Since the player is wrongly red-carded, does that mean he still gets ban for next match or the ban will go to the rightful player (the one suppose to kena red card)?

Think arsenal will appeal. With all the video technology, maybe they will correct it after that.

nice game, what a great performance by our team !
but the highlight is still andre mariner...sent off wrong people.

and people shared this in my facebook feeds
Referee: "Gibbs, you're off!" Ox: "But ref, it was me!" Ref: "be quiet Walcott, or you'll be off as well"

felt sorry for wenger though, his 1000th game ended up like this.

salute and massive congratulation for Mr Wenger for his 1000th. truly a premier league legend.

i just hope Mourinho can replicate his mileage with Chelsea.

and yes.. the linesman done quite a few wrong things..offside call..and give the wrong number to the ref for the send off.

but above all..i'm one happy fella with our team performance..up up the blues !!

pergh.. I slept last night with a big smile. The win was satisfying considering people always paired Chelsea with the word negative play haha

I think I start to understand why JM want all player to contribute in the defensive play, even to the likes of all our attacking players. Thing is, NATURALLY, nobody like to do defensive job because we are not design to run backwards. In addition, running backwards consume so much energy and need a lot of effort to make it perfect. However, the attacking instinct is an ever present in everybody's mind. That is why a GK can become a perfect addition while pursuing a result in the dying minute. EVERYBODY can be an attacker, but not all can become a defender. JM ideology? Let's make the defending DNA is embedded in his player, and let the creativity and flair do the attacking. I believe this is genius!

For the case of Arsenal, they played quite defensively against Spurs. And they might try to do so against us last night considering many of their players is injured. The problem is, they are depending on LUCK since defensive play need to be embedded in the players mind to be effective. That is why I always say, people that reject defensive football as delusional simply because they are going against the rule of nature. THERE IS ALWAYS AN OPPOSITE OF SOMETHING.

My view on football tactics is that, if you can't out play your opponent, then play defensively. Notable teams are Barca, Bayern, Real Madrid, Man City etc.. I think it is already a sin even to dream your team can out-attack the likes of these teams. Solution? Play defensively. Why? The burden will be shifted to the attacking team to try and break the defence. Best fail case? See how Arsenal perform (with their supposed beauty, but win-less) play against the attacking team.

I really hope the win least night is an eye opener for some people. Even you hate Chelsea, you cannot say the team played negatively. Defensive play is part of the game. The important part is that, tactics need to vary in countering different type of opponent.

KTBFFH!

I was watching the game yesterday night... come half time we are up by 4-0.... and then blackout... damn it.... it had to come at a time like this.... I wanna watch the rest of the 45.... damn it... but thumbs up for Arsene Wenger for the 1000 milestone... but Mou just had to ruin his party with 6 - nil trashing... that's not Arsene Wenger's fault... the Arsenal players are at fault here... they seems to switch off every time they face big opponents... I wonder why is that?

steps rebuilding by Mourinho.

1 - the team lack of direct play, so he bring in Schurrle and Willian + Eto'o
2- because we got Eto'o as part of the Willian deal and at the same time Lukaku asked for loan deal, Lukaku off to Everton.
3- try the old formation by Rafa, not working the way he want.
4- bring back 'Chelsea Way' everyone must defend and support on attack ( Mata dropped )
5- play Terry week in week out, stick with Iva and shift Azpi to LB ( improve defend department ) we stop conceding silly goals.
6 - now Mourinho focus on pivot, dropped Lampard because of pace, stick with Ramires as main man, bring Mikel in.
7 - pivot can win ball but cant support or attack, so January he bring in Matic. ( Pivot Problem Solve ) ~ later he bring in Luiz to DM because of some injury to the starter )
8- He shift his attention to trident. Hazard is good from the start of the season. Oscar also very influential in playmaking. after the arrival of Matic..Willian and Schurrle hit the ground running. Great offer from Utd, Mata decide to leave, bring in Salah.
9- Now with Salah in the team, Mourinho can play trident two ways..possession or direct football. Oscar Hazard and Willian can all play both ways, while Salah and Schurrle can play 'beat offside trap" and more direct.
10 - now the striker start scoring in the second half of this season.. He cant fix this position yet this season because they the management have some kind of plan about this position next season..

well..the bottomline is..Mourinho built his team from the back to the front and he clearly addressed the same issue that bothering the fans..that is why fans can accept his decisions easily.

