36, is dreaming of a place in next season’s Champions League, but has been astonished to find that not everyone at Goodison Park feels the same way. He told British national newspapers: "We’ve spoken about it with some of the staff and said: ‘What if we have to beat City to be in the Champions League, but by doing that Liverpool win the league?’

"The funny thing is, some people would rather we don’t get Champions League [football] as long as they don’t win the league. It’s mad.

"Personally I’d rather be in the Champions League. You can’t miss a chance for that. It would be amazing for the city if both clubs made it. I think deep down both sets of fans would like it if both clubs were in it."

You know I have this warm fuzzy feeling where we are having a good streak of runs. Draw against Bayern 1-1 and then 4-0 thumping win against Newcastle. I am not trying to be negative just this goosebumps that we might conceed 2-3 goals and the whole tie will be over talking about the game against Bayern. sad.gif

Mata's Blog -

QUOTE
07/04/2014 "May the streak goes on!"

"Hi everyone:

The truth is, after a game like Saturday's, I realise once again how nice football can be, and how much you enjoy the few days following a victory and a good performance. I still have a smile on my face :-) To spend a relaxed Sunday knowing that you have done your job is priceless. And it was not an easy thing to do in St. James' Park, but the team delivered and we got three more points to keep this great streak on away games.

After the match I was very happy from a personal point of view; moreover, I was really pleased with the effort made by all players to win, and it's a key victory to try to climb on the table and to go to Germany full of confidence.

I scored and enjoyed on the pitch again; I wish the streak goes on until the end of the season. As I said after the game, I have a very good understanding with my team-mates and I was also very happy with Chicha and Adnan's goals.

By the way, you may wonder about my celebration with De Gea... The reason is that we had been practising free-kicks the day before and David said I was going to score against Newcastle... because that day I was misfiring all my shots! And so it happened :-)

This victory gives us a lot of energy for our game in Munich on Wednesday. In the first leg, the support from Old Trafford was our power to cope with such a tough game. It was a great night that I had to enjoy from the stands. On Wednesday I'll be supporting from home, in front of the TV, aware that the Allianz Arena is one of the toughest stadiums in Europe... but also aware that we are Manchester United and I'm sure we can make it through!

In Spain it seems the battle for the title will be thrilling until the very end. The top-three teams won, including Atlético, who had a complicated match, and Real Madrid, in a remarkable 0-4 in Anoeta, Real Sociedad's fortress. At this stage they all know that dropping one single point can make the difference and that is stressing... At the bottom of the table things are yet to be decided. In that regard, Elche's victory against Getafe was one of the main games of the weekend.

Last week I visited Lymm, a village full of historical buildings surrounded by canals. A perfect place to relax and forget about everything. Since we don't play the next weekend I may try another escape somewhere else. I invite you to make suggestions wink.gif

Once again, thank you very much for your support and for your recent messages. I read you! I hope I can keep my good streak!

Hugs!

Juan

just put Mata and Kagawa together. they will create their own positions. no matter in attacking center or flanks.

now RVP and Rooney injured, i think Hernandez also a key (someone who've a good pace to outrun defenders and receive Mata /Kagawa killer pass)

Kagawa-Rooney-Mata should axis of our attacking game next season.

1) Let's not get our hopes up, guys. Chances of anything are very very slim. We're as good as out of the CL and top 4 in BPL. Heck, we'd be lucky to even make the Europa League. My point is, hope for the best all you want. But expect the worst. Don't go throwing crazy tantrums when the worst really happens.

2) My dream right now is for our current crop of players flourish. Saves the club a lot of money. RvP up front, Rooney, Mata and Kagawa behind him roaming. Now if we only had someone to partner Carrick behind them. Will Fellaini grow into that role? Or maybe Cleverley? Such a formation would require two very good fullbacks as well I guess.

