which would u recommend for the Boardwalk D8? say if i source a shifter thru taobao, etc.. can a novice like myself change it by referring to guides/instructions.. or do i need to get it done by an "expert" just to be sure?

Hi, you are already getting advice from the expert, Sifu Etigge. No need for 2nd opinion. You only need to get him to agree to perform the 'operation' on your bike for you. tongue.gif

Want to buy a foldable bike - checked out rodalink and they had dahon, tern and lerun. they handed me a tern brochure and the bike's all look the same - but the price seems a bit expensive for dahon and tern.

I did an online research and realised there are even more brands - lerun, trinx, giant, ori, hasa, birdy, java, doppleganger, volcano - how do I pick?!

- The person riding won't be very tall - around 5 feet and a female
- just starting out and wants to ride for recreation and exercise but wants to explore more things
- wants the bike to be portable and to fit in the boot of her myvi
- obviously the most affordable but then it depends - if it rides well, then the person will want to ride more and if it doesn't ride as well, then they will ride it less
- riding on roads and maybe slight terrain
- easy to fold
- light
- portable - may want to take it on travels

How do I pick? What do you suggest?

Hi, if you find Dahon and Tern to be a bit expensive then Brompton will be expensive for you. Brompton look is classic. Like it or hate it. tongue.gif

By the time u manage to save up that much. You will feel abit of waste to get a foldie. Or maybe buy other stuff.. haha
*
No no no. Listen to this old man here. If you need to save money to get what you want means you can't afford it. Else you can afford it if you don't need to save money to buy it. tongue.gif

you must check whether there is a place to hold the brake at the fork.. If there is, then you can install disx brake

normal brake and disc brake diff.. disc brake more grippy IMO
*
To me no difference as I no longer have a powerful 'engine' The feel of stopping is more important to me. tongue.gif
Components not so important. Get the best frame you can afford. Components can always be upgraded. IMO

i have question

for dahon vigor p9 .. what is the basic upgrade most likely the best for the bike? the bike is good for now but feel something is missing? can it be the speed? icon_question.gif  or cosmetic?  flex.gif
*
more like itch! whatever you do to upgrade the bike, it will go off temporary. However it will be back again rclxms.gif

Hi guys

Heard of Volt? I saw it at the bike shop in Damansara Utama. It's quite nice and light. It comes with front and back racks. It's ~RM1550. It's 8 speed. The tires are quick release so it's easy to pack away. See the link http://www.voltbicycle.es/

Do you think this is better than Tern Link C7?
*
For that price, I would go for more reputable brand especially if am looking at foldie. IMHO. tongue.gif
P/s do Volt sell foldie?

IMHO, Sifu Etigge will only consider if the frame is good quality. The rest of the components he can always upgrade it later. tongue.gif

etigge would say, buy the cheaper one and upgrade the groupset!  rclxms.gif

thumbup.gif especially if know how to install the groupset yourself. Definitely the way to go. So much better value. tongue.gif

But your 5 fig foldie dun come with the 'ngek' , 'ngek' sound as you cycle. That's the special sound of a carbon bike. Lol
