Your windows mixer can do that, if there's "Stereo Mix" option

How about Audacity ?I notice when I'm doing a project (recording a midi file in Winamp & later convert into mp3), there is a pop-up sound. When I playback that mp3, the pop up sound also appear in it.

I think you turned on the stereo mix option

It will record whatever is output to your speaker.

After enabling it, open your sound recorder and the recording process will start.

Microsoft sound recorder has duration limitation, better try other alternative like Audacity or something.

i would recommend MP3MyMP3 2.0 ..
no time limitation..for source, you can just set it within the program itself like microphone, stereo mix etc..

I'm sure this has been discussed many times..
One of the best free & open source programs would be Audacity, imo. Creative mediasource does work, of course.

I use Steinberg Cubase SX and Wavelab for my recording work though, but it isn't free..

If you're aiming for quality, do not use anything which records in mp3 quality. Stick to 16/44.1 wav or better. I in fact record everything at 24bit/48kHz...

I still suggest audacity if you're going to be using the normal wave I/O as opposed to ASIO...

But it doesn't really sound as if you're doing anything of such great need or that you have a mic worth recording at that quality, so I guess it doesn't really matter...

The mixer only last 60 seconds.
How to make sure that it reached 5 minutes or more?

Also, after choosing all the Stereo Mix, Mic Volume and Line In, just play
the audio we wanted to record from and then start recording with the Sound Recorder?

I use Adobe Audition 1.5 (not the latest version) coupled along with Sony's Sound Forge 8.0 for my multi-track recording, post-production mixdowns and mastering.

It's not free, though

Record-Anything 2.95

QUOTE
Record Anything description
Record-Anything is a revolutionary recorder software for MS Windows
Record-Anything (former known as Mini Recorder) is a revolutionary recorder software for Windows. Unlike other over-complicated products, Record-Anything focuses primarily on user experience. You'll be astonished at how easy it is to record sound and how good the result quality would be.

Based user interface makes it the quickest to start or stop whenever you want. It is no longer necessary to switch from one window to another just to locate a "start recording" button.

Real-world tests show that users of Record-Anything is at least 2 times more efficient than users of other products in its category

Here are some key features of "Record Anything":

Records any sound playing through the sound card. (Music played through MS Media Player, streaming audio, game sound, video sound, voice chat content, etc.)
Always one click away in the systray.
Record first and name later. Instead of asking for the filename to save, Record-Anything starts recording immediately after you click on the tray icon.
Encoding on-the-fly into MP3 files in a wide range of quality choices. Mono and VBR is also supported.
Systray visualization of recording audio data.
Smart recording volume optimizer to help determine ideal recording volume and minimize sound quality loss.
Concise and user-friendly configuration interface.
ID3 V1 tag writer integrated with the save file dialog.

Is there any lightweight (use very little resources) program that is able to record sound from a microphone and is able to run in the background. Preferably, it can auto compress the data into wma voice or mp3 automatically. I looking for something that can be used to record a few hours of voice.

mp3directcut

a powerful mp3 editor, and sound recoder too.

Wingogo
http://www.marinecat.net/ mp3 encoder/recoder using gogo-no-coda mp3 encoding library.(obsoleted)

Windows Media Encoder, this one is overkill tongue.gif
for record directly to wma.

and media player classic, it can record audio too wink.gif
but setup might abit trouble some if u wana directly compress to mp3/wma, other than PCM wav."

compress the recorded audio to mp3/wma in real time will take some CPU cycle, use pcm wav should be best choice as it dont do any compression.

I wanna record audio files direct from swf playing on websites.

But all of the software that I've tried, I couldn't locate my sound card (audio output). Could only record from the audio input (line in, microhpone).

According to all the software descriptions, they seem to imply that they can record Anything that's playing (if you can hear it, you can record it). I guess my driver/soundcard does not support that?

Please advise? Thank you.

Guys, try MP3 Recorder Studio. It can record from many sources like microphone, radio, internet (conversations like skype or msn), convert copy-protected music. The quality is impressive.

Hey guys, I'm currently facing a problem where the sound of my recording has a delay, like its not in sync when the instrument is played at the same time. Can anyone help me out with rectifying this problem? I record tracks thats why its a problem for me cause the additional tracks are not in sync with the first. thanks.
