how the heck can you differentiate them?! the same goes for quovadis123 for pointing out the sharper sound on PBT and crispier sound on ABS in my vid?!! notworthy.gif notworthy.gif
*
For me it's the bass sound. Topre is a solid sounding and tub thumping sound that's soothing to my ears and sounds very elegant.

When you use good ABS, the sound isn't that weird either with MX Blues, the clicky brightness and the sharper tones actually complement each other.

When you combine that weird thin sound with the soothing bass tones of the Topre, you get a very disharmonic tone that is neither soothing nor bright.

For me, it's easy to hear because I've spent years adjusting the tone on my musical instruments. Certain sounds just... meshes well to create a symphony.

From my side, because I use Ducky MX blue for daily keyboard.
Using abs for quick a long time before switching to keycool PBT.
So, can differentiate the sounds based on my past experience between the 2 materials.
The abs sounds indeed better in terms of "crispiness" than pbt in mx blue. PBT is sharper pitch in sound.
You can try to swap your pbt spacebar to abs and try. Maybe you will love the sound of the abs.

i can't really differentiate them since i have swapped out the ABS keycaps since day 1..... cool.gif

You don't ahve to ask him to bring one in. You can just get one yourself, preferably a second hand one. I got my Realforce 87U from Geekhack.org's Classified section(their Garage Sale thread) for RM600, about RM400 cheaper than buying it new from Elitekeyboards.com. You can usually get my board for about $160~$190 depending on the condition of the board, modifications(55g domes for example), or a Leopold FC660C for about $160~$170, or if you're feeling splurgy, a HHKB Pro 2 for about RM800~RM900.

If anything, you can ask belfong, he's a regular on that site, much more than me. Any Topre related questions he should be able to answer.

Also, someone's selling his Leopold FC660C in the KB+M section. Judging by the age of the product, his price is reasonable. It's just that the 660C has inherent mini-usb problems(it sometimes die after a small number of plug-in/outs), it's keycaps are thin PBT, and there might be some flex in the casing, the seller might not have noticed it.

Exactly. That's the Topre response for the keys and that's why I like Topre so much more than MX Browns. It's like buckling spring is the god-tier version of MX Blue, and Topre is the god-tier version of MX Brown, but you need some time before you actually start to appreciate that it's a very advanced version of membranes.

what is your reason for wanting the Code keyboard from wasd?

features like changing keyboard layout can be done from windows itself.
although it's not on the fly, but for me, i just couldn't justify the extra amount to pay just for that feature.

programmable backlight led, i'd get a ducky shine 3 that is about RM300 cheaper (considering shipping cost USD$56 for non-tracking shipping, $70 for tracking)
*
Well, I just want a nice mx clear switch keyboard, I'm not into the backlight though.
I've being using my cherry mx red for years in my house and wanted to try another switch in the office.
I've tried brown before and the subtle tactile feel is not my cup of tea, and heard that mx clear switch got a sharper tactile feel.
And no, I'm not gonna use blue switch, they're very noisy, at least for me.

Very ordinary Realforce 86U, which is more balanced look.
Maybe what you normally seen is 87U.

The guy was listing it for $175 shipped within CONUS, but luckily he was going to Taiwan for a business trip, so I got it with Taiwanese shipping rates, arrived in Malaysia in 2 days. Price is including shipping.

Here's a 87u modded from a silent model, with swapped backplate and sliders, as well as a swapped case(Stormtrooper edition), but it's 2 years old with noticeable shine on the space bar. He's from Singapore.

Realforce 87U variable weight Stormtrooper edition
