Lumia Denim update

As each region needs to go through it's own authorization it's not as simple as see just product code of the Lumia 1520. Since most of us bought it unlocked here also, not sure the hold out is with Microsoft or carrier. But I guess they wanna be safe so perhaps they still do send to carrier to test.

Just wait lah. I don't see any SE Asia countries got the update also so no choice just wait. Anyway, phantom touch I doubt can fix with firmware, if can they already done it long time ago. As for your Internet Explorer suck your battery issue, I'm not sure what is wrong with your phone one that.

Well, the phantom touch is a hardware physical contact issue which is why it can't really be solved with firmware. Oh, so basically having a white background is eating battery life on your Lumia 1020 which is correct since that phone is using AMOLED. Lumia 1520 is using LED screen which technically won't get any benefits with black background. Anyway Internet Explorer have a reader mode where u can set the background to all black to achieve this since WP8.1.

The main power draw of LCD screen is the backlight which is absent on AMOLED screen. So if you do feel your Lumia 1520 is eating too much power, you can try decrease the screen brightness. This probably explains why I do not see that power drain you complaining about as my screen brightness is usually low. I don't do my reading in a bright room

But I do a lot of reading on my phone. In fact, I probably do 80% of my articles reading on my phone. Also, reader mode is actually very useful for reading long articles. Anyway, since Windows 10 is coming to our phones, probably need to check see what interesting features are implemented in the new Spartan browser. Also if I remember they do have a uservoice forum so you can go there ask new feature & get ppl to vote for it to be implemented.

With Spartan browser sure will improve hehe. Well I don't think they will allow 3rd party browser in future also, will be like current way, 3rd party browser UI then interface with Spartan as browsing engine. Opera Mini & Surfy is quite good ah currently.

Denim update? Don't know oh. But Lumia 930 just got approved today so hopefully very soon lah. But honestly I rather not put high hope, rather be surprised. Microsoft is working worse than tortoise with Denim....

Mine is on Automatic also. But I set it to Low 1st, then enable Automatic, it's an old trick which causes the screen to start at low brightness 1st then adjust as needed to lighting conditions.

Noticed a few bugs:

1) Camera auto focus seems to be slower, also hunts for focus a bit too much.

2) Phone rotation sensitivity has become horrible, takes 2 seconds to recognise I've change phone orientation.

3) Battery Saver real time live tile seems a bit sot, not updating real time all the time now.


Apart from that, I just love how fast Lumia Camera starts now. Also thankfully they didn't really mess with the colour saturation processing. I was a bit worried after testing my wife's Lumia 830 that Microsoft has shifted their colour saturation algorithms all to more saturated instead of neutral. Rich capture is really cool to test but not practical in all situations, worse is the amount of space it seems to use up since it's saving multiple images. I haven't tested 4K video as I was running low on space on my SD card.

Battery life is way too early to tell bro. Didn't notice any difference in playing games, then again I haven't played all my games yet haha. I think I can give better feedback tomorrow.

As I've been using Developer Preview all this while, didn't see anything new in Internet Explorer after this latest update. Wasn't expecting any also.

Rich Image can be tuned, just go edit the pic, choose a preset or do manual adjustment with slider. Pretty neat lah to be able to adjust that way. Hey Cortana not meant to be used in noisy environment haha. Heck I was having big issue trying to train it when my place wasn't quiet.

After 24 hours here's my feedback:

1) If you noticed weird behaviour like phone eating more battery, live tile not working, off your phone for 5 mins then switch it back on. This fixed battery saver Live tile & also some power draining behaviour.

2) There's no difference I noticed with gaming performance or power draining. Overall use seems to have slightly improved in terms of smoothness from Developer preview.

3) Finally video recording have manual focus while recording!!! That took them long enough. My issue with auto focus lag seems to have disappeared also. Overall very satisfied with Lumia Camera though it did crash on me once when reviewing video.

4) Rotation lag is irritating me, 2 seconds to detect I've changed phone orientation. How did that get pass QC? Then motion data is dead. So yeah, Microsoft have to fix some pretty big bugs ASAP.

I haven't seen a 128GB here so no. Also will cost a bomb here too.

Are you sure? Try loading Lumia Camera, take a few pics, exit camera, go into settings, change your phone orientation.

Unfortunately the rotation bug keeps coming back after a day for me. So now it has become a daily routine to restart the phone

Yes I've noticed orientation issues on pictures as well. Probably due to the fact the gyroscope sot.

Mine is take portrait become landscape when viewed outside of phone. All my landscape pics are fine. I think this is because of the Lumia Camera linking gyroscope & OIS system a bit wrong resulting in wrong values come out, probably the OIS values are being fed back to OS instead of the gyroscope. I didn't notice the rotation issue on Lumia 830, but that's probably cause I don't use it all the time, it's my wife's phone after all haha.

My Lumia 1520 also have this issue. Microsoft oh microsoft.....

But the most annoying thing is still the gyroscope sot, nothing can do but restart phone else games I wanna play that uses it also can't play. Really

Any racing games that uses gyro to steer, Spiderman Unlimited (only the sections that use gyro like crawling on the wall, free falling). You try the games AFTER u used Lumia Camera, then you'll see what I mean.
