So stay with the kit lens for a while? I cant play with the aperture though. Thats why thinking of these two lenses. Most of my friend used 50mm. But done a few research, from my point of view, photo produced by 35mm looks more tempting.  drool.gif  Thanks for the feedback.

or ask your friend bring 50mm (if can 35mm too) borrow you walk around and try use it so you can decide want to use or not.

You can play with aperture actually, just that AF-S lenses don't have aperture ring and the kit lens' aperture are too high to easily do bokeh.
50mm are more affordable, but I'd say 35mm is more functional, moreover on DX for full body shot.
So if you can afford it, go with 35mm. Probably around RM600 for 35mm f/1.8 DX.
Dunno about AF-S, but 50mm f/1.8D are usually below RM300.
*
you forget why G-version lens remove the aperture ring because camera body can control aperture under A or M mode. tongue.gif
bokek i think is subjective, more creamy bokeh doesn't means good photo. unsure.gif

aperture big big is just let more light come in the lens to help stable/faster in lower light shot haha. XD
of course bokeh also can consider la.

and alsk kit lens can produce a decent bokeh if you know control the distance too laugh.gif

right sifu?

Oops. What I was trying to say before is that my kit lens cant be lower as 35mm lens. Correct me if I am wrong. Anyway, I will try to use my kit lens for the moment. Still long way to go.  nod.gif

hmm back to root question, what makes you to think to get 35/50mm prime lens? brows.gif

aside aperture of course prime lens can get as low as f/1.8...

just because you hear your friend own that lens? hmm.gif

Any suggestions on other lens? I love to try capture "milky way" also. Still learning. The scariest about milky way photo, is that you have to go to a place which is completely dark.   sweat.gif
Its not ghost that I scare the most, but the local people. Local crime rate is rising. Lel.

i duno, i prefer say you better stick it first then decide later, at least go borrow your friend's one play it first then see need to waste your moneh or not haha

QUOTE(Mussolini @ Sep 12 2014, 01:59 PM)
Hi sifus, wanna ask between 35mm and 50mm lens. Which one is the more preferable, practical lens to get?

fyi, im a student with small budget, planning to get a 2nd hand lens if possible. Currently using a D5100 with the 18-55mm kit lens for almost 3 years now. Mostly experimenting various styles of photography (landscape, portrait, macro, normal everyday shooting)

Any nikkor or non-nikkor lens to recommend? preferably below RM750. thanks

that is why butcher farm close from public instead showing how they slit cow's throat in public.
it is better to put a gore warning outside the spoiler to warn people first. smile.gif

If you are afraid of daddy long-legged spiders, then you are going to be terrified by these arachnids!

Many harvestmen may look like much larger versions of daddy long-legged spiders we have at home, but they are not considered as spiders due to the lack of a true thorax and abdomen.

Harvestmen are usually omnivores and can be found in moist, shaded areas of parks or forests.

buy CD cover sticker, design it with CD cover template, google can do it, then you maybe need to buy more than 1 to test print.
