Hello guys. I need your suggestions.
I'm a Mass Communication student, I used to have HP Pavilion g4 series as my laptop.
Recently, my mom wants to buy Surface RT tablet as I want to bring something light and easier to carry around college.
But I was thinking, instead of buying Surface RT, I would like to change to Macbook.
I've done several research/survey online which Macbook models I should buy but I still can't make up my mind.
I want something where I can keep a lot of things inside (assignments, pictures, songs) but didn't lag,
I walk quite far from my car to college so I want a thin & light laptop, long last battery.

I need your help, which Macbook models (MBA 13 inch vs MBP 13 inch) should I buy?
You can explain to me in detail about the disadvantages/advantages of both models and suggest me which Macbook model should I buy smile.gif

instead of paying Ks on a mac book air. would rather ask u have a look on other brand of ultrabook, and get a ssd, still cheaper than mac book.
even mac book also will lag.

Apart from the Surface Pro 2 or the Sony Vaio with docks, I can't think of anything comparable to the MBA in terms of battery life  hmm.gif

still have to depends on the usage, if high usage on songs, any laptop or ultrabook will work on par with that. haha

Your requirements are abit unrealistic laugh.gif

Closest would be this one hmm.gif
14"
Dell Vostro 5470, i7-4500U + Nvidia GT740M + 32GB mSATA + 500GB(5400rpm) + (1366x768; Touch)@RM2499[1.53kg], 4GB, W8.1SL, 3-cell

*upgrade to 8GB RAM
*upgrade to 256GB SSD

Can look for bro Oscar putochip123 for this unit, he is very good at upgrading notebooks~

** This notebook suffers from weak WiFi, so better to ask bro Oscar to help upgrade the WiFi card as well thumbup.gif
** Its running on a 3-cell battery too, so the battery life is not that long 4-5 hours perhaps
** The notebook is designed to be light, so try not to expect too much in terms of built

Can consider this one as well if you don't mind Asus Malaysia's bad warranty service:
13"
Asus UX302LG-C4002H, i5-4200U + Nvidia GT730M + 16GB mSATA SSD + 500GB + (1920x1080; touch)@RM4099[1.4kg], 4GB, W8.1

actually the WiFi weaknesses is due to driver issue

can it resolved by using other manufacturer's driver?
just like how Dell's default touchpad driver doesnt supports gesture and multi-touch, simply use ASUS's touchpad driver to solve it?

for touch pad u can download from snaptic
for WiFi my housemate using that model doesn't seems to complaint me. Full bar where the laptop placed on 2nd floor. But we using Asus RTn66 router

Yeah, usually people don't really pick i7 processors (especially quad-core) ones for slim notebooks since they heat will be terrible hmm.gif And the current i3 and i5 processors are more than enough for normal to relatively heavy tasks nod.gif

I think both Windows and Mac also require a lot of mouse/trackpad usage? But no worries la, trackpads on notebooks >RM3k are usually very good and accurate nod.gif

Actually if you are willing to bargain abit with Dell online sellers, or find bro putochip123, you should be able to get a Dell XPS13 close to RM3.5k nod.gif But do make sure you are getting the new one with Haswell processor ya, those offer insane battery lives, just like the MBA 13 icon_rolleyes.gif

Happy choosing!

for the pricing, it beat macbook airs alot, and more comfortable for the palm rest area. but of course macbook air does have advantages on their touch pad

Thanks guys. What about thin/light laptops that are lower-end (i.e. cheaper) but with same specs except for HDD which can be upgraded to SSD? Most of these machines have the same RAM and processor anyway; I was thinking I could save a bit of money by buying a cheaper computer and upgrading that myself.

What's your budget?
If u buying Dell product is better u come with a set. As the SSD come with XPS series. I7 model comes with 256 already.
