time out, time out.

3RoD is a very stressful experience for everybody, even those with working sets are worried abt it. no point fighting among ourselves.

babyakuma, i see from ur sig ur a game machine "modder" urself, if u have any technical advise or knowledge can extend to this community, pls do so.

i'm still wondering if buying a cheap UPS or power/voltage regulator will help. of all the 3RoD cases here, the ones involving syuji, jaylike7 and chuah_ph is the most worrying cos they were so new - impossible that they were overheated and spoilt their solders within few weeks rclxub.gif rclxub.gif

same here. my 1st one cannot safe anymore so it's in my storeroom laugh.gif

anyways i'd rather get another xbox360 than PS3 or Wii. just my personal opinions smile.gif

notworthy.gif rclxms.gif notworthy.gif rclxms.gif

should put that in ur sig. then all those newbies coming in with their "is 360 worth to buy with the risk of 3RoD?", i'll refer them to ur sig thumbup.gif

/

on another topic, is anyone using a USB-powered laptop cooler with a horizontally placed 360? i was window shopping but see most laptop coollers are angled and not totally flat. not sure if its a good idea unsure.gif

Guys, not to add salt to the wounds, but I hope this thread is a lesson to all the potential buyers of the Xbox. I planned to purchase the 360 as well but after reading the horror threads on the 360. I bought so many consoles before, from the NES until the PS2, none of them give me any problems before and thank god i never had warrant even 1 of them.

I understand the frustration of the hassle, the agony and pain that we have to go through every time we go for a warranty(for other stuff). Looks like i have to check out the PS3 anyway sad.gif

But the first thing is, how come there are guys getting the units from overseas? I mean, if get from local dealers they give 1 year warranty right? Not from MS itself but from the dealers itself. If no 1 year warranty, sorry man i won't take the risk. Too risky, if unlucky, may just KO in a week! >1K stuff is a lot of money sad.gif
*
actually if u have relatives/fren at SGP or is a frequent business traveller, best get it direct in SGP. from what i heard, currently, courts mammoth SGP selling 2 yr extended warranty plan and harvey norman selling 5 yr extended warranty.

if u willing to wait, wait at least another 3 months to hear any confirmation of the 65nm processors. if they coming out 2008, then how? keep waiting? tongue.gif

worse come to worse, just buy a 360 (with ur heart & wallet accepting the risk of the unpredictable 3RoD) that way, u'll wont feel so worried and can always fall back to the trusty ps2 icon_rolleyes.gif

3RoD problem is really unpredictable, i've tried reading those victim stories on forums worldwide and cannot find any specific conditions or owner's fault that directly leads to 3RoD. someone here mention abt 15% rate (that is good enough for me) so place ur bets accordingly.

Hmm..anyone wanna organise the petition to Microsoft Malaysia, at least we do something about it..not hurt for trying. Maye we can have th elarge gathering at DJinn place with the present of media....this is the best way that I can think off, instead of blasting the MS in this forum.... Just my two cent..dont flame me..lol
*
haha, no need to petition MS Malaysia yet. i really believe their gaming division is still working on an official launch (maybe waiting for halo3 and the backup banhammer? tongue.gif)

grey importers should play by the rules set down by grey markets. right now, i donno how much the SGP distributer (issit ingram micro?) is making per unit by exporting their units to this country, but it would be nice if they announce a proper RMA procedures for grey importers who are not tampering/modding their sets. ppl should petition them instead. and yeah, time to invent better warranty stickers. the current ones are violated by pirates many months ago tongue.gif

^this was the case of starhub-sticker saga not long ago

the owner buy 100% ori, but sum1 shady could have messed with the sticker at starhub, now he fighting for his consumer rights

Shouldnt warranties be declared void once the said item is displaced outside of the country in which the warranty is issued? Unless the warranty is worldwide of course.

The current procedure of claiming warranty using friends and relatives in SG, for those Asian 360s bought , is with the fact that Ms Singapore close one eye on it, even though they probably know the console had left the country where the warranty resides.

omgod! u r indeed correct

haha, i guess ingram micro is off the hook. time to make some penpal friends with SGP gamers icon_rolleyes.gif we shall start a "adopt a Msian ori grey importer gamer" with those bob.sg gamers. just pinjam their SGP address and phone number when registering 360 S/N. hehe.

if the set is NTSC/J AsianSGP Asian and the S/N has not been registered into their database, u are eligible (as long as they still close 1 eye on "out of country" clause) u'll need a valid SGP address and phone number for registration.

I know it's OT, but honestly speaking, if you're getting a console for gaming, it's best to stick with 360 for now. PS3 sucks in terms of choice of games and it's online gaming experience. I'm using mine mainly as a BD player, so it's still awesome in that regard.
*
actually if 3RoD never exist, i 100% recommend ps2 gamers to upgrade to 360 liao (as long as they have no interest in BD movies) tongue.gif

ps2+360+old tv = perfect match (while waiting for hdtv to drop in price icon_rolleyes.gif)

Just curious. Can i manually remove the dvd-drive and replace it with another 360 dvd-drive? FYI both drive are orginal from a 360. I am thinking of getting spare parts from 3ROD victims and maybe i can solve my "Your Disc is Unreadable" problem.

