So guys anymore feed back on the new update??
*
1) Phone UI is smooth now. The sudden lags seems to have been fixed.
2) Battery life better a bit, but then again I'm using back Cortana now. At least it's around 4 - 5 % drain per hour now, not the crazy 8% drain previously.
3) Fixed my WiFi connection issue, this result may vary among ppl.
4) Games seems to be smoother also, but still not completely smooth like in WP8.0

Updated to 8.1 for the first time yesterday. Today the idle battery drain is about 1%. Looks good without Cortana enabled yet.

I feel that IE load faster. Adobe reader doesn't work. Microsoft PDF reader works fine though.
*
Don't enable Cortana if you don't need it laugh.gif

Yes IE is much faster. Odd Adobe Reader works fine on my phone.

Set it at settings/notification
*
I think he not using WP8.1? Weirdly even though u can set notification sounds to something else now inside Whatsapp, u can't select custom ringtones in there.

QUOTE(RoxyMunky @ May 31 2014, 01:31 PM)
The new whatsapp is much more stable than before..

But I still couldn't access my photos stored on sd card...
*
Weird, all my picture folders in my SD card shows up when I wanna share a pic in Whatsapp now. Even the 'Other Pictures' that doesn't exist shows up. Haha!

Honestly this update is really good, it's way more stable, now can easily load those long msg history without crashing.

i was thinking that too but based on my experienced with lumia 720.. i need to wait the updates(Lumia Black) available in Malaysia even i changed my region to US..
*
Phone updates are tied to your phone product code, not region settings in your phone. So yes, changing region does nothing to help.

QUOTE(mf_yamato @ Jun 6 2014, 04:06 PM)
new 8.1 update have some bug...
like, date and time messed up each after every soft reset...
battey still not calibrate well enough
*
Soft reset? U mean u hold Volume Down + Power for 8 secs? That always mess up date & time, ever since WP8.0. Nothing new ah.

Latest update seems to have solved all my battery issues. Phone back to normal like WP8.0 power drain. rclxms.gif

nope.. it's new to me...
before the latest update, mine always be the same time and date.. but not this time...
my battery life hasn't turned normal yet
*
Very interesting on your time & date still the same after a soft reset...

Perhaps it has something to do with which firmware your phone came originally. Just a theory lah haha no real idea why yours so nice is like that. I know time & date getting reset is normal since it's part of the troubleshooting FAQ that you adjust back time to correct date & time after doing a soft reset.

QUOTE(evilpuppy @ Jun 6 2014, 07:06 PM)
Only happen on WP8 and believe that's the software completion Date & Time before M$ roll out offical update, meaning every time you soft reset hold Vol + Power your date & time will revert back to it originate date of completion of firmware. am i right?

Windows Phone 7 doesn't have this time error after soft reset sweat.gif
*
Yap this is my experience also.

oh yeah...i only got the nokia camera installed..will install the nokia camera beta app smile.gif
*
You can use Nokia Camera app as well, but the beta have a little extra stuff. Anyway, if I'm not mistaken, the pic you see in photos or any app that can load the camera roll will always show just the 5MP version. The only time you're given the 16MP/19MP one is when you do a 'Reframe' with Nokia Camera app.

I was using Chronos Calendar for quite some time until I started using WP8.1. Now I'm using the stock calendar app in WP8.1 since it's actually pretty good now. Chronos Calendar is a paid app but it has gone free a couple of times, I got it when it was free.

thought this is only applicable to AT&T version of the Lumia 1520 right?

Nope, it applies to ALL phones using Dev Preview. So either wait more or downgrade to WP8.0. This leaves a bad taste in my mouth..... mad.gif

That's Update 1, it doesn't include Lumia Cyan update. So we still don't get improvements in camera for eg.

QUOTE(DoomerX @ Jul 30 2014, 04:23 PM)
Wana ask for those who updated to official Lumia Cyan. Is there any big difference between the 8.1 DevPrev and Cyan? If not much differences, why took them so long to roll out the update across all models (only few models receiving the updates for now).