The front four has to play closer to each other and not like current where Kagawa & Mata hugging the line ineffectively, leave the room for wing backs.
Carrick these days clearly cant play the role as he used to be, would prefer fletcher + fellaini at this moment.

mata
rvp
roon

gotta be a formation whereby we can fit all 3 in one formation. flat 442 doesnt work for us anymore eventho it has serves us well throughout the years. i think DM is tryna change that by trying various formation since he tookover. deswai our form/results have been up & downs and facing uproar from the fans. fletch + afro in the middle of it seems not bad of a combo so far.

if we *ahem*touchwood* wins on thurs morning, i go buy new semakfon riao. hngh!

I agree. For that to work and with the qualities these players have, they should stay closer to each other and work more passes, link ups and movement off the ball.

But what might be a problem for this is the fact that we don't have reliable fullbacks to overlap on the outside. Opponents could easily play narrow and crowd out the middle if that were the case.

How's the Z1? brows.gif

Wazza RvP Mata

I guess someone has to be sacrificed again, at least defensively to the wings. hmm.gif Just hope now Wazza is happier, he would be fitter as in 09/10 fit, then

maybe his touches wouldn't be too heavy again. rolleyes.gif

err i thought we are more exposed if the opponent play with width ? becos the front four doesnt protect the wingbacks as good as winger - this is how we attacked chelsea and arsenal in the past by exploiting that area unsure.gif
edited - just realise u were talking about how opponent gonna stop us, ya crowding out the mf is also what we do to ars tongue.gif
that's why we need a good mix of tactics and not too single-dimensional

u richfag, different story. wat fon u have now? i poorfag, can onli bajet those low end punya. sweat.gif samseng fon not for human wan.

or we can play 433, but that'll mean mata will be shoved to the side of the front 3 instead of his preferable behind the striker position.

or we can play the christmas tree formation made famous by ancelotti during his earlier AC milan days. lone striker, rotate between rvp + roon, and then the 2 amc in mata + kagawa behind them. woah,,, ultimate jizzsm.

wings? wat wings? our wings have been non-existence for whole season. offload 'em all. tony v can keep as backup for rightback. we dun play with wingers.

It's still really up in the air how Moyes will structure the formation and line up. In a way, that is good, I guess. Less predictable.

That is when they have the ball and attack. When they defend, they only need to stay compact in order to crowd out the central areas. Same like how most teams defend against Barca.

I guess less predictable is good, but then again if chop and change all season, he would make Ranieri the stagnant one! Just hope he already found a few

formation to play with now, and next season. No more changes, at least nothing too much.

side of the front 3 is ok as long as they stay close to each other - see how silva play for MC
and most importantly is team mate's off the ball movement

I not rich fag ler. sweat.gif I never buy flagship phone pon. Just a Z1 Compact. Mid range stuff and that oso on discount and because my current S2 really not reliable anymore.

Right now, the best players are not wingers but more of forward type players. Mata, Rooney, Januzaj, Kagawa. I think even Young and Welbeck can play in similar roles. We really ought to make use of them in formations that maximize forwards. That's what I think lar. 4-2-3-1. But such a formation, as I mentioned earlier, needs good fullbacks to stretch opponents defence wider to open up space in the middle. Evra is aging edi. Buttner still unproven. Rafael is always injured. Smalling not reliable enough. Really hard to see that working for us.

I think recent performances.. 4-2-3-1 with Kagawa on the inside left, Mata in the No.10 and Januzaj on the right, with Rooney as the lone striker, we'll be just fine. RVP's injured and on the wrong side of 30. No harm selling him. We just need real steel in midfield to protect our defence and keeping the ball

Yeah, great phone right? biggrin.gif

Agree. If there's one difference between Moyes and SAF that's obvious is that SAF is more ruthless and decisive. SAF was always quick to make decisions. You'd see changes and a turnaround within 6 games. Moyes takes longer to make decisions, presumably because he isn't as sure of himself and SAF knows the players better compared to Moyes.

