I know saying this will hurt myself (making the queue longer), but I still wanna say this:
ArcheAge is much more group-orientated than your common themepark MMO.
It's almost like UO/Shadowbane/DAoC...it's impossible to "truly play" this game or even get far, unless you group-up and interact with other.
In such a game, the community you interact/group with, directly affects your in-game well-doing and experience.
Another few weeks down the road, the queue will surely disappear. Players who come playing ArcheAge without the correct attitude/expectation, some will adapt, but majority will just leave...
I can even say that, ArcheAge is designed to be P2P only, the F2P is just a "trial-in-disguise". Land is not a requirement to enjoy the game, but it will enhance your enjoyment immensely. The real problem is at the Labor Point system.
See, land is not required INDIVIDUALLY to enjoy the game, because even if you can't grab a land for yourself, you still can visit/use/share properties with your guild/"family". It's part of the game design, you can configure land/farm permissions.
But without Patron status, not only you don't get queue priority, you will be very short on Labor Point, which harshly prevents you from contributing/co-operating in your community activity, such as ship-building/house-building/crafting/etc. FYI, even when you died and revived, it will cost labor point to reclaim lost EXP! Labor Point is needed for all major operations in game, I don't see how F2P players can get away with it.
So...feel free to try out this game by playing F2P, learn the ropes, get a feel...but you will understand quite fast, that what I say is true

Although I started my character at the wrong side (I chose West, but I'll start a character at the east soon), I am still pretty sure that, even with the long-queue, Kyrios is the right choice in the long-run, due to the proximity of population to us. Because population across all servers will surely drop and stabilize...the queue will either be gone, or become negligible, or solved by developers in the long run (by adding more server, increase max player cap, or whatever). So, you better join a server which has many players of close-proximity in geography or culture in the beginning, otherwise few months down the road there would be too few left for you to enjoy this game with

If nothing else, just ask yourself this:
Would you prefer a server where many who play with you have approximately the same lag?
Or prefer to play in a server where everyone else is <100ms, but you alone has >200ms?