Just finish watching the whole match.

We really started the match very well, high intensity right from the start rewarding us with 2 goals from Atok and Schurrle. After that, kinda controlled performance. But then we still maintain lethal in the final third. 4-0 by half time. Things looking very good.

Good sub to bring on Salah. Good run by Salah to beat offside trap. Excited to see more from Salah.

We need to have more starts like yesterday. Against PSG we can't afford to slow the pace. If we can start with high intensity and get the goal. Things will be easier. A good example was last nite's match. After the first 2 goal, we were cruising.

Anyway, Luiz + Matic combo for big game is a big nod. I think if Luiz is converted to DM position, Lamps can retire peacefully and Mikel can be sold dy. brows.gif

Ps Nice dive by Ox. He'll make a good keeper. tongue.gif

Looking at the table, we have the best defense with only 23 goals conceded. Liverpool have the best attack with 82 goals scored.

Yes, I am optimistic. Bring on Liverpool. It'll be an attack vs defend game. We shud not b afraid of Suarez. Suarez shud be afraid of Cahill, JT and Cech. brows.gif

Swansea and Sunderland shouldn't be underestimated though, both fighting to stay in the Premier League. And their form can go up and down sometimes.

Stoke, Charlie Adam and the gang can stir up a miracle against big teams, so must be careful too.

Other than that, Palace, Norwich and Cardiff should be less difficult to handle. Hoping for players to be in good form and win big in these games in order to reduce the GD difference comparing to City.

And then, the Champions League, hope can knock Ibra's team out laugh.gif

City having an advantage of stamina in their remaining games because they no longer need to play in the Champions League, nor in any domestic cups, so they now only need to focus on the Premier League.

IMO hard/cautious games for City:
25/3 United (A)
29/3 Arsenal (A)
5/4 Southampton (H)
13/4 Liverpool (A)
16/4 Sunderland (H)
3/5 Everton (A)

If they can drop some points in any of these games, it will be a big boost to our title hopes thumbup.gif

Sorree for the srowness, but YAY! rclxm9.gif

Yesterday from 8am to 6pm play ultimate then quick shower, then dinner and watch the game. Was exhausted by the end of it, but was still super hyper about the result.

I think the 2 early goals would have probably gave us enough control and momentum in the game to win comfortably. But the red card just made it too easy. I think it was a nice game to have, plus the added midweek rest will also work in our favour.

Now we just have to keep our eyes on the prize and play our cards right, then who knows, we might just .... brows.gif

Wenger tu...mcm x berani nak tukar tactic. When they've conceded the 2nd goal, shud've sub in Flamini for Ox dy. Arsenal's pivot that day Arteta + Ox, mcm no steel. Lembik sangat.

If started with Flamini + Arteta mungkin lain cita. brows.gif

now we can clearly see the product of high workrate that Mourinho demand early in the season..the workrate to play high pressing game..chased the ball like a mad dog to regain possession..both luiz and matic always close down the arteta-ox combo, to be honest..that partnership for arsenal is very light to go against luiz-matic..

Do we want Shaw or do we need Shaw?

At current situations... I dun think we need Shaw... his price tag will be enormous and although he's a natural left back... it is just recently that he registered his first assist for Southampton... how many games he started? But English players are always expensive....

I still prefer Azpi as LB.

and Iva now become senior figure in the dressing room..lead by performance..Mourinho also really like Iva at RB.

if Shaw come in as second LB, I dont mind at all..but his price tag are huge for second LB.

Luiz, Ram, Willian, Oscar, Hazard.

Nice read. Luiz ticks all the box to be a box to box player instead of a CB. His height, his vision and his through ball are better used in the pivot position. brows.gif

Now the question is, against PSG, who will partner Luiz in the pivot? Lamps, Ram or Mikel? hmm.gif

Luiz+Ram ~ Luiz must stay back and Ram box to box.
Luiz + Lampard ~ also same as Ram.
Luiz + Mikel ~ Luiz can be box to box, but Mikel to handle the pace of PSG might be a problem here..

as for me..Luiz + Ram for sure..just Ram need to control his touches and passing.. Lampard will be second choice for me..

tbh, amongst Falcao, Cavani and Costa. I feel the most anxious to see Costa in a Chelsea jersey.

