Surface Pro is actually a very great choice, if you can still find one nod.gif
The 128GB version is selling at ~Rm1.9k only, just need to add another ~RM300 to get the type cover and you're good to go- affordable, portable and high quality device. Of course, you do know that its 10" in size right? Might be too small if your work requires a lot of workspace nod.gif

Can consider this one as well:
14"
Lenovo Ideapad Flex 14, i5-4200U + Nvidia GT820M +(1366x768; touch) + 8GB SSHD + 500GB HDD@RM2299, 4GB (soldered), W8, 2 yrs; colors: black/orange
Ultrabooks are basically slim and light notebooks aimed at portability and battery life but compromising on performance
Normal PC notebooks are relatively bulkier but packs a punch for the price you pay
Surface Pro is a Hybrid Convertible that can be "switched" from tablet to laptop mode vice versa, very convenient for those on the go, or those who needs to make presentations using tablets.

What does your niece do that requires such specifications? hmm.gif
Anyways, that's the best you can get with your budget  nod.gif

She just enroll into singapore republic polytechnic and they require every student to have a laptop with below min requirement:-

2.2GHz 64-bit processor
4 GB RAM
250 GB Hard Disk Space
Wireless adapter must minimally support IEEE 802.11g standard (recommended to support dual-band IEEE 802.11a/g/n standard)
Able to support Windows 7 and above Operating Systems

Please help recommend a unit that matches its requirement but keep the budget as low as possible? If possible within 2K if 1.5k is too low to meet its specs. Her course is live science so I think shouldn't have intense graphical requirement as no graphic design.

Thank really need help

Eh? Why not buy there?
Usually they have special rates for students in the college/university one right? Can get for really cheap  hmm.gif

I don't think live sciences require a very powerful notebook, but still, can consider these if you want nod.gif

Thanks for the help, she didnt buy there because she miss the bulk buy date and the laptop offer are damn expensive when you convert to RM. The cheapest is around Sgd $1110 which more than 2.5k here. Their specs given maybe is worth it but deem too expensive for her.

Please refer to below link for their offer

Holy... I understand what you mean man laugh.gif
The notebooks they offer are really high-end, and in most cases, overkilled haha  tongue.gif

Personally I think its okay to buy from Malaysia, but you have to make sure that warranty support works over in Singapore, just in case  icon_rolleyes.gif

Our home town is in JB so no worries when it comes to warranty claim thing buy in JB.

As why their things is overkill I think they got explain abit in their FAQ section:-

1) Why are the prices of laptops cheaper in some of the electronic stores?

Laptops sold at the roadshow are carefully selected to last at least for the next 3 years or more. The same model may be more expensive than those sold at electronic stores due to better specifications and includes 3 years onsite warranty. RP is organising the roadshow and brought vendors together with the aim of providing more competitive prices and choices for
students.
