it's just that we tend to equate them with humans.
just make sure you give the fella fresh change of water before you leave.

QUOTE(ryant3 @ Aug 11 2008, 07:15 PM) and i don't recall those who are almost 180 degree being called delta tail cos AFAIK delta tails don't open even close to 180 degree. so i did a little check and here's what i found.... http://www.aquaticcommunity.com/bettafish/tailfinforms.php QUOTE Super Delta Tail Betta This form is also known as Super Delta, SDT, or HMx. It is basically an enhanced version of the standard Delta Tail, and some are just shy of being full HM. This is a very beautiful tail, and often more pleasant to have than HM, since there are not as many worries about the tail collapsing, or the fish having difficulty in swimming and spawning, or blowing fins. They are also available much more reasonably than true HM, and will usually produce some HM offspring if they come from a HM spawn. QUOTE Halfmoon Betta The Halfmoon (or HM) is the hottest tail form going today, and with good reason. These guys look great even when not flaring, and when the do flare the effect is astounding; a huge tail that spreads straight up and straight down, full dorsal, and symmetrical anal fin. They are quite an accomplishment in Betta form. Specifically, a halfmoon Betta must have a caudal where both ends are exactly 180 degrees apart or more, spreading towards the front. Caudal edges have to be straight or curving outwards, and not bending inwards. There are a few important things to strive for when breeding for a Halfmoon betta: 1.) Symmetry - the body line that cuts and seperates the caudal into half. 2.) Balance - the ability to draw an arc that begins from the caudal and encompasses the dorsal and anal without hitting a snag. 3.) 180 degree caudal with straight and crisp edges. anyway, I'm tired of keeping crowns and HM - miss my water change and that's it, curls come in. so nowadays if ever i go betta again, I'll go HMPK or PK. but yes, it was my mistake on SOD's betta - Delta Tail it is....... QUOTE(kevinyong84 @ Aug 19 2008, 03:07 PM) hehe. got answer at BSM already huh?anyway, just to share here........... 1. it has to be a fish without flowing fin, or else the betta would attack it. eg. guppy. 2. it has to be a fish that's not prone to fin-nipping. eg tiger barb. i kept betta in 2ft / 3ft tank before. so big the fella donno what to do. i also kept a betta with cichlid before. they lived fine. the cichlid didn't treat him as food and the cichlids don't have flowing fin to be a target. what cichlid? i can't remember. i kept so many types of cichlid before. put with wrong type of cichlid, anything that fits the mouth = food. i'm thinking to revive my tiny tanks again. i miss my betta. |

(some people call it Apollo). ranchu? no way man, they dirty the tank like silly. i prefer ryukin or oranda over ranchu any day. |

one thing about betta la, no worth you spend the $$$ on them unless you are going to do breeding and have the commitment to do so.
for me, my RM 3 types also I'm happy already. |

a lot of people keep betta for the tail.
actually for me la. i keep them more for their character. put them in a bigger tank and see how they move around and explore the place, it's very interesting. if not also when you come near, the fella will come to you like say "hello" then go back doing his things. |

aiyah last time Pet Wonderland MV also selling bettas like taufufah. as in put them in long and small plastic bag tube, stacked up in a tray.
same goes to those miniature decorative tank, totally not suitable for fish. yet you see people put tetra and guppies in there. generally la, pet selling shops are in for the $$$. not the pet care. |