Bamford is proven in Championship, naturally the next step is to loan him to a PL club and see how he does.

Our striker force next season.
1) Lukaku
2) Costa
3) Torres/Eto

Eto might leave to Mallorca to end his career where he started it. Torres might be a part of the transfer to bring Costa here. So 3rd choice is up for debate. icon_idea.gif

Watching this video. Costa really like gangster yo. spit on his gloves, then throw his spits to the opposition, particularly ramos. haha

My summary for Schurrle:
Great calm finisher, pacey direct runner, take some good long shots with his right foot, someone who beats the offside trap, the German mindset: intelligent and hardworking.

Too bad he don't have the best physical build to make use of his height. Not to mention his height affects his centre of gravity, which means he isnt a good 'Hazard' dribbler.

Schurrle is the type of player to play when your opposition plays highline defending and attacking football.

overall gameplay willian still better than him..but he and salah both capable to play direct and beat offside trap football..I think Mourinho will use when the time is right..with suitable opponent..If Schurrle and Salah can improve their overall gameplay..I reckon that they will be better than Willian..but Its not a problem because Willian also capable to playa s No.10 playmaker..

To me hazard>oscar>schurlle>willian.willian is more like a better version of rami.hardly see he create any creativity whereas schurlle create more than him but less game play.

Willian better in tracking back ball and pressing opponent.schurlle a bit slugish on tackling opponent.

To me hazard>oscar>schurlle>willian.willian is more like a better version of rami.hardly see he create any creativity whereas schurlle create more than him but less game play.

Willian better in tracking back ball and pressing opponent.schurlle a bit slugish on tackling opponent.
Just my POV smile.gif
*
I understand that..but Schurrle and Salah might struggle badly if they play against opponent that defend deep and compact.

at least we have Plan B and C and maybe even D..with our 5 trident players.

I cant wait for us to put this trident..

Salah-(OScar/Hazard/Willian)-Schurrle..

to play against high line defensive opponent. tongue.gif

for once, i would like to say i prefer eto'o to stay while torres and ba should leave to make space for others. eto'o started unconvincingly but he started to show good chemistry with other player. furthermore, he is surely a much more convincing sub in time of need.

with regard to willian vs shurlle, i rate willian above shurlle, even above oscar. oscar got a lot of limelight this season because he dispose mata from the system. willian never got the license to create when oscar is there. however, this guy never shy away if given the opportunity as what we got from the match against man city. durability, speed and consistency.. who knows next season it will be oscar who will be disposed by willian hehe

on another note, totally agree with this:
"But it was still Matic who made them all tick. The Serb's is a powerful presence, closing down opponents and breaking up their rhythm while out of possession and progressive when he does claim the ball. The £21m outlay raised eyebrows, given he had been considered a makeweight two years previously, but he has added value to this set-up. He was everything Arsenal lacked in the middle: a physically imposing, calm and authoritative ball winner and distributor."
http://www.theguardian.com/football/2014/m...chelsea-arsenal

matic is on a league of his own. totally impressed with his contribution so far.

yes..Eto'o as the 2nd or 3rd striker for next season will be great..Ba will leave because he already almost left us in January..canceled because of Torres injury.

Mourinho have the balls to sell Mata, bring the player that we traded for Luiz for the best of the club.

Matic hold everything together..everyone expect us to buy a striker in the january but our manager manage to find the real problem and buy a midfielder.

Yeah seeing city stroll past united with ease make me think that we will not win the epl this season

I was hoping at least a draw

And for some reason I dont think we will win all the remaining match. U know la chelsea perform this game next game lemau little bit

The aston villa match previously is a prove of our inconsistencies. We shouldnt lose points like that

what a moyes performance by united. yes..it is now become a word..

but still believe that Moyes is the best man to carry United forward for the next 6 years. The club need stability and stability breed success. We all must stand behind Moyes.

poor old man..he cant even grind a draw result. I blame the United faithful at the Old Trafford, they must give this man a chance.

Expected result... I don't fancy Man Utd to stop Man City.... it is up to the Arsenal boys and Liverpool to stop them. Those two are the best two team that can stop the force of Yaya and co... they are picking up their scoring form again... even without Aguero... scary...

