Any senior who transferred over to Australia and gotten offer for a bursary of 10k / scholarship? I went to this transfer talk today and I was briefly mentioned about the bursary. Apparently, Monash try to give back to student when they have extra money.

Anyone aware of this? I couldn't find any info regarding this but I was told to look into monash website which still landed me nothing.
*
my friend was on full scholarship when he was in monash msia (first 2 years)... for his 3rd year he transferred and lost it, but eventually he got it back full for 3rd and 4th year... if that's what you're asking..

agreed or at least at monash msia... drop out rate is high too cause a lot of ppl underestimated it

I have interest in computer related field as well as problem solving. But Engineering will most likely be the main goal as the job scope will be wider after graduation.

hmm... lots of time one tends to think that a particular field base on current knowledge is what he/she wants to do... only after going through college then only one will realise it is not true... choose your course well or your will regret later

Well in 2012 there was a unit called FIT1002 (unit/subject code, FIT means Faculty of IT, 1 means 1st year) Computer Programming 1. You learned programming basics and foundation using Java language. Then in 2nd sem you learn FIT1008 Introduction to Computer Science which continues using Java. Basically you use Java until your FYP (Final year project) where you can choose whatever you want. Along the way different units might have different languages but everyone has the learn Java.

Then in 2013 they aka Monash changed the structure so you learn FIT1040 Programming Fundamentals because apparently failure rate was high. Learn the same concepts but using a language called Scribble (please google, you will be amused  rolleyes.gif) then in 2nd sem you learn FIT1008 Computer Science using Python (another language, easier to learn than Java some say) and in 2nd year 2nd sem you do Advanced Programming in Java (can't remember unit code but it focuses on Android programming which is native Java).

So yeah, learn more things but your understanding might not be as strong and I hear people still find it hard. I also hear that the structure changed again but not sure about that. Monash Handbook will have the latest units and things for you.

I'll try and PM you the FIT1002 things but not sure if can do through PM  smile.gif .

QUOTE(secondrate @ Mar 29 2015, 10:08 AM)
Just an assumption but it was a radical change. Maybe they felt that it was too difficult to learn Java while learning programming fundamentals?
*
QUOTE(secondrate @ Mar 29 2015, 10:19 AM)
No difference, you learn same core things, same lecture notes, you get to watch their recorded lectures. The difference is they have more electives there (actually Malaysia has some electives that Australia doesn't have) and they can choose majors and minors. If you head there for 2nd year then you might be able to squeeze a major minor in. I went in 3rd year and managed to do 75% or so of a software development major but I didn't have the 1st year units it needed to qualify.

180k year should be fine, I think I used less but depends what's your lifestyle. I mostly cooked my own food so I didn't spend much on food smile.gif stay in a house with other people to save cost as well. Share room and bathroom even better.

All my friends grad from Malaysia and me from Australia didn't have problems. We found good jobs with average-above average industry pay quite fast and easily but we started looking before final exams. I think your degree and a good resume will get you interviews but in the end you need to ace that interview. Helps to practice, read common questions and prepare answers, etc. For me I put my FYP on a website so I show my interviewers using a laptop or phone.

One thing I'm not sure about... when I grad in Australia I got a separate envelope of documents from aus government (their ministry of education). Basically says this graduate did a course according to Australian standards blablabla. Haven't found a use for it but it seems Malaysian grads don't get that? Maybe some other alumni can confirm.

Hello guys,

What is the difference between the Bachelors of Commerce and Bachelors of Business and Commerce at Monash.

Why is the entry requirement 12 compared to 7 ( Which is significantly different)

And i understand that Bachelors of Commerce will be last for this years july intake.

Can someone give me a clear understanding of the difference and which is better. Both gives the exemptions of 9 paper for ACCA.

Thank you for your time.

Sir John Monash statue unveiled

user posted image

Founded in 1958, Melbourne’s Monash University has unveiled a life-sized statue of the man after whom it was named…Sir John Monash.

The statue portrays the distinguished general Sir John Monash in civilian clothing and was created by prominent Australian sculptor John Corlett. It stands at the University’s main campus in Clayton.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Margaret Gardner said: “Sir John remains an important force at Monash. He lived his life in the service of his community and the example he set is at the heart of our mission.

Through this statue, students and visitors to the University will appreciate that it was named after a man who had an enormous impact on Australian life.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the group who drove this project – our Monash Pioneers. Led by Chair, Mr Michael Headberry, the group has made a commitment to enhancing the campus experience for current Monash students. It is wonderful that our graduates continue to be so deeply engaged with the University.”
Among members of the community attending the unveiling were Lady Anna Cowen, Jack Smorgon, Steven Skala and George Golvan.

more about the great man;

Kings is not available for my course. They don't offer Business modules for the exchange program.

NUS had a note saying that business modules are oftenly over-subscribed, therefore I don't think an exchange will be possible (still need to someone who is willing to exchange from there to Monash before I can be exchanged to NUS).

NTU, not much info given by them, they don't even have a page for prospective inbound students.

The reason I aimed on the Warwick exchange is due to the special relationship between them and Monash. Albeit better results needed to qualify for the exchange but there is no quota set, and without the need to wait for someone to come to Monash from there.
*
ahh.. i get it now... well, warwicks fine.. but if NTU is open, i would jump at the opportunity

btw, you're from business school right?

If im taking single major, 3 years. Double, 4 years. Both route includes exchange.

Theoratically its possible, since when you do exchanges you can get your credits recognised, provided you are good enough to mix and match around.
*
4 years course might allow you to exchange 2 times... if 3 years definitely only 1 time only

btw, when u r in let me know.. will add you to the first page ^^

Justify the statements below, if both are false, means I'm probably the stupidest person alive doh.gif :

1) To practice accounting in Malaysia as a chartered accountant, legally under whatever laws and regulations, one must be a MIA member.

2) If 1 is true, only certain 4 year accounting degrees and professional qualifications such as ACCA, CIMA, ICAEW, CPA and etc will be eligible for a MIA membership.
*
1. yes, but only for certain accounting roles and the execution of specific responsibilities... aka signing off corp accts... etc... but there're others which are not covered, etc project accounting...

2. i guess should be true...

i would like to ask is it hard to maintain average 75% or above for engineering course, which is the requirement to continue receiving monash high achiever award?
do most students manage to maintain throughout the studies or lose it?
and also, any of you working part time while studying??
*
usually only top 10% will receive it... it is easier to maintain after getting scholarship upon entry than to apply by merit after enrolling

ya,so i mean is it hard to maintain an average of 75% or above for the following years after i've qualified for the entrance scholarship, especially for engineering students??
And, thank you very much for the reply  biggrin.gif
*
should be ok if u can even be considered for entrance...

usually only 5% qualify for merit in course... but if maintaining usually 15% will get that results... based on exp for class of 30+ students

no i mean if your results is among the top 15% then you would be able to maintain the scholarship... eg class of 30, 3-5 will be able to meet that requirements

top 15% percentile, not percentage...

just an indicator... it varies by module/subject...
