 Wilmar GBS Sdn Bhd or Altera, Benefits & working environment

The company by its' name Wilmar GBS is a SSC for Wilmar Int. owned by Kuok Khoon Hong specializes on sugar and oil refinery is set up for quite some time in Penang's One Precinct.

Anyone from the inside can share out the rewarding scheme and benefits of the company?

Is the working environment okay compared to those of the other giant OEMs in Penang e.g. Motorola, Agilent, Altera, etc......

Wilmar GBS is the shared service center alike IBM located at Bandar Utama.

Concept is similar. Benefit wise not sure.

well... wilmar is well respected especially in indonesia and singapore..

no it is not owned but khoon hong... he has a share only.. big owners are adm, old kuok, khoon hong, martua... maybe peter lim still

the thing is, in the shared services / cost centre entity environment can be very diff from their trading / corp head office...

msia labour cost is worht the $$$, highly skilled jobs are costing even more in indo and their productivity there is very low..

Decided to opt for Altera as no idea on Penang Wilmar GBS.
Plus the frequency of hiring non-stop in a year is a question.
Whether it is employee turnover high/ expanding it's business is an unknown question.
Guess choosing a position in a group(altera) is better than choosing one in a SSC (wilmar)?

SSC main purpose is to save costs I guess? Correct me if I'm wrong.

Penang Wilmar GBS just set up one yr and turnover rate quite high is due to poor management sad.gif , they lack of management skill but doing management job. There are no OT claim as processors need to stay late until 10pm or 11pm around one week when month end closing. If the closing period fall on weekend, processors have to go back and support and there are only RM20 per day as allowance.

For the increment and bonus, if not really due to your performance but judge by your 'relationship' with those management staff. Company will fully utilize you rclxub.gif and put few roles on one person.

For my opinion, you can look for better opportunity.

First of all, mgmt no authority.
Secondly, thoroughly no benefits.... no TOLL CLAIM, no exam leave, can conclude no benefits at all.
Leads can't even speak decent English....
U won't know what u are supposed or what u are doing....
The most ridiculous is they ask u to pay ur own short notice to commence to a job where u only sit at ur place and wonder.... why asking me commence early when there's nothing in plan.... speecless....

I believe Wilmar Group is such a big company and it's won't be that bad as stated above.

As I know there is OT claim for replacement leave if work during peak. As compare to others, Wilmar provided 16% of epf and also certain amount of allowance and also those basic benefits. I think the bonus is fair if based on personal performance and there is few levels of escalation on the agreed performance.

I think is good if we can joining the company as pioneer. I believe the company is still in a growing stage to provide the global services in Finance and Accounting as there are few transition projects is running. Everyone has chance to participate in the transition projects based on personal ability and also capacity.

I believe if you are interesting to join the company, nothing can effected your decision based on those comments.It is depends on how you judge and analyze this in professional way.I hope this can help you.

I would say the some of benefits is not attractive as a MNC company
- No dental/optical claim
- No parking provided nor allowance
- No OT allowance

Besides that, the working culture is toxic:
- Superior expects the subordinate work overtime (Superior will push their task to the subordinate)
- No proper training/on boarding procedure
- Micromanage
- Manager used inappropriate word to scold the junior in front of the team
- Manager likes to play childish politic (boycott and etc)