Please do not sell Luiz... I think he is the future of our backbone... together with Matic, they are solid! although at times he is shaky at the back playing CB, but in times and with Mou's guidance, he'll be the best CB in years to come

Yeah, lucky strike from AV. From my observation the other day, when key attacking midfielder like hazard being marked, and the rest not in form, we are mostly in trouble. Eto is better striker in finding spaces compared to Torres. Torres style is mostly suit current liverpool. But well, we have to respect the coach's style. That's what I think only smile.gif

When pipul cant score against us (Cech, Terry, Cahill, Azpi), they simply say we park the bus.

But u noe wad, our bus only got 5 players dat form the bus. Azpi, Cahill, Terry, Iva and Matic. The other players do not form the so called 'bus'. The trident and striker simply apply pressure from the top half of the field to win ball. Mana ada park bus? huhu.

Btw, fantastic strategy by Mou. Solid back 4, plus high work rate attacking players. The first line of our defense is actually our attack. Once we successfully win the ball high up in the field, boom, counter attack with numbers. blush.gif

Nope first line of defenses come from our pivot.
If our pivot working well our trident and striker able to cont pressing high in the opponent lines more.
We can see it clearly when luizmatic combo were use.

nope again  tongue.gif our trident and striker is the first line of defend..they all press high and close down all the ball playing in the opponent half.  tongue.gif

Both also partly right. Coz when our pivot combo is wrong, our trident will somehow not perform well also. hmm.gif

Luiz + Matic for big matches ahead pls. brows.gif

Once we successfully win the ball high up in the field, boom, counter attack with numbers.  blush.gif

Exclusive: Barcelona Prepare Mammoth £83m (€100m) Offer for Chelsea Trio as Part of Nou Camp Squad Makeover

QUOTE
Barcelona are planning a major summer overhaul and the Nou Camp side have earmarked moves for a trio of Chelsea talents they feel will resolve potential ‘problem area’s in their squad.

CaughtOffside understands that the Catalan giants are set to offload a number of players this summer as they look to finance big money moves and the La Liga side hope to lure three players from Stamford Bridge.

Gerardo Martino has earmaked a move for Chelsea keeper Thibaut Courtois, who has been a massive success during his three seasons on loan at Atletico Madrid and is now considered the ideal replacement for Victor Valdes.

The experienced Spanish international custodian has already stated his intention to leave in the summer and this has led to a frantic scouting process to identify possible keeper signings with the 21 year old currently topping that wish-list.

Jose Mourinho may be open to cashing in on Courtois as he continues to see Petr Cech as his undisputed number one starter and the fact that their young Belgian is still yet to play a single senior fixture for the West London club, almost three years since signing for Chelsea, would appear to suggest he is a player they can afford to consider offers for.

Similarly Brazilian international David Luiz is seen by Barcelona as a possible long term successor to centre-back Carles Puyol, with the 35 year old also publicly announcing his intention to call time on his career at Barca.

Luiz has started less than half of Chelsea’s Premier League fixtures this term and has most recently been used in a makeshift defensive midfield role, with Mourinho standing firm with his first choice centre-back pairing of John Terry and Gary Cahill.

Barcelona were linked with a £25m bid for the former Benfica man but are willing to increase their offer in the summer.

Though Luiz is something of a fan favourite and was a pivotal member of the Chelsea side’s that won Champions League and Europa League honours in recent seasons he too is a player Mourinho may be ready to sell.

Jose Mourinho is keen to balance out spending with player sales and is keen to trim his extensive squad with one eye on UEFA’s FFP (Financial Fair Play) guidelines, which will really begin to bite next season.

The Chelsea manager adopted this approach in January when he sold Juan Mata, Kevin de Bruyne and Micheal Essien to Man United, Wolfsburg and AC Milan respectively, then using the funds to cover the cost of bringing in Nemanja Matic, Mohamed Salah and Kurt Zouma.

It’s the third member of the Barcelona’s Chelsea based shopping list that may prove the most tricky as they seek out a move to bring in midfield battler Ramires.

Martino is a big admirer of the 27 year old and will hope to tempt the Brazilian into pushing for a move to Barcelona, where he’ll be used to improve the club’s midfield options.

Ramires is seen as a viable option to replace two players who look to be part of the Blaugrana clear-out, namely former Premier League pair Alex Song and Javier Mascherano.

Jose Mourinho will not be looking to lose Ramires, a player who has already racked up close to 200 appearances for Chelsea since his move to the club in August 2010.

