Hi my car less than five year old. Can't start the engine after stopping it and while it's hot. This is the second time it happened. Meant to bring to service centre but always busy on Saturdays. Have you encountered this before? Even if it's not the same brand car? What could possibly be the cause?

This is a very common problem for Honda City 2009 onwards. The first few batches of City had their starter motor replaced with Denso & Honda added a few thicker grounding cables to the engine bay. What I heard now is that All Honda SC is instructed to use only Panasonic car batteries as previously they are using Century batteries.. The reason is because Panasonic batteries has higher CCA (Cold Crank Amp) which can make the car start easier.

I had my starter motor replaced for free, added thicker grounding cables for free and recently replaced the car battery to Panasonic as the old one is about 2 years plus...

Never encountered the starting issue when engine is hot ever again.

My ex iswara used to have the same problem on the tenth years, sometimes difficult to starts especially after a long drive or very heavy jam during hot afternoon, engine can restart upon cooling down for half an hour, battery, alternator, cable, plug all ok, according to the mechanic starter relay is aging, he add in another relay, problem solved, he said common problem with iswara & wira.

Can says same to your City though, but can ask mechanic to check the starter.

The best solution is install voltage stablelizer. Then you no issue on can't start engine anymore.

Bro.. Please don't simply recommenf solution. Installing a voltage stabilizer will not solve the issue. I had one installed and the problem still persist.

In my Renault I had the problem that the battery was dead until the engine area cooled down. Replacing the battery fixed it. Can swap battery to test?

Four year only need to replace battery?
Thing is that it happens not very often. So far only incur twice and I notice its when traffic is jammed and car engine is hot that it happens. If car is moving far and engine is hot, I think it's okay. No problem.

Mh. My Citroen I had to change after something like 5 or 6 years, though that was in Europe. In Malaysia I think 1-2 years is more common, if yours is 4 years old... thumbup.gif

You could try to start the engine after you parked. Every time. Try to see a pattern, when does it fail, when doesn't it? I could imagine according your description that it fails when the engine bay gets really hot (i.e. not much cooling due to wind...), when it is merely running at the standard operating temperature it's still ok.

In any case, it seems like some old batteries can fail due to heat, and work again when it's cold enough.

I only drive my car during the weekends. In short it's not much being used. Wonder if it's the case car battery not well charged.

hi all!
I went to service centre last Monday. coincidentally very jammed. chap had difficulty in starting the engine and claimed that battery needs replacements. I think battery health showing 54%, charging 74%. so not the case it's not used or charged enough.
replace with Panasonic for 211 including labour cost. no trade in old battery. so brought back old battery to resell. how's price compared outside?
