Car is a corolla AE101, tire size is 195/50/15. Rim using Enkei RPF1 Replica..

I didn't get the Achilles as it was outta stock so instead he recommended me a pair of Silverstone Kruizers 1. Daily driven, non track usage, no crazy driving. Abit of hi speeding, a little highway occasionally to KL and back to Melaka. Can say 95% town driving with lots of bumps.

I have to say these are some comfortable tires.. They are pretty good. I'm not expecting performance but these are wow for a comfort day to day use. I can't say anything about wet condition though as it hasn't been raining these 2 weeks..

Achilles ATR Sport tires = hard compound tyre = road noise

kinda sucks at rainy day.... skyblas is right, more or less the same as silverstone. i think u should slightly top up a little bit and go for good year instead.

Don't be skimppy on tires! Tires transfer power to the road and provide grip. It can make the difference between you having an acident and avoiding it so buy the best that you can afford, don't buy those cheapo stuff like Silverstone, etc. I'd rather buy used but still in good condition trusted brand of tires than those. If want rather cheap but still good enough quality, at least buy GT Radial.

Get the Michelin PS3 or GY F1-D5 for small diameter UHP tires.

+1 on used branded tyre rather then some off brand tyre
Always afford the best tyre you can buy rather then skimping on it as that is the contact patch between road and car

Second that, my car is running on this tyre earlier, really noisy and bad in wet, uneven wear somemore shakehead.gif . Now change to PS3, super silent if compare to ATR Sport. For 15" tyre, the price diff should be very small, better get GY or Michelin.

YA, I'm using 17" rim....it sucks big time on emergency breaking even on dry condition, and its hard to get this tyre to heat up to its optimum working temperature.

Reputed Brand vs. Budget Clone

Design and tread patterns of clone tyre may look similar to reputed brand.
However, in reality clone tyre perform badly especially in wet braking. Don't put your safety at risk! sweat.gif

ATR Sport is cheap and cheerful. Wet is okay. Dry is superb.
Friend had RM150 for 205/50/15, i had 180 for 195/60/15.
Including balancing.

my advice, dont get cheapskate with tires....Archiles tires is cheapo tire..dont need to get those very very expensive tires if u cannot afford but at least those known brand like yokohama, falken, goodyear, hankook..get the lowest entry series of those brand..

Entry level tires even for branded brand are not really very good as well but it is far more reliable to me...i've heard bad stories on Archiles n Nexun/Neuton(i can't remember)

yea agree....I've seen so much cases of tyre bloating, side wall cracking, and customer complain of noisy, and bad handling during wet weather and most of all, their average mileage for each tyre is about 30K-40K km(for heavy car, normally worn out by 25K km).

only consider these tyre IF the car is rarely use/only use for short distance due to the cheaper tyre price.

for normal/regular usage (milage about 15K km to 25K km per year), there are many cheaper yet reliable tyre brand in the market like DUNLOP, VIKING, SILVERSTONE (definitely not M3 and M5 model), yokohama, goodyear, continental and now even TOYO malaysia (NEO 3). these type of tyre normally can last average 45K km to 60K km.

for heavy user (those who travel more than 5000 km a month), from my observation on salesmen car and highway taxi, MICHELIN XM2 is the most value for money tyre in the long term. cos it can last more than 100K km compare to other brand while the price different with other reputable brand is just around 30% extra.(not forgetting the reliability of tyre).

To me, it always depends on budget and size of the tires as not all the type of tires series covers all sizes

Michelin XM2 can last more than 100K KM? I dunno how true is that but i only believe 5% of that statement honestly and XM2 is the basic entry model of Michelin which is pricey to me..opt for PS3 if there is suitable size for your car. I'm currently using Hankook V12..i would say it could last easily 35K-40K by judging the thread wear n there now

I'm not a spokeperson for Michelin......but most of my customer who use XM2(especially heavy user) only have good say bout this tyre in terms of mileage and handling. and most of them (if not all) have use it to a maximum 100K km while some still manage 80K km.

PS3 is comfortable and good handling...but the mileage is not as good as XM2 while the price is almost the same between these 2 model.

btw, my observation only covers small to medium sedan car (big car usually will clock lower mileage on tyres). smile.gif

i'm not treating Achilles tire like a active timebomb but advisable to get a better tire to me if you can afford. Nowadays ppl are more self cautious with car safety n all...i've seen ppl that wants their car with EPS, 6 airbag, ABS n all sort of safety feature but when comes to tires, they said the cheaper the better cause seldom drive/seldom drive far

Its not wrong to think like that but for me, I think the first safety part of the car is the tires

previously I used XM1 up to 70k km on my previous ride, Myvi. I have another Myvi which is now on XM2, and looking at the rate of threadwear, I think its not unrealistic for it to be similar as well. Not sure about 100k km though, or whether it's actually advisable to do so for safety reasons.

ill share my review (or experience) on achilles atr sport. running on my car rite now for more than 50k km now.. size 205/50/16
not comparing with tyres above RM250/pc :
-grip on dry = 8/10
-grip on wet = 7/10 good up to 30k km used. beyond that, its just good until 120kmh speed.
-comfort = 7/10 good but ensure tyre pressure is "comfort" psi
-cornering = 7/10
-noise = low noise only up to 20k km. beyond tht not so noisy la but noisy.

overall, cant expect much for cheap tyre. u get wat u pay.
would i use the same tyre for my next tyre change? if tight budget, yes.

GT Radial fakap tires. The rubber is nice when i bought the tires like 6 months old from factory. 1 year on it has little cracks on sidewalls. I'm back to silverstones if its cheap tires. Already 3 years old, no cracks and just balding from wear. GT radial really fakap. doh.gif

Really? I've used GT Radial before for for >2yrs and it's fine until I sold the car off. I know some people who had used GT Radial as well and no complaints from them, most even really happy with the value for money. Maybe they gave you defected tires from the factory hence like that. Silverstone though I've used before in a rented car and the grip really sucks! I'd pick GT Radial anytime over Silverstone.

Yes 2 years. Thats all they could do when the cracks are beginning to bother me. They are almost freaking new from factory! I got them because they are 5 bucks cheaper than Silverstone. If they could not hold up to 80km daily drive at legal speeds with cracks showing then... rubbish tires. I got pix of them but do not know where i put in one of my dvd pix collections.

Yeah Silverstone will not have as nice grip as any tire if driven insanely. I'm still in 1 piece 3 years now on silverstone and the same 5 years earlier. No way i'm going to GT radial again.

GT radial.......last time ( about 10 years ago) when they start selling in Malaysia market, their name was Gajah Tunggal.....in term of price, they are cheap....but definitely cannot tahan lama...

so now they shorten the name to GT radial.......nampak macam glamour, but kilang still same same....

if talk bout warranty on tyre, at least Silverstone is easier to claim compare to those cheap cheap tyre cos they have factory and distribution centre locally......at least u wanna fak 9 them also know where to find them and throw them the tyre....lol

Actually, Silverstone not bad la.... i had the Powerblitz 1800 on my Tiara before. No complaints lor. Cheap and gooding. But dont expect that it will work like BS or YKs la of course. In fact the Silverstone was a replacement for the earlier Falken 322s which i found was not too good ( surprising Falken 322 and GT made in indon) so thatz why i now reject those tyres made in indon.
