Are Propecia and Proscar the same medicine? Can I split Proscar tablets? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Although Propecia and Proscar both contain the same active ingredient called finasteride, they are very different medicines and should not be interchanged. Proscar is a 5-mg tablet used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), which is an enlargement of the prostate gland. Propecia is a 1-mg tablet used to treat male-pattern baldness. Proscar tablets are apple-shaped. We do not recommend splitting a Proscar tablet to get the same dose as a Propecia tablet because it's nearly impossible to cut a tablet into five evenly-sized pieces without having it crumble. If the pieces aren't the same size, you won't know what dose you're taking. http://www.drugstore.com/qxa1346_333181_se...car_tablets.htmso propecia should be the better choice, right?

QUOTE(aLittleMisfit @ Jul 19 2006, 02:35 PM) your gf got fetish with hair.. muahahahah... I've seen a doctor before. He recommend a "proven" product.. but 3 weeks of supply already cost 200-300+... can see result after 6weeks, but must eat for at least 1 year. I'm thinking.. if every 3weeks 1 come out another 300+ for this.. more hair will drop to earn back my money QUOTE(aLittleMisfit @ Aug 30 2006, 12:03 PM) but quite expensive... buy that to cure hairfall...and then drop hair because need to pay for it. how expensive? how about the "proven" product you mentioned before? tried it already?

OMG, do you know how expensive is the propecia? If i not mistaken, it sells in bar and 1 bar RM160~170 for 15 tablets (i forgot how many tablets inside). That was last time about 1 year ago i checked it out.
You must continue eating it or else the problem will come back. Same as the Regain hairspray (forgot the main important ingredient of it), if you stop, it will come back.
For those who got hairfall problem, are you guys a smoker?

OMG, just went and googled the keywords HAIRLOSS & SMOKING.... QUOTE Can smoking affect hair loss?
The answer may be yes. According to a recent study by the Harvard School of Public Health, smoking can increase almost all the major androgenic hormones including DHEA, androstenedione, testosterone, and dihydrotestosterone (DHT), the hormone most closely linked to hair loss.
The study, which examined a cross-section of 1,241 randomly sampled middle-aged U.S. men, compared hormonal levels of nonsmokers and smokers. The study made made sure that weight and age were not a factor in the study results. According to the study, dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) was 18% higher in smokers, dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEAS) was 13% higher in smokers, androstenedione was 33% higher in smokers, testosterone was 9% higher in smokers, and DHT, the hormone most closely linked with hair loss, was 13% higher in smokers. Although the study did not study hair loss specifically, it is commonly accepted that DHT is the main hormone associated with hair loss.
Propecia, the oral pill for hair loss, works by blocking testerone from being converted into DHT. Increasing levels of Testosterone and DHT are known to be associated with an increase in the amount and rate of hair loss. Smoking alone will not make someone not predisposed to lose hair start losing hair, nor will stopping smoking prevent your hair from falling out if you are predisposed to hair loss. However, if this study is correct, it is possible that smoking may increase the rate at which your hair does fall out and possibly the amount. http://www.frontlinemed.co.uk/Smoking.htm
