Some tips on Photography.

Certain Images Are Copyrighted (by an online sales service i use to sell my pictures)

All credits go to the respective owners or publishers

This is more geared toward the camera on the 920 but may apply for normal usage or other phones too.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Sun Tzu, The Art of War

In context we need to know our phone and its capabilities, now that’s half the battle.

About the 920 ‘s camera :

1. It’s a 8.7 mp cam with Carl Zeiss Lens plus OIS (optical image stabilization) source : Microsoft's official 920 site
and
Nokia Lumia 920 Camera
*Megapixels alone is not everything, it must come hand in hand with the lens and processing software.
2. The lens is F2 (meaning that our phone is capable of near and medium shots but not distant shots.)
3. Low light capabilities allow us to shoot in low light conditions ( and thus does better in low light but I think lacks some colors and contrast in day time shots (don't worry, we can always use apps like Fhotoroom or a filter to make it better) P.s : Even the 930 and 1520 are not very good with low light from what I've seen.

Included are some tips that i have gathered from around the internet,
some are in pdf format because I wanted to read it offline instead of loading the page every time. The links within the pdf still work AFAIK (as far as i know).

Here is a well written article on using the 920's camera

and another haha

If you need more just google or do a YouTube search. I'm sure there are a few out there.

Use a tripod.
It helps with stabilization for macro shots , blur-less pictures and long exposure shots (google to see some examples of long exposure)
I'm yet to experiment with this and would be trilled if someone can fill this in.
I did however try without a tripod. Do refer to the included picture (its called light trails) but its not a very good shot since its kinda blurry.

Attached Image

(Update) Tried a few with a cheap tripod and here are the results.

Attached Image (Shot with Lumia Camera , the one with Manual settings)

Caught #Flash (the superhero) and his relatives around Kuala Lumpur. Too fast for the naked eye ~

Used 4 seconds long exposure to get this.
Not entirely satisfied though, will try again when there are more cars. I personally like the blue tinge on the right (i like to to think it as Flash's cousins)

Also discovered the local red light district (where the hanky panky is negotiated and later takes place)

Remember, the focus is vehicle lights, not the sky or other things in general.

Here are a few examples when too much light gets into the picture, making it look bad.

This guy uses a 920 as his camera and i think his shots are great.

Bottom line, I think the quote by [b]Adam Ansel
(pro photographer) "A good photograph is knowing where to stand"
serves as the golden rule. One more shot to prove it. Attached Image I took a few shots but didn't give me a satisfying look of KLCC so i went around and shot it again, probably my 3rd shot and got this, Because one doesn't always get a shot of KLCC and the moon right? biggrin.gif (Used HDR inverse filter)

Something we, the newer gen don't get to see much
Attached Image (Filtered with Time filter)

Go out and experiment, try something new or do some research. All the best guys.

Hope this can help you guys out. Do feel free to give me feedback or correct me if there are any mistakes here.

u sir, just made me feel in love again with my L920. Was thinking to get a new L930 few months back, but i think i made the right decision. smile.gif
*

[/quote]

I think the term sir doesnt apply to me haha, and Im perhaps a little too young for that but thank you anyways.

While Im not saying the 930 & 1520 is bad, ill stick with my 920 for the moment,(Money no enuf ma sweat.gif ) the Destruction of the 920 by phonebuff shows how solid it is (with the exception of some not so solid units of course). In the end its up to you, honestly ill hold on until the next phone with Windows 10 is launched.

I already have the yellow tinge of death and USB don't work anymore..
but still using my 920.. hahaha..
*
QUOTE(m0r31d8ng3l @ Jun 17 2015, 09:51 AM)
no.. i think the usb controller in the phone is dead.. I worked in a electronics company before this and got someone from the USB group to help check if anything was wrong. there was no signal coming from the usb line.. only the power line was working.
*
Ah, so youre using a wireless charger then? The yellow screen can be referred to as screen burn it too i think and is usually a result of overheating and long active screen periods or due to old age. How bad is it? whole screen?

As for your usb thingy, did you try using an old tooth brush to brush it? some times stuff can build up in there.

I'm using the normal mini usb charger. the contact points are clean. just no device detected if I plug in to any other usb capable device. charges ok though.
*

Oh that's weird. I hope you keep your auto back up on (just in case the internal memory fails)

QUOTE(m0r31d8ng3l @ Jun 18 2015, 07:55 AM)
many soft resets.. hey I've even checked with nokia (still nokia at the time and they didn't know how to fix except change new board and just out of warranty meaning is $$$).
happened after a year of owning this phone. the yellow tinge slowly but the usb was I discovered while transferring something. it took forever. didn't think much of it then but after afew days I realised it was like the pc didn't detect my phone. tried on many pc. even passed to my colleague like I mentioned. since he was using L1020.

I personally think the Malaysian Nokia Care center kinda sucks. From experience at least.

hey, I'm not complaining. I'm just stating that even with all this happening to the phone I'm still using it. really like the phone and as long as I can still use for communication and photo taking, I'm still going to stick to this. fixing is kinda no point as it cost almost the same as a new one.
*
Indeed, the Motherboard is expensive and you'll have to wait for parts to arrive even if you send in for repairs.

