It will last for a day if you are on 4G/LTE. Even if you browse a lot, whatsapp, call and do other stuff with it.
If you are on 3G though, it won't be so good. It doesn't last long.. Maybe 6 hours if you do a lot or a bit more around 7-8 hours. If you are on 4G/LTE, battery life won't be much of a problem.

Heard might lose the warranty if anything goes wrong.
But when OTA is out you can update to that. I love the notification centre so I can't live without it.

You should grab the update too. The notification centre is what i'm excited about.
No need to worry about notifications missing or unseen anymore
It's not really about Cortana the best part about 8.1 is to noti centre.

Faster, more responsive, extra options, additional feature and Cortana is great.

4G on Lumia doesn't use that much battery compared to 3G.
I'm not sure about 2G though.

Huhu love it. My update is already ready for installed when the first guy told me about the available update.
Pretty fast not like before where we need to manually check it.

Now to play around a few days to see if the improvement in battery life is there.
I also notice slightly that my battery life is a bit poor compared to 8.0.
But not a big difference so i'm cool.

From the first week I own my 1020 and joining this thread there is already shortage.
The amount of stocks they have aren't many for sure and there is zero real news saying it's discontinued lol.

There is already like a 3rd update already for 8.1.
Not sure why some are holding it out since it's the best update ever.
You are missing all the feature which should be built in since day 1.
It's very stable and you don't see much complain about it and best part is no more missed notifications.
Pretty sure most have upgrade to 8.1 preview already and satisfied about it.

Battery life is not an issue for me it will last a day at work on LTE and even longer on Wifi.
The constant notification for a single whatsapp message when someone spam is no more..
Only one notification in a few minutes time.