Plus, Microsoft already planned to roll out Update 1 for Windows Phone 8.1 PrevDev starting next week.
*
Lumia Cyan includes additional firmware drivers & updates that Nokia/Microsoft Devices put in on top of WP8.1. It needs testing hence the delay.

anyone tried using XiaoNa (Chinese Cortana)?
It can recognize our mandarin quite well, almost 99% of accuracy for me at least.... better than my poor sucking english... but one issue is that XiaoNa is way TOO CUSTOMIZED for China market already... so almost every question I asked will only get back with BING result. It can't even pull information like "Nearest McDonald" from Tripadvisor and Foursquare...
So ended up revert back to US Cortana again.
*
They already mentioned Xiao Na is specially tailored for China only. tongue.gif

Anyway, I LOVE the Live Folders! The fact that Live Tiles still update inside the folder, then u can arrange it any way u like inside the folder as well. Then if u use the medium or wide tile for the folder, it dynamically cycles to show u latest live tile update inside the folder. Wow mind blown!!! Sorry iOS & Android, your folders r freaking boring! Hahahaha!

wow... just noted there new options under the Storage Sense that allow us to move apps into SD Card... included the Nokia Camera also can be move??? let me try and see how it go... brows.gif
*
Yeap, any app that shows up in the list can be moved. Nokia Camera is an app too hehe. Anyway, putting apps on SD Card might mean launching your app have delay if your SD Card read speed is not fast enough. I've been moving apps to & from SD Card when needed with Storage Sense. Like when I need more space in SD card for video recording in a hurry.

Done update!!

Btw mine took less than an hour using my friend's wifi (hehe)

How bout you guys?
*
How long update takes doesn't really mean much in my opinion. For me, I have no idea how long it took since I started the install process right b4 I went to sleep around 1am then checked on it at 6am. As long as the new features show up then you're good biggrin.gif

Guys here is some solution for our super sensitive touch
http://www.wpcentral.com/possible-fix-lumi...-flexing-screen
*
After trying this for few days I can confirm this DOES fix it. So yes don't put the phone in your front pocket faced down. If you do put your phone that way like me, when you have phantom clicks, just lock the phone & press lightly on both ends of the display. At least now I realise why most of the time I don't get the phantom clicks as I leave my phone facing up on table most of the time.

QUOTE(sklchan @ Aug 11 2014, 01:18 AM)
anyone on WP8.1 some confirmation needed:

1. Please check on the Photo Hub the random background images still showing or not? mine just pure black background

2. same goes to People Hub, no more random images background which available at WP8.0

Need this info as it might be only me which if later confirmed it's not Hard Reseting after the update that causing the failures... hmm.gif
*
Yes this is correct, it's the new WP8.1 standard for Photo Hub, People Hub & Store Hub, in case you didn't notice Store also changed to that.

thanks for the confirmation smile.gif

this is really a bad move, all those lovely lumia UI gone just like that...  doh.gif  shakehead.gif
*
Yeah a lot of ppl complained bout it. It's not really Lumia UI, it's the Metro Landscape Panorama view that lost the background pic function. Lets see if we can complain loud enough to make MS put it back.

I've been using the Nokia Wireless charging stand since I got my L1520 in Dec 2013 & can honestly say I don't see any battery degrading issues with leaving my phone on the wireless charger from the time I sleep to time I wake up. So your worries of overcharging the battery are misplaced. Yes phones older than 2 years all have this overcharging will kill battery issue. Heck I think even current low & medium end phones still might suffer from it. But probably not the high end phones which from feedback seems to have the proper circuitry to stop charging when battery is full.

The phantom tap issue seem resolved with this bending method... Of cause be careful while you bend it so your screen won't crack in the process... nod.gif
*
Haha I don't think that easy to crack the screen lah. Also, you are supposed to only push the top & bottom of the screens lightly only. Not use lots of force brows.gif
