I ever heard/read about this interesting quotation:

"expensive body + cheap lens = shame,
cheap body + expensive lens = sexy"
hahaha...

in my opinion:
1. see your budget (better invest in lens than body, buy body only + prime lenses or fast zoom lens, you will rarely use kit lens after get that lenses IMHO )
2. see your simplicity preferences (sony, canon, nikon have pocket camera with image quality same with their dslr and also interchangeable lenses)
3. photography is not about tools, it is about creativity. But good tools help realize your creativity