Btw, i am using a 1st batch Japanese console so my dvd-drive is a Hitachi drive. Can i change it with a Samsung one?
*
its possible. all the tutorials are at the scene forum. for your specific case, messing with dvdrom firmware is 100% LEGAL! LoL. not really sure what causes the "Your Disc is Unreadable" problem, though.

but i think its better u change ur current hitachi drive with another (spare parts) hitachi drive icon_idea.gif

dun be sad. we've all been through this b4, almost all. very soon in a few weeks' time, you will enjoy the flashing displays of the red lights on your 360. you will subsequently be making calls to MS and making a trip down to funan with your heavy white elephant. you may even make repeated trips back to funan cos the replacement may not be perfect too.

but you will soon get used to this process and seeing the same punks at service hub, they will become your regular friends. but donch worry, just keep calling whenever your 360 breaks down, cos MS don't seem to care about your warranty period. since they donch give a damn about their QC too, just call complain abit, and they will replace.
that's the life of a 360 gamer
LoL. 3RoD brings the gamer community closer. next time after Msia official launch, can have organize official gathering/lepak session at service hub tongue.gif tongue.gif the trully sad part is after a year, error 0102 is still "unknown error". hmm, those QC engineers must be working very hard to identify and solve the problem.

Btw, just tested 1 hr yesterday, power brick upside down/terbalik. underneath put 2 piece of chinese chess checkers. i like this setup better icon_idea.gif

everybody knows whats Error 103 ?
sources : gamesindustry.biz

Wander how does the show goes.. intresting...
error 0103 also similar to 0102 - still "unknown error"

very interesting news rgd the BBC show, i believe EU consumer products have 2 yrs warranty by consumer law. not sure abt england though. england so blardy cold, still get random 3RoD?

RM1.5k divided by 500 hrs (~8 mths) is RM3 per hour.

actually, i've been toying this idea.

why dont ppl who buy NTSC/J Asian vDjinn (tongue.gif) dont go & register their S/N yet.

IF u r really unlucky and kena 3RoD, sell it to sgp'oreans at ebay.sg relatively cheap? top-up some funds and get another vDjinn set. the sgp'orean buyer can then just register the 3RoD, claim RMA and sell it off as 2nd hand (but under warranty) to a happy gamer there. i'm sure an entreprenurial sgp gamer or gameshop can make this work. LoL

why did i think of such a dirty tactic? read on ....

In an official statement issued to GamesIndustry.biz, Microsoft said that the "vast majority" of Xbox 360 owners have had an "outstanding experience" with the console.

But the platform holder went on to concede: "That being said, we have received a few isolated reports of consoles not working as expected.
"It's important to note that there is no systemic issue with Xbox 360 - each incident is unique and these customer inquiries are being handled on a case-by-case basis."

Microsoft has not revealed details of how many Xbox 360 units have been found faulty, but did state that the return rate is "significantly lower" than the CE industry average of between 3 and 5 per cent.
blardy PR! sell defective products mai sell it lor. don't have to make lies & coverup.

susah....
*
LoL, if a sgp'orean "entrepenuer" really want to cooperate, 20, 50 3RoDs also no problem. for each case, he registered S/N under new gamertag SGP3RoD0001, SGP3RoD0002.... SGP3RoD00nn tongue.gif tongue.gif

then suddenly in the database under Mr ""entrepenuer" address, got registered tens and tens of 360!! and he can always lepak with the service hub ppl and phone support ppl. Lol sure give some customer service ppl there a great laugh and a great lunch story. thumbup.gif

/
anyway kidding aside, i'm sure MS engineers and xbox consumers worldwide hope to finally say goodbye to 3RoD once they identify and corrected whatever manufacturing flaw(s) very soon

well, 360 only launched in march'06 in sgp, so all sets also they accept w/o questions. ofcos ler, theirs is a law-abiding and copyright-abiding society and country. even if MS officially extends their limited warranty to 2,3 yrs also no prob icon_rolleyes.gif

hate to say this but if and when 360 is officially launched here, our RMA process will be much much stricter and more verified, due to the presence of uncle ho and his nephews and fans tongue.gif tongue.gif

Btw...my previous post...I made a type. Its supposed to say... "IF my Xbox 3ROD...then I will..." tongue.gif

transplant the dvd-rom into an external case like the hd-dvd add-on plastic case. install a bigger & better heatsink for the gpu icon_idea.gif icon_idea.gif

maybe some 3rd party pc case company will sell better/bigger 360 cases for modders.

really sorry to hear ur loss.

actually, i was following this board since the 360 launch. really respect notworthy.gif u personally for supporting ori as much as u did. also rmb u always worrying abt ur launch set for so long.....

my thoughts

1. keep the dead set, mb some workshop might buy spareparts later on
2. if u dont use ur hotmail account linked to the xboxlive gold, consider selling ur account to a newcomer
3. consider it as a vaction lor, take a break and enjoy other games. still got plenty of good games on other platforms mah - ps2, xbox, wii, portables, ps3, etc
4. mb wait for the 65nm set or buy a 2nd hand set when ppl around here upgrade to elite
