Hi guys
am planning to build a rig soon and am still surveying the prices around. I usually buy my parts from Viewnet and have them assemble it
Would you guys recommend going to places like IdealTech or Cyntrix Technologies (in terms of pricing / service ) or would I be better off getting the parts and having them assembled from Viewnet/All-IT etc ?
thanks guys

Hi guys,
I've chosen my core parts :
Processor : CORE I7 4770 - 3.40ghz ( RM949 ) Casing : Fractal Design Define R4 Black Pearl Non-Window (RM370) RAM : 16gb ram SSD hdd for main C:\ drive : ( INTEL 530 SERIES 120GB ) RM359 additional hdd :- 2tb sata 3 - western digital - RM269 DVD-RW drive - RM62
*prices sourced from Viewnet + ALL-IT
I'd appreciate a recommendation for RAM, motherboard and a graphics card
Chose a MSI GTX660 for my graphics card but if there's a better one which fits in my budget, please do let me know !
A wee bit confused for the RAM as there are a few brands but to fit into my allocated budget i chose a DDR3 1600Mhz value ram from ALL-IT priced at RM209 , it should be ok yeah ?
still considering between ordering it from IdealTech or sourcing the parts on my own from lowyat but as I've no experience in proper cable management for airflow and all, I still have got to look up more on that
thanks guys

I honestly cant remember the brand from the top of my head, I've to check it when I'm back home but I think there's sufficient power though if that's what you're wondering..about 550W I reckon

wow right on the dot Sentinel, RM4201 !
noted regarding the PSU and thanks for the recommendation and suggestions ! Any specific reason why the Asrock over Gigabyte for the motherboard? Been seeing alot of Asrock suggestions for the motherboard..I tend to prefer Gigabyte as I faced the least problems with it..so far
Also, for the RAM, is there alot of difference compared to the value Kingston RAM that I chose?
I did consider the Xeon but I think i'll still stick with the i7 as I'll still have the on-board graphics function should my graphics card fail

thanks alot guys! really appreciate it
ok ive to look up on this Gainward GTX760 Phantom card
still have to do my research on the difference between the cards, like for example, I had my eyes set on the msi gtx 660 twin frozr which is priced at rm900+, and yet this gtx760 is much cheaper..
@Sentinel92 oh the reason for the in built cards for the i7 rather than the xeon is because in case of gpu failure then at least ive the option to use the in built graphics card for my graphics work just for emergencies

Hey guys, just finalizing my com parts
I've decided on the Gainward GTX760 Phantom 2GB (rm849) for my graphics card. Any recommendations for other better graphics card besides the gainward gtx760 / I should be looking at which fits my budget about rm800-rm1000 (could go up a bit depending) ?

Ah allright, will have to look up on the other graphics card mentioned
correct me if im wrong, but based from what ive been reading, the only difference between the gtx760 phantom and the normal gtx760 is that the former is an overclocked version yeah? Ive no experience with overclocking products before and if i actually need it in the first place, theres only a rm50-ish price difference between the 2, so Im guessing I'll just go with the overclocked version
as always, appreciate the help guys

QUOTE(rav3n82 @ Mar 30 2014, 05:32 PM) You're right, the Phantom is an overclocked version of the GTX 760. The performance difference shouldn't be that much. But what you're getting is a slightly better cooling solution compared to the reference solution. gotcha..thanks dude

finalized my rig guys, gonna get it sometime this week, what do you guys reckon :
casing : fractal design r4 (RM390) CPU: intel i7 4770 3.4ghz (RM979) Mobo: Gigabyte H87M-D3H (RM339) RAM: 2 units of 8gb Value Ram either Corsair or Kingston (RM240 or RM245) SSD: Plextor M5S 128GB (RM289) HDD : Seagate Barracuda 2tb (RM279) Samsung DVD-RW (RM55) PSU : FSP Raider 650w (RM253) GPU : Gainward GTX760 Phantom 2GB (RM849) Win 7 64-bit (RM429)
total : RM4342
im guessing there was a price increase for some of the parts like about rm150-rm200 more than what I counted earlier in the month, ah well..hopefully the guys at lowyat can give me a good price/discount

QUOTE(Clem1982 @ Mar 31 2014, 12:31 PM) All is good but change the DVDRW to another brand... any brand will do except for Samsung... they make great HDD and SSD but not ODDs.. noisy and unreliable that one thanks ! Ill go for the LG one instead

QUOTE(mykchin8 @ Mar 31 2014, 01:48 PM) faridz, unless you absolutely need Win7, I would recommend Win8 Pro, which you can buy the upgrade version of Win8 Pro for ~RM210, and it installs exactly like a normal Win8 Pro. If you prefer the Win7 interface, you can boot to desktop, or you can also install apps that will make the Win8 look like Win7. Win8 Pro will also upgrade for free to Win8.1 Pro, and that brings some more improvements to the OS. Also you save RM220, which is real money, and you can either pocket the money, or invest it in some other item. thanks for the suggestion mykchin8, appreciate it! as for the DVD-RW drive, i opted for the Asus one instead, and I got a good deal on the PSU ( i think ) so instead of the FSP raider 659w, I opted for a 700W zalman one This post has been edited by faridz7: Apr 1 2014, 03:56 PM

I was offered the zalman 700w gt bronze at rm270, the fsp 650w was at rm250 so I figured I'd just stump up the rm20 to get a slightly higher powered one

QUOTE(Cable707 @ Apr 1 2014, 08:07 PM) Mind to share what model of the PSU? Hey Cable, I've not picked up the computer yet so I don't exactly know the model but on the receipt it just says Zalman 700w Gt Bronze

oh..well..that isn't..comforting to know that it's somewhat noisy...I guess I can still change the parts as I've not made the full payment yet and can ask them to change the PSU as I'm still waiting for my fractal casing to arrive which should be tomorrow...
hmm...what do you reckon Cable, should I change ?

thanks guys...hm so the Seasonic S12 II 620W one is a way better PSU huh...ok.
For a layman like me, the 700w trumps the 620w one..620w is way enough for a computer with 4 hdd + 1 ssd right? It should be..

QUOTE(Clem1982 @ Apr 2 2014, 12:14 PM) Wattage isn't all there is to a PSU, gotta take into account things like the build quality and effectiveness... of course if you're comparing within the same brand and line fo PSU then of course the 700W is gonna be better and yes it will support your HDD and SSD.. they use very little energy... it's the GPU you have to worry about but the Seasonic S12II 620W should be able to power up a GTX770Ti / R9 280X without issues Thank you for the explanation ! been learning alot about the computer parts the past few days, thanks again guys Pretty sure I'm still able to change the parts, thanks again This post has been edited by faridz7: Apr 2 2014, 12:27 PM