As well as the two aforementioned defensive midfielders Barcelona are also ready to offload Isaac Cuenca, Gerard Deulofeu, Marc Bartra as well as more established first teamers including Pedro and Dani Alves.

Barcelona are ready to sanction an offer of as much as €100m (£83m) for the Chelsea trio.

-Cortoius
-David Luiz
-Ramires

Don't think they will get Courtois, cause Borussia M'gladbach already say their #1 keeper Ter Stegen is leaving end of this season for Barca, and they also brought in his replacement di hmm.gif

Imo, i hope Luiz and Ram stays. Courtois...i'm sorry, Cech is still my first choice.

With Cech in goal, we are now the team in PL with the least goal conceded. Cech is not showing any signs of slowing down. So it's up to Courtois to loan out again and wait for his chance, or to ask for a transfer.

Luiz, he is a big match player. Under Mou's guidance, I believe he will blossom 1 day into a complete player, either as a DM or CB. Luiz is 1 for the future.

For Ram, yes, sometimes his performance really make us doh.gif, but on his day, he is a superb player, a big game player too. Rmb the delicate chip he scored against Barca to bring us to the Final in Munich? And also his relentless box to box running is good for Mou's strategy (to close in on opponents quickly). He has the work rate that Mou wants, I doubt Mou will sell him.

Btw, Barca want to offload Cuenca, Deulofeu and Bartra? Diz is bargain wei....Bartra was touted as the next Puyol. Deulofeu was scoring for fun for Barca B team not long ago. his finishing is very good. Cuenca's stat in PES 2014 also gooding yo. Teams that can secure service or Cuenca, Deulofeu and Bartra will be the biggest winner. icon_idea.gif

yap..Cech still my 1st choice..

If Courtois want to be first choice..he must earn it..

or just wait for his time..we are okay both ways.

I also agree with your points on Luiz and Ramires.

and about rumors that Cuenca, Deulofeu and Bartra..If Everton can clinch UCL spot..well they are now 6 points from Arsenal with 1 game in hand..and Arsenal will go against City this weekend..Deulofeu might want to turn his loan into permanent deal..

I will rooting for Everton to take the 4th spot and knock Arsenal out !! Hahahahha

haha...this is just our opinion. If at the end of the day, Chelsea do receive an offer. Roman, Mou and Ron have a meeting that the deal will benefit us in terms of FFP and future prospect, then the deal might still go on. In Mou and Roman we believe, I'll fully support Mou's decision. thumbup.gif

well..safe to say that..we are capable to sell them safely because of the we have backup and solution for all of them.

we have 20+ players on loan..and the academy is booming with talent.

I second that In Mou and Roman we believe, I'll fully support Mou's decision plus Ron done some fantastic job managing the finances of the club.

Since Matic arrived, our double pivot really in good shape. So if Ramires go, im the happy person in the world. Haha. Sell Ramires and get Tony Kroos. So we get better version of yaya + fernandinho in kroos+ matic..

Yup. Our youth are blooming with talent. PVA, Piazon, Blackman, Bamford, Chalobah, McEahren, Traore, just to name a few. And the list go on and on. tongue.gif

I hope Roman is more settled down, b4 this he tries to involve too much by signing Ballack, Sheva, Torres. But now I don't hear diz type of news much, that Roman is particularly interested in certain players and wanna bring him to the Bridge. Btw, Ron is really doing a great job in maintaining our FFP.

I don't think selling courtois is wise. IMO, cech becoming more and more slow this day. He did concede a numbers of saveable goal. Aguero goal at home is an example. Our great wall in front of him is the main reason why he didn't concede much.

Seconded this. Gotta let Courtois vs Cech come pre-season for reals.

Gonna be a tight match all sentiments aside.

I will be on the Cech camp simply because of the experience, work well with the back four, comfortable with BPL type of play and he is a Chelsea man.

but If I love if Courtois can prove me wrong and claim the starting spot in the JM squad.

1 for league the other for cups just like real.
Both keeper will get 30++ games each

GK is not the position that you want to rotate all the time.. why rotate him while he is on form? and those kind of rotation might cost us the game.. plus, they can play on every game if they are not injured..

we do need to let go one of them.. its either Cech or Courtois.. playing both of them in the same club might ruin them.. team without good GK will not survived the competition.. look what happened to Arsenal since the departure of Lehmann? so, its up to JM to choose..

