Hello, I'm the happy owner of a legacy 2013 RX-17 (Build on the Clevo P370EM).

I would just like to know what upgrades are currently available for the laptop. Is the laptop eligible to be upgraded from the 6xxM series cards to the 970M or 980M? I would also like to know if there are any CPU upgrades for the laptop.

looking forward for GPU refreshes, like the rumoured ultra beast 990M (supposedly 990M is almost equivalent to a Titan X)

It's not rumored lol.

It's a full desktop 980 that can be mounted into a laptop. They are calling it a GeForce GTX 980 with no M. smile.gif

Clevo models with Skylake + the new 980 will be coming out in November afaik. Will be nice to see when Illegear can start offering them.

I have compared the benchmark with GTX970M SLI vs GTX980, the result is just a few frame difference between this 2 setup, so I just went ahead and get the GTX970M SLI instead of waiting for GTX980 refresh. No worth the waiting.

Beside, i can just upgrade my to GTX980M SLI in future. This beat the GTX980 anytime.

The 980 is nice because currently the skylake desktop CPU models are all single GPU. That being said, the 980M in sli still beats a single GTX 980 in both performance and cost.

They are probably going to offer the GTX 980 in sli form at some stage though, but the price is going to be pretty crazy.

Personally I'm aiming for a single GPU desktop CPU laptop as my next big buy. The lack of sli support for some of the games I've been playing has been annoying me.

Agreed, but the heat will shorten the life span of other component tremendously.

According to people like Prema and the other people who have been testing the new GTX 980 Clevo models, the cooling system for the new models is 2-3 times more effective than the current generations cooling.

Should be interesting to see how it goes when they are released. One of the selling points of the 980 is it's ability to OC well, so I don't think Clevo would release any flagship models that couldn't take the heat. smile.gif

If the cooling system allows it, one day I hope to see an AMD Fury nano in a laptop. Maybe next year. laugh.gif

the one you're talking about is different, I think.

Initially the reports that came out, a single 990M > 980M on SLI, and even comparable to Titan X.
980 desktop vs 980M is around 30%, in a sense that 980M = 970 desktop with BIGGER memory (if you're looking at the 8GB cards lah)
the desktop 980 to 980 mobile conversion is newer than the 990M leaked announcement.

At this point I'm very doubtful about the 990M's existence. The old rumors are more likely to be referring to the current laptop 980 release.

I'm not ruling out one last mobile flagship GPU before pascal, it just seems unlikely.

A laptop 980 TI would be pretty cool though. ohmy.gif

Hey Prince J, will Illegear be collaborating with Prema for modded bios/vbios on the D9X?