At this point, we can only hope.

ya 4-2-3-1 is ideal and seems to be the trend now
evra/buttner/rafeal are wingbacks but all three have respective trouble sweat.gif
smalling and jones are at best only full backs..
my wish is rafeal to get fitter and grows mature faster, and get shaw to succeed uncle three drool.gif

Well I'm just thinking it will be very hard to get very good players to join a team that has no CL next season, so I focused on maximising existing players. Just my opinion, though. Who knows, Moyes might come out with something different that works better.

Yeah, I hope Rafael gets stronger and Shaw joins us. But that's really all pipe dreams until it actually happens.

It's a Z1 Compact. Not the Z1. Around 1500++

Buttner needs to be performing like that on a weekly basis. Jury's still out on him, for me. Not enough games to prove anything. Except that both SAF and Moyes would rather play a slow Evra than Buttner. I hope Buttner does improve though. Save us a lot of money and grief in the transfer window. And that game against Bayern is a positive step. Rafael, well he's good but injured too often. If he can only cut down his injuries, he can make a huge impact for us. I doubt Everton would sell again unless it is for silly money again, and I'm not sure that's a good thing for us.

Wow. that much money for Shaw? Is it confirmed?

Seem like our left back transition been the same for past 2 players. Heinze playing well, but when reach 30 y/o, form start dropping and more injury prone, that time we bought Evra for his backup, so-so performance and when start playing him more, that's the Evra we get for now.

Now Evra also the same, reach 30 y/o, form start dropping, good is he not injury prone. Now we bought Buttner for his backup. Hope Buttner can reach Evra level. laugh.gif

That Heinze fella form dropping because wanted to move across town to Liverpool shakehead.gif No way SAF would let that happen. Form dropping probably

focus lost already. unsure.gif

Buttner seems to improve his defensive skills. Not to say it is "world class" already, but steadier than before. Have to let Buttner play the remaining games and

see if he really has what it takes.

Strength wise, Buttner is better than Evra, more bulk and taller.

Speed wise, Buttner is as fast as young Evra.

Attacking wise, Buttner quality is there but Evra slightly better than him.

Defend wise, this all we know. 😂😂

Play him more, let him exposed to more world class wingers, his defensive level sure will level up. Polish abit his attacking skill, he is ready to claim for the left back spot.

Television effect I think 😂 Wherever Buttner play, always feel like he taller and bigger size than Evra.

If you play Buttner once in a while, then he will not grow into a better LB.To me,he's already good, only need to improve a bit on Defending and Attacking.I'd give him 7.5/10. nod.gif

Mangala.. icon_idea.gif Expensive though.. doh.gif Hummels? icon_idea.gif Ginter? icon_idea.gif Or maybe Eric Dier.. brows.gif

Didn't expect PSG to blow their 3-1 lead.....

With this kind of spirit, they are quite capable to win the UCL.

Let see today's game if we can manage to stun Bayern. It would be interesting to have 2 Spanish and 2 English team in the semis brows.gif

without afroman it will be even heavier on the shoulders of Rooney
he is always used as a make shift B2B player in match where we dont see a lot of possession as he can covers a lot of ground as well as deliver some killer pass like he did to set up Welbeck in the last encounter
with afronman although subject to much criticism at least he manage to hold up ball at BM's territory, i personally think he played quite well in that match despite wasting possession for few occasions
but now Rooney has to do it all by himself, and carrying injury somemore sweat.gif

What do you guys think of Bebe? 9 goals out of 12 games for 2014 so far. Played as CF/Striker when other CF is out injured. Portuguese fans wanting him to be

in Brazil. Thoughts? I think he should at least be given a chance, but not to play as wingers. No no no sweat.gif As a striker, DM should frankenstein with him.

Different from the current crops of forwards. Tall, powerful, pace and has reputation for having powerful shots in him. Not saying he should start every game or

any game for that matter laugh.gif well, perhaps in games like LC he should be given chance. DM managed to do it with 60,000 Coleman. Look where that guy is

now. Who knows? Plus, if he turns out to be decent PL players, and surplus to requirement, at least United can demand a bit more money for him blush.gif