Cech for security, experience and respect or
Coutois for most talented GK in the world..

Its a luxury to have two top keeper in the team and im sure JM will sort it out.

But playing both of the simultaneously will bring no harm.

real can play with 2 keeper. We also can. JM has done that during his Real tenure. And this can be a possibility if we dont sell courtois.

I think Cech can sell, either coming summer or the next. I can see him wanting to move elsewhere for a new adventure like Drogba. He has won everything with Chelsea and will be given the same respect and legendary status is our former No.11. No point keeping Courtois in the sidelines. Can put him straight to first XI, the pressure and responsibility should have a positive effect with good GKs. Just wonder will Schwarzer will stay on as our 2nd choice.

If Cech does leave, it's most likely cause he wants/needs to retire (he does have that fractured skull that nearly cost him his life). But if he does continue playing, I see him back at Sparta Prague smile.gif

Tbh cech no longer have the agility and godlike form he once have.
I like him to stay at chelsea for as long as he can.
hard choice one would be for the future and another one would be for experience.
*
Exactly. Cech kinda slow nowadays. But still, he is one of the world best GK. Courtois on the other hand, getting better and better. Would love to see how far lollichon can polish his potential.

I'm going to go for courtois over cech.

fb video. Some of our players challenging NBA half court shot~ drool.gif

Judging by Cech's shooting stance, seems like he does play some basketball. So I would prefer Cech to move to the LA Lakers. tongue.gif

tbf to Cech..Agility is only one attribute of a GK..for me collective understanding and experience is way more important.

and Christophe Lollichon is a coach brought to the club by Cech.

Courtois now playing for AM - IF AM is La Liga champs, highly doubt he would want to 'demote' himself play at Everton or any other BPL team for that fact.

PL is different with La Liga. Look at De Gea. It took him about 1 season to fully adjust to the physical presence in the PL. I rmb he was disastrous at first.

PL more cross, PL striker more physical.

But if AM wins the Liga, I think AM will 1000% wanna keep Courtois. And it is better for us to sell.

If AM wins the Liga, it'll put us in a weird position. A proven La Liga keeper, to play him or to loan him to teams in PL to gain some experience (physical part) 1st?

even if AM fail to be a champion, i'm pretty sure that Courtois will not be happy to return to us as a back up GK.. and definitely furious if he being sent out for loan again.. IINM his contract will run out soon.. he will not extending his contract if we don't give him the chance.. logically

t is understood owner Roman Abramovich’s senior adviser and executive board member Marina Granovskaia is now overseeing the matter personally.

While a source confirmed talks were “going slowly”, it is believed that Chelsea are telling Courtois that he will get the opportunity to battle it out with Cech for the No1 jersey next season. The 21-year-old is still unsure and is worried about dropping back to the bench after spending three impressive campaigns in Atletico’s goal. Cech has been Chelsea’s main keeper for the past decade and at 31 years old still has plenty of seasons left at the highest level. His contract doesn’t expire until 2017.

Atletico want to sign Courtois permanently or on loan for a fourth successive campaign but Chelsea will not let him do that unless he signs a new contract.

That is where nego must go on to find a nice solution. But personally, I don't like the way Courtois asking for more. Sometime be polite & humble than demanding the club to make decision. Not like we sending him loan to dunno what club or cech not performing.

For a goalkeeper, don't think this will be an issue. Different league doesn't effect goalkeeper ability. Courtois already prove what he is capable of doing in both domestic and European level.

A goalkeeper like courtois talent hard to come by. If we are looking to build squad for the future. Courtois fit all the bills.

from player (courtois) view, confirm won't extend..will be happy to join AM since he is #1 there, probably bond gaogao with the AM players also - won't say it's impossible, but will be hard for Chelsea & JM to convince TCourtois to stay if he chooses to leave - unless Cech really make way for him to be Blues new #1

I agreed he do have the talent & future but 21yrs bossing around Terry & Co.in defending. If everything works, then ok. If not, no eye see.
For me, at least gradually move into 1st GK 1 or 2 seasons.

or..or..sell Courtois and try to get Koke and Costa from them hahahaha of cuz we need to add money..or maybe can just throw Torres in the mix..

I understand that Courtois maybe the future..but Cech just 31..and if everything went well he can go until 40 years old..9 more years to find another prospect of GK such as Courtois..

