Hello Guys.
I just thought of something. Ramadhan is just around the corner. After ramadhan will be hari raya. And we know what that means... BALIK KAMPUNG!!! rclxm9.gif
I have had my betta for half a year now and has never left him unattended. Ill be going back to batu pahat/kluang this raya (which is 3 hours drive from bangi) for one whole week. Do you guys bring along your bettas when going away for a long period of time or do you guys hand them over to someone else for safekeeping? I prefer to bring him along but im afraid he could not survive the 3 hour journey (heat and all) sweat.gif

Lol, how many days u balik kampung? U feed nicely on the week before you go home, everyday feed till he gemuk.
Then he can tahan up to 2 weeks. smile.gif
*
ill be going at most one week i think. err is your method proven? no health implications? blink.gif
how extra do you feed them? im afraid i give too much than become too obess and then die like my friend's betta (sad story, someone accidently/purposely/unintentionally poured a whole lot of pellets into his betta bowl at his office. by the time he came back after his one day leave, the betta already looked like a goldfish very gemuk. after one week died one sad.gif . till this day still dont know the culprit)

Oh yes they would.... But it was either that or placing them in individual cookie jars, also with just quarter volume water, in an empty basin... But, 300 fish, cannot lar...

Oh ya, forgot to add, about 250 like that were from the community and fry tank, so they are ok if together.. Of course community tank one pail, and the fry tank ones another pail la...  biggrin.gif So only the 50 odd jarred ones were more of a worry.... tongue.gif
*
wooo 300 bettas, thats quite a lot. very successfull breeder

i feel comfortable now that i know you guys have experienced travelling with your bettas and/or leaving them unattended biggrin.gif tx thumbup.gif

how about those use in cooking one & also those which are like those sugar size one? how much for a bottle of aqua salt?
*
just use aqua salt. safer plus cheap. i bought one big bottle last year and am still using untill today (i have 4 aquariums, one fish bowl, one big flower pot) cost less than rm5 i think. there are more expensive types but those are concentrated and have to calculate accurately.

my betta
http://sayasebuk.multiply.com/photos/album/10
have him in a fish bowl with some gravel and jave moss. had him for 6 months now. bought for rm1.50 at jalan pasar, pudu.

btw, is it ok to change full water and replace with tap water? i only change 50% with aquarium water from my tropical planted aquarium. afraid of too many chemical fluctations from tap water.

wanna ask something - do bettas mix well with other fishes (non-betta) or things such as crayfish or crabs in the same aquarium?
*
QUOTE(jaswwp @ Oct 2 2006, 11:53 AM)
I heard bettas can live with corydoras and plecos. In some shops I see them mixing female bettas with guppies and other tropical fish also, but not sure advisable or not. Crayfish better not, later your betta no more tail.
*
female bettas can mix with any normal community fish
male bettas, do not mix with fish that will nip their fins, or do not mix with other fishes with long/fancy fins (such as angel & guppies) or else the bettas will attack. apart from that, do not mix with fish that resembles bettas

but then again, how do u actually determine whether it's a male or female? females have shorter tails or something?
*
all the fancy2 tail one are males (combtail, veiltailed, half moon etc). females have very simple tails and fins.

wanna ask how u all change the water? change all or juz a bit? last time i put in a small tank then need change every 2-3 days ler....
*
i change once a week 50% only. take water from my planted aquarium. my planted aquarium on the other hand, i use aged, dechlorinated, salted water (have one big tong). BTW, my betta is in a small fish bowl only. but i put in gravel (for bacteria culture) and java moss (to help reduce the ammonia in the water)

QUOTE(freshyyf @ Oct 26 2006, 11:53 AM)
Aged water topic - I actually did not age my water! Change 100 %, using tap water which is after gone through the filter. No problem at all to my fishes (2 females and 2 males). For the HM I really like, I add some drops of 'black water', he seems more active.

Jit, are you selling those in the pictures??? If yes, how much? Let me have some idea to save my money, haha. Also, how old are you?
*
filtered water of course safe for fish. dont know about minerals though

i've had my betta for nearly a year now without using any ketapang leaves/ph down, black water thingy etc. i was just thinking maybe if there are any ketapang trees around my area, i can test to see if my betta likes them in the water. in other words, i dont want to spend money one hehe

Hi guys, any of you go to this shop (see the websites) before in One Utama? I found it in Aquafair website. If anybody went before, how is the quality of their betta? I emailed them about their price, about RM 50 - 100. Not sure about quality, hope someone can give comments.

*
i've been to their shop, but i cant remember them having any bettas for display. only green turtles, hermit crab, some marine fish and their eco-magic thingy. their shop is very2 small. maybe have to go HQ if want to see their bettas

Strange then, their website mostly advertises betta. May be the Cheras head office has more bettas. Do let me know if any of you go there before. Though, they said it is not possible to do online order to other states.
*
i remembered someone in this forum said he used to work in the shop at 1 utama and really2 do not recommend it. poor service, cheat or something. cant really remember

QUOTE(evildonkey @ Dec 27 2006, 12:56 PM)
Usually female can be distinguished by the white dot underneath their belly and they shows vertical stripes while flaring when they are ready to breed...wild bettas on the other hand, you'll have to check out which strains are you planning to keep and google for more info on how to sex them because there's other traits that needed to be checked that isn't neccessary in sexing show betta...there's always a general rule though that is the male usually shows better colouring compared to female when they are in breeding mood.
*
anyone with pictures of a male veiltail and a femal veiltail for sex comparison?
and do females make bubblenests? i thought only males do that. My friend just bought some female bettas (claimed by the LFS). He said that he did notice a white dot underneath the belly, but the bettas were making bubbles rclxub.gif
