Peace be upon you all.

Anyone here use MSI K9A Platinum? I've read the review of this board at Anandtech and it seems that the overclocking potential is huge.

QUOTE
MSI reached one of the higher overclocks in our roundup, topping out at 335x9. At stock 12x the board maxed out at 258. Both of these are a bit lower than the ASUS with its 8-phase power regulation, but results are still remarkably close to the ASUS considering this is a cheaper board and a much simpler design. Most of the credit for the overclocking performance should go to the ATI RD580 chipset. The K9A was very stable at the fastest 335 speed. Perhaps just as important, the MSI recovered gracefully from bad overclocks - allowing a reboot and entry into the BIOS to fix the settings from a bad OC.

Is there anyone who know how much this board cost? I'm now hunting for suitable mobo for my new rig, which possibly consist of AM2X2 3600+, 7600GT, 1Gb single 677 RAM (Add another 1Gb later for dual channel).

I will definitely going to overclock this X2 which is possible to OC to ~2.4-2.6 region by air cooling. I fell in love with M2N-E but the VDimm as you guys pointed out just max at 1.95 - that is huge limitation for OCing.

If the price of MSI K9A Platinum is right, i think I'll go for it.

The MSI K9A is not available here as far as i can see, just don't get M2N-E if u wanna OC, one of the worst board for OC  doh.gif

Too bad. I think I can just ask any shop which sell MSI products and ask for K9A platinum @vailability & price.

In the other hand, Epox 570SLi is also an excellent overclocker (based on anandtech review). However, I highly doubt I can find this mobo anywhere in Malaysia.

8tvt, that is good overclocking result ~500Mhz, considering what people has been saying about Asus M2N-E.

I've devided that I will buy Biostar TForce4U because I have 4 Ide drive that needs to be plug in to the MOBO. TForce 550 is sexy, but just have one Ide slot ... sigh ...

So before I buy the Mobo, probably tomorrow or Monday, any comment on Tforce4U? I asked the shopkeeper about the mobo, he said the different in overclocking BIOS is unlike Tforce 550, Tforce4U does not have memory timing.

Another thing that I want to know. What value RAM should I get? Corsair? Kingston? Patriot?

Thanks in advance.

for mobo why don't u take dfi?

I have ponder upon the possibility, but the chipset seems to be the same with Tforce 4U and the price different is +- RM 100. Moreover, I does not need SLI.

Hehehe ... thanks guys for advice(s) ...

I've made my first move towards migrating to AM2 platform by trading in my agp 6600GT with 7300GT with little added cost ... icon_idea.gif

Actually this is Socket AM2 overclocking thread right ... sorry for distracting U guys. InsyaAllah I'll post my overclocking result when my system is up and running.

Thanks again!

Hope Theinquirer is not bluffing .... and I almost buy X2 3600+! Guys, what can we expect from AMD 65nm Chips? Do you think X2 65nm will overclock better? drool.gif

anyone use biostar tf550 and use DDR2 -800?
i saw tf550 just let use to max ram voltage is 2.1V only...so how to do more overclock for ram
*
If i'm not mistaken, t550 has a jumper that let you change the voltage to 2.3v. However, you cannot adjust the voltage in BIOS. You stuck with 2.3v only. Therefore, it's a good practice for you to try to OC you ram untill 2.1v and see what is your result first. If 2.1v is not enough and there's more headroom, then 2.3v.

*******
Anyway, I've just manage to configure my X2 3600+ rig. I use Biostar TForce4 U AM2. Haven't have time yet to seriously overclock the CPU. Just oc to 2.1G (210*10), run memtest86 for 20 minutes and complete SuperPI (sorry I didn't take the screenshot.)

I should have more time this weekend IA and I'll go deeper in OCing. Wish me luck!

Hmmm guys sorry for asking this question over and over again, i'm quite blur about the RAM divider table thing, can anybody please spend some time to explain about it?

I think this guide could help. Everything you should know about Athlon 64/ sempron 64 overclocking ... and Please read the Clock generation on AMD 8th-Gen Platforms first!

Spec:
CPU: X2 3600+ stock heatsink
Mobo: Biostar TForce4 U
RAM: Corsair VS 1GHz DDR2, CL5, Single + Antec copper RAMSink
GPU: Biostar 7300GT

I've done mild OCing on this set-up. I manage to stable overall system OC @ 2.2GHz;
(200x10, 4xHTT mul, 4,4,4,12 1T Ram timing).

I'm able to OC to 2.4GHz but it's not stable for overall system. I'm not very surprise though, because my PSU is ICute cap ayam 450W yawn.gif (RM80-90 retail price at the moment). I can't even OC my GC aggresively (20+ for core, 20+ for memory).

My PSU is scavange from my last PC (still operating), an AMD XP 1700+. I knew from reading LYN that overclocking needs beefy PSU. However, I just tried current PSU as i'm now gathering information on PSUs. Right now, I just run my system under normal mode with no OCing. (Better safe than sorry!).

As for the Motherboard, I stick to TForce4U because it has 2 ide, about the same Bios with Tforce550 and a little cheaper. I appreciate the advice to go for DFI NF Ultra II, but the price delta is quite high for me.

So far I can't comment much on the mobo and the RAM as PSU has limit the OCing potential. I will comment later when I change to better PSU. Any suggestion on PSU guys?
