apart from using ketapang leaves,i read that driftwood and peat can also be used to simulate Black water. i wonder how to use them since i dont have ketapang leaves, but i already do have driftwoods and peat. anyone knows how?

how do you guys change the water of ur bettas? i have trouble siphoning the water out since my gravel cleaner is just too big. normal i scoop the betta out and then throw out the water..
another thing, is it necessary to acclimatize the betta each time during water change?

QUOTE(jaspery27 @ Feb 25 2007, 01:50 AM) hermm dont want to put a cover forever, tank will look ugly (unless i DIY a proper cover, since LFS dont sell covers for this size of tank). dun want also to keep water level low, will befit the purpose of having a tank of that size. dunno where to get ketapang leaf. wanted to ask some from yewlin when he posted the fish but forgot. currently my VT is the new tenant of that "bungalow" Pictures of my butterfly plakat Attached thumbnail(s)

My betta wont eat. He's been like this nearly a week now. Looks so skinny now. Apart from being really skinny, he does not show any sign of disease. I think hes under a lot of stress. Im not sure about this but i think he started behaving like this after i accidently siphoned out too much water to the point that he could not move and breath. Here's a picture. It kills me to see him this skinny. Attached thumbnail(s)

anyone have any experience with mixing betta with neon tetras, harlequin resboras, otos and corydoras? i am confident that these fishes will not harass the betta. but im not sure about the other way around. fishes will long fins/tails and other labyrinths i know definitely no-no (guppies, gouramis, etc) but what about peaceful shortfins?

Wanna ask, how long is the lifespan of a betta. Ive had my better for just over a year now. dunno how old was he when i bought him. thing is, nowadays he seems to like just 'sit' at the bottom of the tank or on some stones in the tank. he's eating normally whenever i feed him.
how do i know that hes already of old age? any ways to measure? or maybe he's just sick. apart from the previous behaviour, he doenst look out of the ordinary.

My first ever betta just died yesterday. So sad. Dunno how old he is but have been with me for more than a year. Guess it was his time. . Still remember in the earlier days, when he got fin rot and i treated him back to health.
