thanks wkwong91, is it advisable to bring a fixed focal lense? I saw some videos on youtube and they recommend 50mm as well. I guess most of my photos are towards street photography. biggrin.gif

50 or 35mm, after you use this your eye tend to be look as "whole" instead of look further away as usual XD
or you can turn your kit lens to 35/50 mm and practice it first tongue.gif

Why need 2 built in motors when only 1 motors needed for autofocus lol.
My main concern in lenses are affordability,  sharpness later

you forget AF-S focus speed is faster a lot. (D70s user with AF-S lens and AF lens before nod.gif laugh.gif )

Seems like my question will keep on derailing.  sweat.gif
Again, anyone can list me AF lenses that does not have built-in motor?
*
they are not cheap lol...

here can help you to read lens got built in motor or not for nikkor lens laugh.gif
https://support.nikonusa.com/app/answers/de...kkor-lens-terms

i think any lens with AF word is auto focus, AF-S is with the silent wave motor

anyway, if you want to find cheaper lens because of no-auto focus motor, giving it up. it is hard to find lol... save more money and get a 2nd hand AFS motor lens is way easier and time saving lol. not to mention only few lens that area not AFS and good enough to resell in market?

anyway it is better you list down your requirement to ask sifu here to narrow down searching lens. wink.gif

Its because of its rare that I need a list of it. the list should be a lot shorter than a list of motorised lenses.
I don't like to narrow my scope, that's why affordability is a main concern.
As of now I cannot afford any motorised lens.
@alpha001 , I never mention it to be nikon lens lol

@jchue73 Thank you very much, bro  thumbup.gif

eh i thought AFD (some) will be more expensive because vintage lens? unsure.gif

Nikon Pro bodies have built-in screw driver type motor to AF on motorless AF-D lenses.

Once you put on AF-S type lenses, those Nikon Pro bodies will just use the built-in AF-S motor on these lenses to AF.

AF-D lenses are still quite ok if you put them on older sensors like the D90. But you can see that it has reached it's limit once you put on FX sensor like the D800/D800E which case the newer AF-S lenses have better micro resolving capability.

Errr... ragnarokB2 asked for A and you give Z.  sweat.gif
*
ehh you already explain why AFS is better than AFD. plus in previous post he said can't afford a motorized lens because of expensive ?
i duno he really mean that or what but i think many people here will agree getting G version is better than D version in general right? for best bang of the buck for all over performance of the lens.

so i better comment like "give it up, save more money, lesser hassle to find D version lens because you want save money, how about saving more money a bit then get a better value lens and time saving in case resell the lens in future"? unsure.gif

buy 24-70mm f/2.8 , good enough.

if you feel expensive, that's means you still good with your current lens and yea, no need change la haha. whistling.gif

(i'm just joking unsure.gif )

50mm is not preferable for some of us, usually is 35mm f1.8 because of its wider field of view although there is slightly less bokeh-ness at wide open compare to 50mm

1. shoot with your kit lens till you know what you need
2. kit lens, your 18-140 or 18-55 is good enough, easy to get hyperfocal which save you from blur video
50mm on DX is 75mm (50 x 1.5) while 35mm on DX is 52.5mm (35 x 1.5), so for this kind of event i will say 35mm f1.8 is more suitable, cant get full body shot, only half-body unless shoot from high/low angle

but canon user might say 50mm is better than 35mm whistling.gif
good enough only? then what is the best? laugh.gif

add 1 more 70-200mm then best brows.gif

not sure off topic or not, because i can't find eyewear thread....

is that any different for nikon lens and hoya lens for eyewear? (i just bought Hoya lens for spec and cost me 600 for my eyes) unsure.gif

Hey guys. I'm new here. I'm using D7000 with kit lens. I'm still in the beginner level. Currently using 18-105mm lens. I've done few research on the 35mm and 50mm lens. Is it advisable to buy new lens, since I'm still in the learning progress? I'm more into portrait and landscapes. Thanks!
*
the only advise i can say is turn your kit lens to 35 and 50mm and look around see it fit or not so you can nail down which focal length you want.

as for aperture it can't be done, but you can go times square nikon center and ask the people there to play with the lens. FOC brows.gif

for portrait people prefer use 50mm on DX becaues it is around 75mm (or 85mm prime) which many sifu using for that.
