The SI120 just hangs above the heatpipes. I reckon the fins coming right off the CPU block is gonna help dissipate a lot of the heat too. HR-01 is more of the Silent Gang HSF I think. N the Scythe just plain looks ugly to me. I wanted sumthin that looked sexayyyyyy. This post has been edited by ianho: Jul 20 2006, 07:08 AM |

Sum updates.
Released King Kong from the cage at last. Hehehe. Took the case out, studied the case for a while coz it's quite different from normal cases. The fan mountings, HDD cage, Plus Kit all need to be studied b4 doing anything. 1st thing I did was to change out the fans. Here's a pic of the new rear LED fan installed. ![]() N now the front fan's turn to be changed out. C how it's mounted? It's got a fan cage plate, filter n all that. Also take note of the manual I haf under the case. Haha. I actually used a manual for once. ![]() That's all for today folks. Been a loooong day. Gonna sleep now n hopefully haf sum spare time to update sumore 2moro. |

That's the beauty of this case. A lot of fantastic touches, it's almost like a pre modded case. Don't need to do any mods for ventilation, HDD mountings n so on. All I need to mod is the looks. If u really cant find filters n dont mind a DIY look. U can refer to my Ch3@psk8 worklog. I showed how to do a DIY pantyhose air filter in there as pointed out by zooloo. QUOTE(Mavik @ Jul 20 2006, 10:50 AM) Dude, posting at 4am in the morning? You need some rest man! Ya man. C that clear fan next to the stock fan in the pic? That's going in. It's a lot slower n quieter than the stock Lian Li Adda fans which is already very quiet.Gonna replace the front fans with LED fans as well? QUOTE(zooloo @ Jul 20 2006, 02:48 PM) Wah! U remembered my infamous ghey air filter eh? |

For cooling the proc, I must recommend the CM Aquagate 12cm. Keeps my X2 4600 at a steady 34C and all hot air is expelled out of the back of the case. MUCH better than the XP120 that it replaced.

MUCH better than the XP120 that it replaced. Mac, I already haf a really nice water cooling set up. In fact I was gonna buy a nice new water pump for this project too. Then I thought about my extremely hi mobo temps. I'm using a Asus A8N32SLi which needs lotsa air to cool the heatpipes. N since I just bought 1 of the best air cooling cases around, I've decided to use air cooling on King Kong. Besides, the XP120 is really fantastic, I never expected air cooling to be this good. It's only running 2C more than my water cooling at max load. |

Updates!!!!!!!!!!!!
Finally got sum free time today to write. Anyway, here's sum updates. Installing the PSU. The PSU still needs to be completely sleeved. Last time I didn't sleeve all the wires coz most of it was hidden. Now with this case, the wires r all exposed at the bottom section. Hafta sleeve them all nicely in black later coz LYP now all got no stock of black Vantec sleeves. ![]() Installing the mobo n HDD. ![]() 1st pix of King Kong up n running. C the ugly mobo wires at the top? N also no USB n Firewires at the top most PCI slot. Just wanted to boot up to make sure the XP120 was seated nicely n working well. This is bcoz the XP120 heatpipe is touching the mobo heatpipe. It's a very, very tight fit. It took me about 2 hours to carefully install the XP120 without damaging anything on the mobo, the CPU n everything else around it. Anybody who's installed an XP120 will know what I mean. ![]() Current set up for now. I need it up n running so I can do my daily work on it. So it's a temporary set up. Basically sorted out the wire management for the top compartment. I sleeved all the USB n Firewires at the PCI slot black n installed it right at the top so I can hide the wires. Can't c it now from the side. Also sleeved the CCFLs switch wires black n hid it at the top. I'm gonna rewire the CCFLs later n make external switches at the bottom of the case. Very nice n clean top compartment now. In fact too clean until it looks plain n boring so I added the blue UV IDE cables to gif it sum bling, bling. I've also just bought UV blue wires for the floppy drive, haven't had time to install that yet. Will need to sort out the bottom compartment later, I've already got all my plans for it ready. Just need the time...................... ![]() Close up pic of the XP120 sitting right up on the mobo heatpipes. It's actually touching! No worries, it's a known issue for the XP120 on a Asus A8N32SLi mobo. Thermalright has it listed as a compatible HS but with known issue of the heatpipes slightly touching the mobo pipes. No adverse effects on temps though. MMMMmmmmmmmmmm................. nice sexayyyyyyyyyyy heatpipes. Now my CPU, mobo n graphics cards r all cooled by heatpipes. Hehehehehe. Oh ya, u can also c how I sleeved n hid the USB Firewires at the top in this pic. ![]() Nightshot with UV look. The vertical CCFL tubes behind the IDE cables will b repositioned to the roof of the case later after I sort out the CCFL wiring. Right now the CCFL wires r too short so I just stuck it there for the time being. Once it's hidden at the top, the UV effect shud b a lot brighter. I've actually got UV slot protectors on the PCI n RAM slots but they're not even showing now coz not bright enuf. The only thing glowing nicely is the 120mm fan on the XP120. I'm still looking for a proper UV blue fan for the HSF. The blue UV fan now is using only molex, not connected to the mobo. I need to get a blue UV 120mm fan with speed sensor so I can use the smartfan controls instead of blowing at 12V all the time. Any1 knows where I can get sum blue UV 120mm fans? When I get down to completely sleeving the PSU, I'm also gonna change all the molex, floppy, PCIe n ATX plugs to UV blue too. May also add 2 more tubes of UV CCFL but again, LYP is all out of stock. Damn.................. so many things out of stock n delaying my project. I've also got sum blue CCFLs there for a brighter look when the mood strikes. When I'm done with the lighting there shud b 6 tubes of CCFLs in there! ![]() That's it for now. Lotsa plans n mods comin up just need to get the UV CCFLs n black Vantec sleeves. The UV PSU plugs r on the way, just ordered them. Also need to get sum other cool stuff for it b4 I get down to the mods. |

QUOTE(sorcecold @ Jul 26 2006, 02:03 AM) Well, the price of the casing is not a problem. The problem is most of the time, after ppl pay so much for a case, they're worried about cutting it up with mods. They're worried that they're own plastic surgery may turn out disastrous. |
