All character wiped out?, after the long patch

All my hero been wiped out after I apply the patch. Been a while since I last played D3 but when I did, been asked to optimize the game and followed by a big patch. After that, I need to replay it again? I have both monks and wizards that has finished the whole thing. What happen....
