I'm guessing if we want to play 4k 10bit on a HTPC, we will need a GTX950/960 gpu for hardware decode? Otherwise Nvidia Shield TV will do fine as well? Dilemma on which direction to go for. Currently running Kodi on an Intel NUC and it's slow...Can't handle 4k videos in 10bit not to mention the lack of HDMI 2.0.

Guys what platform are you using to run Kodi on? I was thinking of getting a simple mini PC running windows, wire it to my unifi 30mbps with a LAN cable, and hook it up to my TV via hdmi. Then get one of those wireless remotes with keyboard too for proper "couch potato" experience lol

Mainly I want to stream movies, tv shows, and EPL matches. Occasionally of course I will play local storage content like movies etc.

What do you think about my intended setup, and do you have any mini pc to recommend? Really appreciate any input/tips 

For the htpc alone (not including remote and external hard disk) I budget 1k. Is that okay?

Another question, I'm going to subscribe maxi fibre 10mbps for my new home. Can I know 10mbps able to load android tv box nicely? Or I mean buffering better? Worried 10mbps can't buffer those movie nicely if I buy a TV box. But my lady boss don't let me subscribe unified 30mbps as she said it's expensive. Although for me it's only 30bucks different, but lady is like this. Haiz... All sifus, can comment?

bluray 4k players just getting into the market.

seems 4k movies was just being licensed, coming out now.

of course, the tv needs to be 4k too.

at this time, there are only short 4k videos, some tv series.

i have tried a few short videos - yes, excellent pictures!
1080p comes in many shapes and forms. 8-12gb ones are usually good, some with hd audio.

bdmv are 35-40gb - these are good with hd audio. comes out excellent on a 4k tv.

i expect 4k movies to be 60-100gb to have that extra resolution and perhaps dolby atmos too.

that is state of the art, the best one can get, if you are into it!
warning: just like when one first watched hd 720p and then find sd terrible, once u watched the best stuff on a 4k tv, 720p seems blur, 1080p is just acceptable. pamper your eyes, they "betray" you!
