My previous experiences with AsiaMiles redemption were smooth too, first one took 2 days, the other, 4 days.

I am currently having a horrible time with my third redemption. Requested conversion of a measly 47,700 TP to 10k AM on 6 August and they still haven't put it through. I've placed 6 calls and excuses included a new redemption system for AsiaMiles, system down, etc. Promised dates for conversion were not met, with the latest one saying I have to wait till Thursday, meaning 14 days from the date they took my TP. Kinda reminds me of the 1MDB "probe" happening in Malaysia now.

It is extremely annoying because I am booking a multi-carrier award trip and have found hard to get seats for CX to US/Canada at the dates I want but availability will not be around forever hence my agitation and frustration. I've also locked in dates and availability for my close to 35,000 mile RTW trip x 2 and am just short of 10k Asia Miles before they can entertain my request.

Moral of the story: make sure you allow for delays in Maybank conversion of treatpoints when converting the requisite miles to Krisflyer, Enrich or Asia Miles.

Is that a return ticket or RTW(round the world) ticket? Do you mind to share or PM me please regarding the miles redemption. 35k is a good deal.

Route: KUL-oLHR-oSIN-xHKG-oSFO-xHKG-oSIN-oHKG-HAN//SGN-KUL flying BA,CX,KA,MH business class.

Paying full fare for LHR-LIS//BCN-LHR and SFO-SEA-SFO segments.

The only downside is needed to spend 50k per year to be waived....

as I googled, stopover for international flights should be more than 24 hours and 4 hours for local. All the stop is over a day so no problem for me.

The very comprehensive guide is in this forum thanks for bro tishaban. Check here.

In short you check the flight miles from www.gcmap.com. Seat availability from AM MH BA n sort of.

Long period of call and errors made me blur, I should have booked the PEK-KUL on MH leg as PEK-HKG-KUL CX, believe that would save me a lot on YQ and avoid the miserable MH370 route, tho longer fly time.

With 5 stopovers and 2 transits, does it mean we could go up to 7 places?
kl-hk-lax on cathay means 1 transit(hk) and 1 stopover(lax) right? is there any limit of time how long to transit at hk?
even if i don't get out at hk, is it considered a transit based on 5o2x2//?

is there a similar programme for mas enrich?

Do that note that one world multi-carrier award need at least 2 OW airlines + cathay as third. 5o2x2// is max allowed, anything lesser is alright.

Depends on how u plan, but I have a new plan which travel 4 places in 4 dfferent date, over 40k fly miles.

If only KUL-HKG-LAX via cathay, its under AsiaMiles redemption which can be done directly online, at different table of reward, but this redemption does not allow u to stopover at HKG, only transit.

kul-hkg-lax is just part of the equation. all things considered, i'm still confused about the meaning of 5 stopovers and 2 transits because i plan to visit 7 locations if it's allowed. my preliminary plan is to fly
kul-hkg-lax
lax-lima//
santiago-auckland-sydney//
melbourne-kl
is hkg and auckland consider as transit and am I allowed to leave the airports for both cities for few days?

For my understanding, stopover is 2 separate booking, with at least 24hrs apart between both flights, transit is 1 booking where u not allowed to clear the immigration, ie KUL-HKG-LAX via CX, or SIN-KUL-LHR via MH, thats wat shown in my last redemption.

For your case, if u wish to visit both city, your flight route should look like this.

KUL-oHKG-oLAX-LIM//SCL-oAKL-SYD//MEL-KL, 3o 2//

U can eventually add more place to visit haha

My understanding of the terminology is the following:

stopover = more than 24 hours at one location
layover/transit/transfers = less than 24 hours at one location for an international itinerary
open jaw = stopover where you're changing airports within the same zone
In your case, I would make KL your origin, Lima your destination. Your stopovers can be HKG, LAX, AKL, SYD where you can have more than 24 hours at these locations. Your open jaws are obviously at Lima/Santiago and Sydney/Melbourne but you need to verify that they're in the same zone within Asia Miles. In fact if you can get a LAN flight between Lima and Santiago you don't need to park an open jaw there since you'd still be under the 5 stopover limit.

You can clear immigration on a layover/transit/transfer although you cannot check your luggage out. I've had 18-24 hour layovers in Hong Kong and Vienna.

Again this is my interpretation of your itinerary, you can probably get an experienced phone rep to book this for you but they'd have to be a bit more aware of the rules.

Thank you for the detailed explanations. I'm sure others will find this helpful.

Is it possible to fly KUL-oHKG-oLAX-LIM on different carriers? AFAIK, cathay flight terminates at LAX.

Is there any restriction on the number of stopovers within a continent?

Business must be bad. Used to be 30% for 3 diners and 25% for >3 diners?
