For me it's a slate, finger spool, and scissors.

As of now i wear surf pants with zipable/valcro pockets and store my knife + SMB & reel in them.

Spare torch and GoPro when I'm not using. Don't feel secure to clip GoPro on harness.

buy pants with bigger pockets. haha. I think can go scubatex see see if they have it. should be as cheap

On a separate note mayI know what type of dive insurance do you all get? I need one that covers Scuba (including courses) and equipment. Can't seem to find something as comprehensive.

Sipadan-Dive Resort, do you Sipadan Kapalai Dive Resort... if Yes, very good choice and very Safe (Generally)!! Kapalai, itself has many dive sites and a wreck too. They also frequent Mabul, Siamil and Sipadan... high demand, book 6-9 months ahead.

The Reef Dive Resort, another good choice. 1 resort - 2 islands    Again, Mataking island itself has many sites and the famous Post Ofis Wreck too. islands hopping for snorkeling or scuba? shouldnt be an issue... BUT travel to Sipadan island s loooong journey, 2-2+ hr... if not enuf ppl, add RM??!!

Oya... both islands are also famous for honeymoon, wedding photo too....

Since Mataking Island is far Sipadan, then which are the "nearby" resorts to Sipadan? Kapalai Island? Also if I wanna hike up Bohey Dulang, ideally Mataking Island will be a better choice as it's nearer?

I don't have my OW yet but been snorkeling few places already, planning to go back to Tenggol soon to try Scuba Discovery & then decide whether to take OW or not. I felt that I may under utilize my OW cert so that's why still considering.

So are you planning to go to sipadan to dive? If you haven't gotten your OW than what happens when you decided not to go for it after your DSD in Tenggol?
Also Sipadan might not be as enjoyable if your skills are not really there yet.

To enjoy diving in Sipadan, I strongly advise one to have at least AOW experience before doing those wall dives.

Shopping spree Bought scissors, finger spools, torchlight, thigh pocket & glue, and a shorter inflator & hose.

Advanced? Aiya....there goes my plan to visit Sipadan area 
What about snorkeling then?

Not sure if you can get permit for snorkeling, but I guess if you have money, anything is possible.

You can of course go to Sipadan with OW, it's really up to you. No one is stopping you

In my opinion aow or ow doesnt make much diff as main attraction in sipadan dive sites mainly around 20m max, my fren ow enjoyed as much as me

My main advise make sure ur comfortable n tiptop in bouyancy, thats the most important
