QUOTE(katavatar @ Sep 30 2015, 10:09 AM) It's not rumored lol. I have compared the benchmark with GTX970M SLI vs GTX980, the result is just a few frame difference between this 2 setup, so I just went ahead and get the GTX970M SLI instead of waiting for GTX980 refresh. No worth the waiting. It's a full desktop 980 that can be mounted into a laptop. They are calling it a GeForce GTX 980 with no M. Clevo models with Skylake + the new 980 will be coming out in November afaik. Will be nice to see when Illegear can start offering them. Beside, i can just upgrade my to GTX980M SLI in future. This beat the GTX980 anytime. |

QUOTE(katavatar @ Sep 30 2015, 10:37 AM) The 980 is nice because currently the skylake desktop CPU models are all single GPU. That being said, the 980M in sli still beats a single GTX 980 in both performance and cost. Agreed, but the heat will shorten the life span of other component tremendously. They are probably going to offer the GTX 980 in sli form at some stage though, but the price is going to be pretty crazy. |

Just received my RX-17 EVO@GTX970M SLI with 32GB RAM in a nicely packed package. Will post out my impression later. Overall, the machine look solid and nice.

QUOTE(hyperyouth_firepower @ Oct 6 2015, 12:14 PM) Welcome to the club! You won't be disappointed! My RX-17 have no this issue as all my hdd can be recognize instantly without any problem once plugged in. However, BTW, Prince_J, can I ask for assistance? None of my USB3.0 and E-SATA ports have enough 'power' to run a HDD. For some odd reason, My RS-15's USB port cannot generate enough power it seems. Can I ask for assistance? As I recall the RS-15 has 1 powered USB 3.0 port, but it doesn't seem to be enough to power up a portable HDD for some reason. Any ideas that I can do? (Without sending it back of course LOL) (I've tried plugging it individually to all ports, it doesn't work). Plugging to another laptop (non Illegear) works for some odd reason. *edit: after some googling I'm very afraid if my laptops' USB power control circuit has fried. RIght now on another laptop I can power a USB external HDD and access contents with only 1 USB port, but on the RS-15 even using two, it disconnects and reconnects at random. *add on 2: tried another HDD. No dice. Power at max settings. Now i'm wondering what's going on. *add 3: i use full power (battery options) while plugged in. No changes. Even charging a handphone on the "powered" usb is taking very long (i'm testing this since noon) I do have this issue with my 4yrs+Alienware M17xR4. One of my old 1T hdd sometime cannot be recognize and have to try a few times than only it can be read normally. The other new 1T and 2T hdd perform normally though, however i use the new cable supply by the new hdd. So, I guess it could be multiple factor lead to this problem. Old usb cable + USB port wear and tear due to prolong usage can lead to hdd hard to recognize issue. If you happens to find out the root course, do share with me. QUOTE(hyperyouth_firepower @ Oct 8 2015, 01:46 PM) Actually for my SSD its only for OS, except for GTA 5 and WoW which is in the same C (SSD). No issues despite heavy gaming (and lengthy gaming sessions too). Wow, you really formated you SSD? This might kill it prematurely. So I've formatted the SSD, clean install. I'll try to install drivers (but I've no idea where to look for it), and I'm not willing to use windows 10 unless the drivers are there from Clevo (if any exists). |

That is why I move all the temporary files and pagefile to RAMDrive. This will reduce the SSD wear and tear almost to non.

QUOTE(hyperyouth_firepower @ Oct 8 2015, 07:05 PM) When I "refreshed" my Windows, it seems that certain settings were kept, such as my documents, etc, all on D instead of my C. I use Dataram Ramdrive to create the Ramdrive(http://memory.dataram.com/products-and-services/software/ramdisk)For some reason some programs just refuse to install into other drives claiming must C only (like Intel stuffs) Is there a proper guide to this? I have 32GB of RAM, so i would definitely love this. I have an inkling of an idea what you're saying, because i've tried some guides on "lessening" read write stuffs on the SSD, but I'm just buzzed out why the temperature is so damn high. It is actually a very simple process just key in how much RAM you want to allocate to the drive and you are good to go. The good part for Dataram solution is it can even create an image for the ramdrive you used before shutting down windows. I don't need that feature so I disable it instead. Last time, the free edition used to be able to support up to 4GB. Now they reduce it to only 1GB. But hey, it is very cheap so i bought the license which enable me to create up to 32GB Ramdrive. After installing and starting the Ramdrive, go to windows advanced setting and set the page file to it. You can watch your system fly then. |

QUOTE(Prince J @ Oct 10 2015, 11:02 AM) Another question is why my RAM speed are quoted running at 800Mhz with ? Aren't they supposed to run at 1600Mhz?3Dmark listed my RAM module as Crucial Technology DDR3 @ 800 MHz which is differ from the one listed in the site ( Crucial Technology DDR3L @ 1600 MHz) |

QUOTE(zonan4 @ Oct 12 2015, 08:38 AM) The memory is running at 800Mhz, but it sends data twice per clock, 800Mhzx2=1600Mhz. I am aware of this hence the DDR (double data rate). However, what is the different between DDR3 and DDR3L.Some programs report the base speed, and some the effective rate, that's why BIOS says 800 and CPU-Z says 1600. It won't get damaged, that's just how DDR memory works. By the way, I am happy with my RX-17 EVO purchase. Tested is last few day with all the high end game such as Crysis3, Dragon Age Inquisition, MGSV Phantom Pain, The Witcher 3, AC Black Gate and etc. everything on super high or ultra which ever available. This machine don't even hesitate to run buttery smooth @1080p(this my native gaming resolution). In fact, I think twin GTX970M is overkill for all the title available on the market now. MGSV Phantom Pain is especially breathtaking when maxing all the setting. The desert and the horse looks so real. |
