Hi guys,
I am using XBMC thru my ATV2. I am using cabled LAN connection (Using Homeplug). When i am viewing HD movies the buffer is a little slow though a speedtest using the same cable shows 9.8MBPS (I am using 10MB Maxis Fiber).

Is there any setting on the ATV2 I can change to improve the speed of HD streaming. Please advise.

Crow

Thanks Susa but i am talking about live streaming. The setting to be changed on the ATV2. When i was using wifi i changed the DNS to google DNS and the streaming improved tremendously but not when using LAN cable i do not know wht to do sad.gif

My previous thread should have read improve HD Streaming instead of HD download

Hi Guys,
Been using Kodi on ATV 2 fro a few years now and it has been working fine. However now i understand that Kodi will not be supporting ATV 2 users.

I need to ask if i want to replace my ATV 2 with a new box what would you guys suggest? I am not very tech savy but by using youtube jail break and install Kodi on my ATV 2. So i am looking for a simple box that can link up to my tv (HD 1080 capability) and easy to use and upgrade Kodi. Any suggestions. I also want to use it for Netflix / HBOGO and Hulu. Any feedback will be much appreciated.
Thanks
Suren

All TVs claim to do the same thing and yet some perform better than others. Here's my advice based on experience and readings so far... Stay away from android boxes or sticks of RM200, you'll only be asking for trouble later as they are mostly under-powered. Various Mibox users have reported issues particularly with KODI and so I'd avoid that as well if KODI is important to you. As for Netflix, only few certified android boxes CAN stream at 1080p, most just max out at 480p, this is not a fault of the hardware but from Netflix, which refuses to support unofficial boxes. I could easily recommend a box I use here but your previous comment about not being so tech-savvy & coming from a different ecosystem (ATV), its best if you do the research first and fully understand what can be achieved and not, then make your peace with that. Its much easier than you think.

Hint: Get a box that doesn't just say KODI compatible, but one who's devs and manufacturer actively works with the KODI dev team. Search and read thru the android TV boxes thread here on lowyat, Youtube & blog reviews etc... You'll find user's opinions on boxes and brands.

Thanks for your feedback voncrane. I am looking at spending RM 500 Plus or minus RM100. Can I find out what box you are using? It will help me shorlist and narrow down my investigation. I am an uncle who likes to sit down and watch TV. Netflix/HboGO i watch on my smart TV with help from UnoTelly. I prefer using Netflix/HBOGO to watch older series and also easier to use.

I need Kodi for the newer episodes of programmes i follow. For those who were wondering why i need netflix

You are welcome. I use a Minix Neo X8-H Plus, might be overkill for just 1080p and KODI support, but hey better safe than sorry. Perhaps the Minix Neo Z64 running Windows, if android isn't your thing. Another contender would be the "Wetek Play", mainly because it supports Android and OpenELECH (known to play well with KODI) at the same time, but I've had no hands on experience or physical access to it. With Netflix, using a DNS service and the smart TV app is much better, at least doing so allows for 1080p and 4K content for supported TVs. The closest in terms of UI and support to the ATV 2 that I can think of would be the Amazon Fire TV or Nvidia Shield Android TV. Going to stop here as this isn't the right thread to discuss such.. smile.gif

Thanks Bro now will start some research

I am also ok with HD and HQ. I use DiziLab/Dizigold and there is generally no lag. Ororo is also quite good for HQ.