QUOTE(m0r31d8ng3l @ Jun 18 2015, 09:30 AM)
ooh.. thats a good idea.. can buy toolkit from online? I mean to open up the phone and all.
but this is my only phone.. a bit worried too.
yea.. although I'm tempted to switch to L830/930 or iphone 6plus. but none of them fully has what this phone have.
only L1020 does, and that phone bulky on 1 side kinda weird..
*
QUOTE(rogrog @ Jun 18 2015, 09:38 AM)
You need a special screwdriver to open. And a ply tool for phone

Very easy to open the phone  thumbup.gif

Unscrew 2 screw, pry it.  thumbup.gif  thumbup.gif

Here is a complete video to help you, pay attention to some warnings or rewatch the specific part when in doubt. Ive opened my before and getting the case off can be a tiny bit hard.

920 disassembly and reassembly.

I suggest downloading the video (easier to watch and fast forward / rewatch a part)

i did plan to go for L1020 due to camera ..but seems like no upgrade in term of processor sad.gif
*
I think the 1020 takes some time to snap shots (just an opinion since i didn't test it side by side)

Before this I've lost my front facing camera function, then the sensors are not working, then the rear camera sometimes not working properly as I need to reboot the phone and hope that it solve the problem and now new problem is the phone is not vibrating anymore.

I really love this phone so much that it is difficult to replace it with any new phone at the moment.

Does anyone know how to fix any of those problem above? Please dun suggest to factory reset cause I do believe it doesnt solve anything and just causing me to lose my data hehe...

Btw, belanja some gambar. (This is the reason it is difficult to change to new phone)

Try using a blower (not hair dryer please cry.gif ) to blow the speaker area, Should remove dust.
Example of blower

After that use a torch light (use the bright florescent (white) kind and aim on the light sensor (see if brightness increases and later decreases after you stop shining) if yes then its working (brightness has to be set to auto). As for your rear cam (sorry, i still strongly suggest using the Lumia Software recovery tool or windows phone recovery tool to flash it) In the past some things only worked after 3 times of flashing. (after flashing see if things are working, if not reflash. (ultimately, if that doesnt work, im afraid its hardware or bad motherboard or something wrong inside. By sensors do you mean gyroscope? for gps or?
Vibration motor probably gone or bad mobo liow.

By the way was the picture compressed or something? Seems a little blur to me.

see this advertisement macam gooding:
http://www.mudah.my/Nokia+Lumia+920+32GB+M...sh-36406418.htm

but is it better to get other low end model rather than second hand model in the advertisement?
*
Disclaimer : I do not wish to be held responsible for my opinions or suggestions.

In my opinion, it is risky to get a 2nd hand unit but if youre willing to take the risks then go ahead (perhaps get them to sign a document, safer, also keep all conversations for future reference if anything goes wrong).

Ultimately, its up to you bro.

920 vs 930 which better.tbh never thought this thread live n kicking ,,salute la u guys
*
To answer that question, it depends on what youre looking for in a phone. If you have the budget then go ahead (ultimately you make the choice mah)

Here are a few things :

The 930 is newer.

Here are a few improvements with the latest Denim update.
-Rich capture
-Faster camera performance
-20mp(930) vs 8.7mp (920)

http://www.windowscentral.com/what-new-lum...-att-lumia-1520 (after Denim)

http://wmpoweruser.com/nokia-lumia-930-re-...m-update-video/ (930 after the buzz)

http://www.windowscentral.com/microsoft-cl...pdate-name-only (920 doesnt really benefit)

Cons of 930
-No Glance screen
-Battery life is almost the same
-Its old jor, WP 10 will launch in a few more months. (but hey its still a Nokia ~)
-Not the best low light performance (see 930 vs 920 low light vids on YouTube to get me)

Newer phones "Cityman" and "Talkman" will be launched too, meaning newer specs, lowering prices of older
phones like the x20 series and even the x30 series.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bOOas3mcOUU (920 after the buzz)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I4JpH3YFeIg (930 vs 920) (speed comparison)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-wbrU8S4P9M
-Iphone 6 and HTC M8 (i think) vs Nokia Lumia 930 (with Denim update) ( Camera Battle)

QUOTE(sam.hajime @ Jun 30 2015, 09:12 AM)
actually how to check warranty status?i kinda want to bought l930..but the warranty under thunder match..is it orginal?

its rather expensive given that the 920 is old and cases like that should have lower demand.
However thank you for sharing ><

Yup, Manual focus gives better images. Use the Lumia Cam. Need steady hands though or a tripod/mini tripod.

Thats hardware issue. Not software. I had two spots previously, the top and near camera module (towards the center), MS had to change the Mobo and replace screen. Mobo because maybe something wrong with processor causing it to overheat. Screen because damage was already done. Got my repairs FOC but the NCC here wasnt the best experience i had.

Also known as screen burn in.

try a clean update, meaning using software to reupdate the phone once more, I've had the same problem as your's too last time when i update through phone itself... Its really F-king annoying..

one thing 1st, remember to copy out all your precious data before performing the clean update, It gon rub away all your current data

Hope you can solve it smile.gif
*
Yeah, really hate it if the OTA update isnt clean.

Well after backing up and having war with my PC and the Lumia Recovery tool (driver missing ect, fixed with windows update). Its finally downloading and will flash in a bit. Hope it will be fine then.

Then again im glad that Lumias are rather easy, compared to having to root la, download drivers, more software, Rom and a long procedure. Helped a friend with her 1+1. Phew~

Finally thank you ><

Update

Tried Lumia and Windows recovery tool. The files on server are outdated. Downloaded firmware, wont install after restarts, reinstalling. Give up. Did a hard reset and hope nothing goes wrong. MS must be too busy with W10 to update the files

Update tried a different computer and cable, worked after that, dont know if cable problem or pc issue on the previous computer.
