actually, guppy tank comes in various sizes depending on price. we're refering to those small clear hard-plastic aquarium which they sell in your LFS for about RM3.50 - RM5.50.
*
hahahha! later he'll ask you what is LFS.
LFS = Local Fish shop

eh, your babies look like got red wash lah.
All also like that?

QUOTE(inv @ May 21 2007, 03:17 PM)
sadly, yea... and i think i got only 1 male from the blue batch. the dad's anal and claudal fin got a bit of red wash. from the pic i posted, the red wash in the claudal is really apparent because the colour has not fully developed (there) yet...

tempted of getting a good show quality blue hm/hmpk male as a shortcut...
*
don't say like that...
getting a good betta isn't a shortcut.
it's improving where others have left off. smile.gif

anyway, i'm totally for getting a good betta.
that's why i'm still sourcing.

icon_question.gif hi, is there any medicien to my CT betta, im think he loosing his tail lah cry.gif ..btw im in hulu klang area...tq
*
you can get fin rot medicine from any local fish shop.
but if you can get melafix, it's even better.

i think the best thing you can do now is make a 100% water change.
Clean out the tank too cos it's probably contaminated.
Add aquarium salt.

a lot of debate is going on about the benefit of aquarium salt. if you can get a peace of mind from putting aquarium salt then go ahead and use it.
*
aquarium salt helps the fish produce a coat of slime over their body so they don't get diseases as easily.

but some people add salt, ketapang, stress coat, etc. all in one tank.

QUOTE(alkin @ Aug 15 2007, 06:19 PM)
yewlin, you need to tell the newbies and frens that if you give FOC bettas, they might not be good ones since the fish is not valuable. Bettas are actually not valuable even a ringgit. Its the maintenance and hardwork to keep the fish in shape that makes it worthy. The market is there Yewlin......you need to find it. God help those who helped themselves! If the customer says that he can get the RED HM at RM6 a piece, let him get it from the LFS, no point arguing with them. This kind of customers are brainless freaks talking all bullshit. There is no such thing like LFS's bettas can be better quality than hobbyist's betta. U just tell them that LFS bettas are rojak fish, hobbyist's bettas are pure quality fish. There is no point for you to quit if the price drops, unless you have some other thing to settle. For hardcore hobbyist, if the price drops to RM10/ HM or even how busy your schedule is, there is still time to change water and feed our fish to continue the hobby. I've sacrifice a lot of things and I've been changing water late at night 9-11pm lately just for the sake of the hobby! Do reconsider your decision. blink.gif
*
well said, alkin.
the hobby cannot afford to lose you lah yew lin.

anyway, just a story about LFS, to make you happier.
I went to the small stall in a shopping mall.
I asked him what fish is this (I knew what it was) and he told me it's a halfmoon.
I said, 'wah! halfmoon ar? can see him 'open up' (flare lah. didn't want to appear to know about bettas). I heard halfmoon very rare lah. must be expensive. How much ar?'

He said 'RM60'
Then I said, 'Eh, this is not a halfmoon lah. It's a super delta only. Where got so expensive? Some more, got red wash.'

Then he knew I know about bettas.
His explanation was, 'oh. you're right. but most customers don't know about other types of betta. So I tell them it's halfmoon lah'

Imagine, people like that, irresponsible sellers.

So in your case, yewlin, maybe the LFS showed him a SD and he thought it was a halfmoon.

yewlin, if you're a newbie then I'm a sperm lah. lol.

why don't you just tell the fella that female bettas also fight, especially in small containers?

don't need to give face one, brader.
you are one of the sifus.

FYI, breeders normally don't sell their females cheap.
in fact, most times females cost more than the male.
add to the fact that females pass down more genes to the spawn (ie. fish will take on more of mothers good/bad genes), getting a good one is paramount if you want to breed bettas.

Ming Han,

Actually from my observation of my colleagues betta (they decorate the tank with plants, pebbles and ornaments), the betta is more active and somehow happier than our empty jars.

I wish I could give them that luxury but imagine the trouble during WC!

So to the newbie: if you want to decorate, go ahead. But if you have many bettas (like 20 plus), you will know what I mean about trouble during WC.

cirebon,

if you use seachem, don't need to age your water already.
Seachem is a good and expensive water conditioner.
Just put 1 drop into your jar and you can put your betta in 5 minutes.

There is also no hard and fast rule about aging water, if you want to do it.
Some people soak the ketapang for a few hours, some leave it in the entire time.
What I normally do is leave it in. If it grows moldy, I throw everything away and do a complete WC.
Some people add salt, some people don't.
Some people use special ingredients, some people don't.
Some people age a minimum of 2 days, some people age a minimum of 1.

The best thing I learnt from another hobbyist is this:
Don't become a slave to your betta. They are there for your enjoyment. Do whatever that is most convenient for you.

So in short, whatever makes you happy, can already.

as far as I know, Malaysia's water only has chlorine and no chloramine.
I tried finding the info on the net but little results.
Do you know for sure, ynneb?
If it is true, I'm going to add seachem to my aged water.

the pea idea is simple.
SBD is caused by an imbalance to the swimbladder, normally caused by too much food, not enough poop.
So the pea helps the betta poo.
I tried feeding peas before. The entire poop comes out green.

yeah, one drop of seachem treats about 5litres of water or something like that.
and yes, with seachem, you don't need to age the water anymore to get rid of chlorine and chloramine.

the pea has to be boiled to soften it.
Then, you peel off the skin and only take a small pinch (size of a pellet) of the pea.
Mash it with your fingers to soften the pea.
Then feed that to your betta.
Don't overfeed yeah!

But I don't know why you want to do it if your betta doesn't have constipation.
btw, not all bettas will eat it yeah.

Fellow Bettards  and Bettalins!

Quick questions :

1) Frozen Blooworms safe to feed bettas everyday?

2) Are there any breeders in Setapak?

3) Can male bettas Change color as fast as a female? I think i have a male betta that looks  like a female and it builds a bloody good bubble nest.
*
1) Yes, as long as the stock is still fresh and red. Throw away when brown or black.

2) Dunno.

3) If you mean it becomes pale and brownish, yes. That is caused by stress. Like you suddenly shocked him.