Chelsea Reaping the Rewards of Mourinho Pragmatism After Trying to Emulate Barca

QUOTE
Any doubters as to the importance of managers in modern football need only look to the role Jose Mourinho has played in Chelsea's resurgence this season to see how vital they remain.

The Portuguese arrived back at Stamford Bridge last summer after a six-year absence, and slowly but surely, the Blues have regained the aura that made the club so formidable during his first spell in charge.

What was so special about that Mourinho team of a decade ago was its ruthless pursuit of glory. It was a win-at-all-costs mentality that brought with it back-to-back Premier League titles, two League Cups and the FA Cup.

Chelsea would steamroll their opponent, suffocating it to within an inch of its being. The Blues were a juggernaut that threatened to dominate the English game for a generation, in much the same way Sir Alex Ferguson's Manchester United did.

Mourinho's Chelsea were a fine example of physical and tactical prowess, rightly winning plaudits from some. That said, for football purists, the Blues resembled an anti-football of sorts.

Where Chelsea fans saw beauty in the club's trophy cabinet bulging like never before, neutrals lamented the style with which the Blues acquired their status.

So too, it seemed did Roman Abramovich.

Success was welcome, but Chelsea's Russian owner wanted to do things with a little more panache. When Mourinho departed Stamford Bridge, so began the quest to replicate the Barcelona model.

In came players such as Deco, who would be followed in later years by the likes of Juan Mata, Eden Hazard, Oscar and a host of other diminutive types with a view to playing Chelsea's own interpretation of tiki-taka.

Even Chelsea's youth teams were employing players of this ilk as Abramovich and his technical director—at first Frank Arnesen and then current incumbent, Michael Emenalo—endeavored to force through a new culture in West London.

Rome, or in this instance, Barcelona, wasn't built in a day, as we know. And Abramovich has learned that fact much to the detriment of Chelsea's success.

Trophies have continued to make their way to West London, but not at the rate they should have. They've trickled rather than flowed, and as for competing for the title, until now, they have been nothing more than also-rans.

The special teams we have seen coming out of the Nou Camp in recent seasons have taken decades to build. They have been influenced by a culture that is ingrained throughout Barcelona.

There's a long-established ethos in Catalonia that is eminent in their team, and it takes much more than the billions of an oil magnate to establish it.

Yet just as Barcelona must be applauded for their style, so too must the teams Mourinho has built as Chelsea manager.

Although their qualities may differ from Barca's, they are just as endearing.

Chelsea have long been among the leading clubs in English football—not finishing outside of the top six since 1997, long before Abramovich came on the scene—yet their new ownership in 2003 propelled them to sit among Europe's elite.

They certainly ruffled the feathers of the more traditional powerhouses across the continent, and call it a case of the jitters, the quest to win over neutrals smacked of the club looking for acceptance from their peers.

Mourinho is a man who craves acceptance merely from his own, however.

Indeed, the Portuguese isn't concerned about what outsiders think. It's about Chelsea for him and what works at Stamford Bridge.

In attempting to change their style and with it, the club's identity, Chelsea became a soft touch, almost. They may have challenged for titles, but one further Premier League success in the eight years since 2006 tells it's own story.

Now that Mourinho is back, that's changing. We're already seeing it this season.

Chelsea's title challenge in 2014 is going down to the wire, while they are among the favorites for the Champions League with a realistic chance at repeating their 2012 success.

There is a renewed optimism, and it's been brought on by the manager.

Mourinho's Chelsea are still developing, and much like times past, they are adopting that ruthless streak that once saw them feared across Europe. And he's doing it by being pragmatic, playing to Chelsea's strengths, not that of others.

Against Arsenal last week, it was counter-attack football, utilizing Hazard and Andre Schurrle on the flanks, that proved to be the Gunners' downfall as they crashed to a 6-0 thumping.

Chelsea beat Arsene Wenger's men by doing things their way, not any other.

For some time it's been the opposite. It's been as though Chelsea have tried to fit in. Not anymore.

It's been refined since his previous stint, and now Mourinho's way is returning, much to Chelsea's benefit. That can only mean one thing.

Yes, some people are playing down PSG's chances due to their league. But quality wise they are superior. Plenty of experienced players in the team, plus some of the best young talent. We are the underdogs in my eyes, but I ain't complaining biggrin.gif
